it is hard to change someone's opinion, when you can't see their point of view.
to us that are against it, it would ruin the feel and the concept we have of the source material. making the game no longer the same one we invested and played in.
and even if they made DBZ, or insert other crappy anime, and made it so they are not compatible or tournament worthy with Marvel and DC nand any other indy superhero comic brands. i would still be pissed, cuz that means they had to spend manpower, time and money on those sets, andthat might hurt the brands of VS that i care about.
UDE is not some all mighty bill gatesian conglomerate, they have deadlines to meet, and the botom line to worry about.
if they stretch themsevle too far, one of the brands will take a hit, and if one prodcut is sub-par, it leaves a bad taste in the players mouth, and the whole barrel will be spoiled by one bad apple.

I agree that as one who loves the charm and purity of the Marvel and DC VS games and would not want them mixed up with other unrelated introductions; never the less, I still would like to see seperate games that are not apart of the Marvel/DC world created using VS System rules and mechanics. And just for your information, Marvel VS is a seperate game from DC VS, they are merely based on the same VS rules mechanics. It is Tournement formats sanctioned by UDE that provides ways to combine them. You don't have to combine new offerings based on the VS system as was suggested happened with the D20 System. I think if you have s good system that is proven to work and can easily adapt other games, why not use it. Leave Marvel/DC by itself, but lets introduce more games that can stand by themself or grow inot larger group of combined games with additional related offering just as Marvel and DC have been used for.
We can have the best. I want to see Marvel/DC kept pure, but I want more games that use the VS system.
Well i doubt you have to worry about to many Animie becoming VS sets...take DBZ for example...most every char would be a 7 drop or higher...
That would just unbalance the game..and luckly wont ever happen...
However a Aliens and/or Predetor Set would be great...and would very easily fit into the VS theme, as would most INDY Commics...
Star Wars is Iffy...
Things like DBZ, Buffy, Star Treck, etc just wouldn't fit in very well with prior sets...mechanic wise sure they could be made, flavor wise..just wouldn't work out very well..
Though a few of the non-magic samuri animie might be neat to have as VS sets..

I see your point of view (or I can pretend I do.)
The problem is, UDE isn't concerned about YOU. They want more players to play the game so they can make more money. By expanding the source material, you get more players. I am not saying to throw EVERYTHING into VS. Just games that have failed on their own and/or anime/comics/whatever the people want to see.
Everyone is giving examples of smushing together DC/Marvel and other animes in a very unattractive way. You normally wouldn't play Arkham/Kang, so why would you play Saiyan/GK? Most people don't mix universes. If they team up, it's within Marvel or within DC.
I know Marvel and DC have hoards of unused teams, but would it be better for the game is they come out with obscure comic sets, or something fresh that people know about?

