Originally posted by dcsk8er As a store owner, let me say I think you should support your local hobby store and buy your boxes from them. If you dont, how do they expect to stay in business and provide a place for you to play. True, if they are overpricing it that is one thing, but a range of $70-95 is reasonable. I am charging $75 here. I give the players a place to play, dont charge them to use the store (only charge for tournaments, etc when we use product) I know how to play the game and fully support it. It would be a shame if you have a store that does all of this and you go to some basement seller trying to just turn over product. If you dont have a place like this thats one thing, but if you do and dont support it, they wont be around long. I'll get off my soap box now.
We already had this debate a while back. :)
As the manager of a LGS, I agree with you. I don't look down on buying online here and there, but those "i'll only do it this time" adds up. None of our Heroclix players ordered cases for Ultimates. I can't blame them, howecever, since the store owner apparently offered $380 a case. That price offers no discount, save $3. He used to give better deals. Not sure what he was thinking. Anyway, people are going to use the internet regardless of what we say. There are those who support local stores and will continue to do so, fortunately.
Twighlight Mast: One doesnt hurt, but over and over does. Like I said I sell my Marvel/DC at $75 per, I sell Magic at $95 per. I do give my good customers a break sometimes and will either give them a discount or I'll cover the tax for them. I am the only store of this kind in our area and if I dont stay around, there is no place here to play organized tournaments. I'm not naive enough to think I dont lose sales to the net, but if everyone did it, do you think this game or any other game would be as big as it is?
Here's one for you, I have a Magic guy that comes in here, NEVER buys singles from me (and I price my singles based on eBay prices), NEVER buys boxes/packs from me, yet he wants me to bend over backwards every time he comes in here. Only spends money in the store when we hold tournaments. So last night, he comes up to me and asks if he and use my computer to check on his bids on ebay to see if he won. Let me ask what you would do? I'll post later as to what I actually did, but want your comments.
I forgot, I have another one, another guy similar to the one above (they're friends go figure) asks me if I can pay for some Magic cards he got from an online website thru my paypal account. What would you do here? As above, I'll post later what I did.

Wow.. I wish there was a shop like that around here.. Unfortunatly i don't think that'll ever happen =/
I am direct, but I have a $2300/month rent to cover and just moving product isnt going to do it. Moving it that cheap is only good if you have a big market, which most dont. Plus, to be quite honest, Im not here for my health. Im here to make money and provide for me and my family. Im not here just to make sure people have a place to get thier stuff. I have to make a living at this. I do think $110 is WAY too high. I dont even charge that for Yugioh.
I think anything over 85 a box is to high. At my LCS if you don't have a discount member ship it is like 90 a box i think but if you have a member ship it is like 70 a box plus tax.
