Resurfacing this thread, I see the emperor as a male leader who offers advice or guidance. As such I think it would definately have to be someone like Dr Strange, although Prof X works well too, but I am not sure which version would fit best if using the Prof.
This guy has all the answers, and he's gonna make sure you know them when he's done. He'll march you straight to Nirvana, as long as you can stay in step. That reminds me... DON'T EVER START A CHURCH IN MY NAME. I mean it.
To me the Hierophant is someone who makes us question our choices. I believe he is supposed to be the leader of a religous or secular group but that is secondary.
Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of is Ben Parker making Peter question his choices (watched the film recently).
Bastion is the name that jumps out at me---not because of his in-game representation, but his role in comics. He was practically the incarnation of that fear of the future, that fear of change, which I associate with the Heirophant. Though there are further meanings alongside, the one thing that I see most prominently in the Heirophant is a rigidity; Bastion was about maintaining the center, above all else, and to hell with the damage he caused.
Notice the exclamation point. This is an intense dynamic. Not sweet sappy stu-hippy love, but stalker-can't-have-her-since-she-is-in-there-with-someone-else love. The kind of love that tears you in two pieces and makes you sure you will never survive. Should you stay alive without her, or just finish the story now... with a knife.
My first thought was Thanos. You know, being in love with death and all and being willing to destroy the universe to woo her. Is this limited to only current cards or inevitable future ones as well?
If it's only current cards, I'd go with Harley Quinn, Loves the Joker so much she'll do anything, including powering up icky, smelly guys like Ratcatcher, Hush, and Killer Croc.
You can use any comic myth. Thanos on the Lovers card would make my life complete. If I ever actually make it to production, I vow to make that a reality. Thank you sir, I have to administer a standardized test in fifteen minutes. You have helped to make my two and a half hours of silence very pleasant indeed as I start sketching a Thanos/Death Number Six for the deck.
How about It's Clobbering Time. This represents lovers tiffs everywhere, but especially when Reed refuses to admit to his love that dare not speak its name for Thing.
You are getting some on the side and she is a different color than your wife. You are also a strict moralist and you know for sure you are going to hell for it. You got a new car and it is really really fast. Change of life situation, due to pure speed and blind obsession.
Sounds a bit like Daredevil to me. He gets a lot of action on the side, is a real moralist (though whether or not he's going to hell is uncertain). "Pure speed and blind obsession" also describe him.
If it's personifying contradictions you're looking for, you don't get more obvious than Two-Face. And he's a 7-drop to boot. Isn't the Chariot card 7 in the major arcana?