I don't want to see something like that in Vs.
That isn't a fair comparison. Chances are the DBZ characters "strength" would be adjusted to match better with the rest of the Vs. System. Since the characters must "collect their energy" to be as strong as they are, their characters would be a drop above the curve but not be able to attack the turn they were recruited. That would be both thematically acceptable and wouldn't make the team broken.
DBZ is just as much a superhero comic as Superman is. Hell, if you look closely at the plot lines through the 2 books you'd see a remarkable similarity. Both were sent to Earth before their planets were destroyed. Both are considered the strongest beings on the planet. Both are continuously fighting to save the entire planet. Both help lead a group of heroes to defend their adopted planet. Both fought and defeated powerful enemies from their home world.
Just because DBZ uses very large numbers to describe power levels doesn't really mean anything. $10.00 American is worth around 1112.8 yen so their concept of a large number is skewed. Maybe Kamahameha would be a +10 ATK no other plot twist + no other attack type of card.
Well seeing as I played dbz for 4 years, I can say that a dbz set would be interesting. Theres an insane number of supporting charecters(1-3ish drops) lots of average fighter with great techniques(3-6's) and of course the big guys (7-10)
But then again some of the villian team would be lacking. Some villians have large amounts of underlings some have 4. An example of this would be Frieza he has the ginyu force, Zarbon, Dodoria, King Kold and so many naeless soldiers.
But I have to say I'd love to see an Inuyasha or Ranma 1/2 Vs. set. lots of intresting charecters and then there's all the running jokes and techniques you could make into plot twists. Lots of locations, and equipments too.
Please never again compare Superman to any anime work.
First off if the plot lines are that similar then DC should sue Dragonball Z since Superman did all of this in the 1940's and 50's and if UDE doesnt care about they Marvel and DC players then they would surly loose thier fanbase and the majority of their money from the VS system.
The majority of people I know started playing VS because of the comic book characters, not because of the mechanics or the collectible card game atmosphere. If they were really concerned about that they could have played any of those other games, especailly the dead ones you can get on clearance.
As for the Kang/Arkham team up, I would bet that at one point or another any DC or Marvel character has been in the same book as a different character, it is more than likely given the history of the two companies.
Alien Vs Preadtor, Maybe, NO Anime, DBZ, Star Wars, ETC., the only problem is that Marvel already has their verison of the ALiens in the X-Men enemy Aline Race of the Brood.
PS there wont be any obscure comic sets to the fans out there, and the main reason new people get into the game is if their friends already play.
Plus there are already plans of redoing certain sets X-Men again after JLA, with X-Men, Brotherhood, Hellfire Club and the Morlocks. I can think of about 5 or 6 new sets that UDE can do that would sell and attrack many new players similar to Avengers that only Use Marvel and DC characters.

Why? They are both great works. Just because you don't like anime/mange doesn't mean the rest of us don't.
UDE cares about making money. There is no denying this, they are a company. Companies make money. The easiest was to make more money is sell more product. The easiest way to sell more product is make the player base larger. The easiest way to make the playerbase larger is advertise and/or appeal to a bigger portion of the market.
I bet you if they made a DBZ set people like you would still play. Just not play DBZ. There's nothing wrong with sticking to your Marvel/DC guns.
I would rather keep the american comic book companies in on VS. But I do think that Capcom would make a great set. They've been involved in Marvel in the past with their Street Fighter cross-overs and such. Capcom (Maybe SNK) would be the only companies outside superheroes who could fit.
What I do not want is to have them on the same field at once. I do not want to have my Green Lanterns against Goku and whoever he has. I want the Vs system to stay with Marvel/DC.
That said, I see how it is a great idea to have whatever people want in a set that does not contain the Vs. System backing. If the card games had the same mechanics and everything, fine. I just don't want them to be mixed together with Marvel/DC.
For those of you all whining that anime or something else would be bad for the game, your wrong. Reason, your only thinking about yourself. If you expand to other genre's like anime or video games, you expand the playerbase by at least a third. And right now, that would be good for the game. And for those you crying about DBZ, watch a DBZ episode in japanese before crying foul, It's quite different. Hell, I know for a fact if they came out with an anime set and a video game set like FF, the playerbase in Roanoke, Va would triple. And it would go up in most other places as well. Notice then that local tournaments are something better than 8-14 player things, they will be around 20 to 30 people tournaments. Which at the moment, would be good for everyone. Now if a few people quit, let them, there will be at least a 2 entering the game for each 1 quitting.
Basically expansion of the material would be good and profitible.
but anyway, how about we look at the logstics of it.
where would this new brand fit into during the year?
you either cut out a marvel or DC set to give UDe the appropiate manpower and time to make the set. but then you have alot of comics fans upset. and you violate the contract UDe has with marvel and DC.
or you just toss this set out whenever they feel like, but then UDe will be stretched so thin that one or more of the brands will be poor done. unless the hire new people, and make their work force grow to handle all the new testing, marketing, advertising, developing...
but if their budget and expenses grow, they either take a loss for the first couple of sets, hoping that the bottom line will get out of the red as the new players they hoped to attract buy more stuff. or they raise the prices on all products just to break even.
and lets not forget about, licensing the intellectual properties, creators rights, and royalties.
you people can hope and dream and all you want, and call us short sided and selfish, but i am really not seeing a good plan to implement this 'bold" idea.
