As someone who doesn't play in tournies, I find some of the posts on this site hilarious.
I've been using the 7-drop Batman since it came out and while I was let down at first, I have a couple different Mono-GK decks that makes him consistently a 17/17 or higher. (A pre-MOS one, a post-MOS one.)
There are SOOOOOOOO many copycats in this game that can't play ANYTHING unless they see someone else do it first that there are great cards that slip through the cracks.
Originally posted by krazykilroy People who tend to be creative generally are players who wish to do something else except being mindless slaves to the metagame and win PCQ's with less than 25 people in it and brag about it in their sig
and for that example, You don't drop your Ivy, you drop Any other drop, and force them to choose. If I choose my Croc, do you drop your Garth? I don't think so. And you generally don't have a 6-drop, so you lose 2 cards if I drop Bane just because I say so.
Don't be so close minded. I've killed titan decks with riddler. You can only get so many cards back per turn with garth, and by then I'm coming at you.
Thanks for the personal attack, but I'm not bragging. I'm honestly bad at VS. I'm not bragging, just recording as I know I'll never remember how well I do, and I'd like to know in the future. Word files will be lost, but signatures are forever? (or until I leave...). Riddler is not playable competitively. His stats are god awful and his ability is so situational it's not even worth trying. Cards like charaxes and penguin are much better, as penguin works well with No man's land (tapping 2 characters easily) or arkham asylum for an additional +2 attack (or more card advantage if your board position really sucks, this is useful for prison break to draw more outs/drops). Mindless slave of the metagame? I played sealed. I couldn't really metagame by not playing gog cuz superman isn't popular. I played what was good and tossed what was junk.
Again, thanks for whining about my "bragging", it really makes me happy to know that I'm cared for like that.

Am I a bad player? ell *I* don't think so.
Am I a great player? I don't think so on that either.
But I do think of myself as creative.
It all depends on your goals in the game. I am primarily a casual player, so my goal isn't to win tournaments without taking a loss.
My goals is to build fun, wacky decks that is viable in competitive arenas.
So I have my burn variants, my Evasion variants, my Mojo variants...and now I'm working on a new, fun deck.
And hey, the results on them all have been pretty decent so far. =)
Kergillian, I didn't say creative players are bad players. I saw both your Newgods and mutant nation burn decks. Both worked well. Titans (though supoptimal) lost badly to them both. I have nothing against creative decks, but complaining about SUP OPTIMAL cards not being used is just worthless. Riddler is one of these. I'm a big fan of AI, but he just can't work well compared to charaxes or even Penguin (or blockbuster depending on build). Creativity isn't a flaw in people I'm trying to squelch, complaining about losing to uncreative people IS what is worthless. In playing VS. I'm trying to have fun. otherwise it'd just be a really low paying job that requires alot of work and doesn't let you earn money most of the time. This is a game, it's supposed to be fun. I play card games to have something to do, to meet new people (though most people who play games suck), or whatever. This isn't about the money, but going to NY with mojouniverse.dec will not make me more creative or cooler.
Originally posted by judgement-d I agree. I refuse to let vs become another yugioh with everybody saying evry card other card is useless. Personally I think vs is a chance to play with your favorite comic book character and try to win with them. Like spiderfriends could use some work. But spidey one of my favorites so i use him.
Ps pray for a card that gives characters evasion.
Spidey-friends is fine as it is. It is easily tier 2, and I don't mind tier 2 decks. Spider friends when played and built well can be really potent.
Originally posted by krazykilroy EVERY CARD has potential, it just takes the right person to unlock it. most people said Arsenal was bad when he first came out becasue of the resource loss and the fact that he needed other characters to effectively use his ability. But people unlocked his POTENTIAL quickly.
People said that Batman stunk, a 7/7? that required massive amounts of card draw? then he'd be overload bait? you were probably one of them too, admit it. then someone wins with it, and you're on the jock strap, explaining why he's sooooo good. That's the basic gist of the status quo player/netdecker.
and The way I beat a big Bat deck:
between mad hatter and Riddler, my opponent had two cards in his hand at the end of turn 5. on turn 6, i play scarecrow with the boost and put everything back in his hand. on turn 7, I have massive control.
but that's just me......
Wrong. Not every card has potential. Cards like Black tom, men of steel, kevlar body armor, one two punch, alley oop, big bully, hire goons, JJJ (currently), pinned and many, many more that have no potential to ever being great cards. I started playing this game right before DC origins came out. Everyone wanted to play inmates and GK while I seemed to be the only one in my area who like Titans. I started building it little by litte, getting garths (which I saw as broken right away, as regrowth is killer in mtg), Red stars, Terras (I was still divided among the two), tamarans, Panthas, Hawk and Dove, Donna troy (which I never actually got, as I realized only when I was about to get it bounced to hand which made it terrible), beast boys as well as koriandr. I also got Roy harpers, teen titans go, USS arguses, titans towers, have a blasts! I was still new to the game, I didn't know the game rules perfectly and had no idea about Roy+ttg and them untapping afters, I just really thought he could become a really big 3 drop, which gets better later on and can outright stun characters for a cost of a resource point on the last turn or before last turn of the game. My deck wasn't even closed to finished, and by the time I had half the deck, It was PC1. I noticed a few people playing titans, but none made day 3! I did notice brave and the bold and saw that it looked really cool, but I also saw that the 10k top 8... had titans... The next day, I found out it won and was very happy. Tim's build was a bit diffrent from mine, and I read through match reports and noticed how roy worked with TTG! Amazing! That makes my deck even better! I play tested my version, compared it to tims (exact copy) (using proxies) and noticed his ran much smoother. I still didn't like some card choices so I cut some stuff and changed the numbers to add my personal touch. It was off from my originally planned build from about 10-15 cards in the end, but it was working great! I was really happy I picked a winning team, a team I hated based solely on a useless TV show, but a team I saw potential to win for. The team was fun to play, so many tricks so many things to react with and regrowth of course. I fell in love, and tweaked and tweaked it. It started becoming more and more popular, and to this day I've only played 1 official constructed tourney. I just really love limited more then constructed I guess.
Your right, batman was crap when DC origins came out. Or that's what I thought at least, but I saw his numbers and noticed that he could be a 17/17 on turn 7 easily, and in the right swarm deck (I was thinking something about longshot and wild sentinels) he could get massive! but instead F5 Knights became popular, I loved this deck but couldn't build it as I had no money. But I always saw bats as being played one day, drawing cards=card advantage as well as huge creature? sign me up! I instantly took to cards that gave card advantage, but board advantage is much more important in this game it seems... Though card advantage can never be useless. This is why cards like bats have potential. Riddler, just doesn't cut it, he helped you win a 100% matchup if you draw scarecrow (which you did). That's all he was there for.
so krazy may not be as krazy as he first appears...
and warran - i like the irony in your initial 'whining about whining' post. i must disagree with your creativity stance. it is the good, strong, creative deckbuilders that unlock more tier 1 decks. if not for them, most people might still be playing brotherhood.
plus, Dave Humphreys already alluded to the fact that there are characters/deck builds that potentially aren't being utilized to their full potential (Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Secret Deck Build found in Atlantis!!). Could this just be a ploy to get us using different cards even if there are no stronger deck builds in the current environment? Perhaps. But it sure gets me thinking even more outside the box. And overall that is healthy for the game.
I really enjoyed that read, Humphries isn't a bad writer... Just a terribly slow reanimator player... Again, I never said creativity was bad. It's just using bad cards doesn't make you more creative. There are plenty of bad/sup-optimal cards to use in decks. There are plenty of optimal/good cards to use in decks. If you want to play 4x path of destruction in the GA format over 4 Beats go ahead, but don't whine when you lose to a deck that's packing 4 beats. People moan and moaned about Brotherhood, both big and tiny, Ce, Titans and CS in the future possibly. Thinking outside the box about cards with potential is good (Betrayal was a card I liked from day one, even when magneto was starting to be played in cs I still didn't come to any conclusions about it, as I personally don't go through cardlists after every new deck renovation. I though that maybe one day when more people were playing team ups it'd be really, really good.)
I didn't say to dismiss any teams outright, but you must dismiss some cards. If your playing Men of steel, to "test it out" it's just a waste of your testing time. Riddler can be compared to this (though he is slightly better). All teams can win games. Even AI can do very well, more people playing it and better builds would really help this. I'm a big fan of them, but come NY, I'm not sure if they'll be the right choice. They do have inconsistancy problems that they have to get over, which really sucks but the deck works.
It's people who never give a card the time of day who call a card crap.
and that why I can honestly say that EVERY card has potential. listening to people who actually never take the time to research a card on its own, as it seems that you do not do. (every tourney deck must have come straight off of someone else's recipe)
Listening to guys like you stop people from actually trying cards and making a new decktype.
It truly is a person like you that I truly whine about. It's like a person who will never hire a minority because one minority is a lazy bum. So you don't hire any because you see no POTENTIAL in any of them.
that my friend is a simple approach.
But the way I see it it will never matter, because you will never try anything new, and therefore be comfortable in your chair of calling things crap, as compared to your netdeck, even if it has never been tested against it.
I'm assuming you will be going to PC NY. I will be willing to test an arkham deck against your arsenal abuse. with no changes or additions from anything after DC origins.

Whine, whine, moan and complain.
Make an analogy of racist employers to not playing bad cards.
Challenge you to a game of playtesting that will prove nothing if either of us wins.
I never said anything bad about AI, I gave them only blessings. If you do win, it will not because of The riddler, he will just slow down your win considerably.
My AIM is Warranthad14, I'll gladly play you on MTGplay if you'd like to host.
