Yeah, you draw into this card if you are lucky and you ... force your opponent to KO a character that they can just recruit again.
Ingenious.
The banned list is as follows:
Antarctic Research Base
Detective Chimp, Bobo T. Chimpanzee
Dr. Light, Master of Holograms
Fiddler, Isaac Bowin
Frankie Raye™ ? Nova, Optimistic Youth (Effective Feb. 9, 2007)
Go Down Fighting
Gone But Not Forgotten
Justice League of Arkham
Nenora™, Skrull Usurper (Effective Feb. 9, 2007)
Overload
Talia, LexCorp CEO
Valeria Von Doom, Heir to Latveria
That's TWELVE CARDS.
If you somehow got a magic pack that had every one of these cards AND a foil copy of one of these cards ... you'd STILL have 1 card in the pack that wasn't banned.
LESS THAN A SINGLE PACKS WORTH OF CARDS ARE BANNED.
In how any sets?
Twelve sets.
That's a ONE CARD PER SET AVERAGE.
And that isn't counting any of the starters.
MOR - 220 cards
DOR - 165 cards
MSM - 165 cards
DSM - 165 cards
Every set forward - 220 cards [not counting a SINGLE reprint in Marvel Knights]
So that is 220 x 9 + 165 x 3 - 1 = 2474
Now, there is the Batman starter, the X-Men starter and the Fan Four starter. There should be at LEAST 26 more cards between those three. So let's round it up to 2500 ...
12/2500 = 0.5%
That's 1 in 200.
2 cards from MOR banned.
1 card from DOR banned.
1 card from DSM banned.
1 card from DGL banned.
1 card from DJL banned.
1 card from MXM banned.
2 cards from DCS banned.
3 cards from MHG banned.
So MHG is the set with the most banned cards.
THREE.
THREE BANNED CARDS in one set.
All still playable in sealed mind you. All common cards. So at worst you'll get FOUR cards in a pack [assuming you 'duplicate' a common in the foil slot] that are banned. That's still less than a third of the cards in the pack.
But hey, why not just throw around claims like "way too many cards banned" or "every pack you get a card that has been banned". Who cares if they are ridiculously overstated, exagerated hyperbole.
Who here has gotten a copy of Nenora OR Fankie OR Valeria in EVERY PACK of Heralds?
What about DC OR Fiddler in EVERY pack of IC?
The rest aren't even worth mentioning as the only other set with more than one banned card has an uncommon and a rare ... thus SIGNIFICANTLY reducing the odds of pulling one or the other in EVERY pack you open.
Ultimately, massive overstatements and huge generalizations are NOT going to get people to rush to your cause.
Saying stuff like "Every free character needs to be banned" or "everyone on this site is a whiner" or "every pack you open will have a banned card in it" are ALL statements that basically translate to "I am blowing things out of proportion ...".
Considering that satirists will mock people by taking their opinions and blowing them out of proportion ... doing it to yourself means you risk being a satiric self-parody that undermines your own argument.
Calm down, calm down! Sheesh. If I had known that being angry that my favorite cards are being banned would make you guys mad... kudos to akugyaku. I will now be repping you as often as possible.

Had you said you were angry that your favorite cards were getting banned I wouldn't have gotten "mad".
You were making a number of flat out FALSE statements about how there are so many cards being banned, etc.
If you are mad they are banning cards you like ... just say it. Don't try to wrap in "they are banning too many cards" or "players are getting shafted because they'll have a banned card in every pack".
Saying stuff that is patently false because you have an ulterior motive isn't going to make people mad ... however they are going to call you on it.
I call Stu on it when he says things that are ridiculously false because he's exagerating. I call chdb on it when he was things that are ridiculously false because he's exagerating [although he'll just say it's off point ... ;)].
Bottom lie ... giving your opinion won't get your head 'bit off'. But saying ridiculous statements as if they are facts ... that will.
Honestly, this "fixes" the metagame. There is still the possibility for recruit step juice, just the sheer broken ability to draw 4-8 cards (or more) in a build phase is gone. Face the fact that Frankie NEEDED to go for the sake of the game, and apparently Nenora did too.
UDE doesn't do anything without a reason, and while this is unfortunate to those heavily invested in Frankie and the Alternate recruit one drops that bring chaos to the build phase, it will help to spice things up yet again.
Thus the reason why Enemy of my enemy should never be banned: the sheer cost of EOME would drive many people to riot and quit VS, claiming a waste of time and money on a card that cannot be used.
Banning an uncommon/common is nothing in comparison. Just one more dead card to open in a pack. (like you didn't have 12 frankie raye's already???)

Calm down, calm down! First of all, yonger players are. We live on allowance. When we have job money at our disposal to buy cases, it isn't disappointing. As for giving my opinion, that WAS my opinion. My opinion is that UDE should lighten up, and let peoples combo's live. If they're so good, then everyone will make one and be in a fair fight.

Really? You honestly think it's a good thing for UDE to let the game devolve to the point where everyone has to build the exact same thing to be competitive?
What happened to having FUN while playing a card game? What happend to playing cardboard superheroes for the superheroes? I'm a huge Green Lantern fan. I'm also a huge Deadpool fan. I can't play my favorite characters, and neither can thousands and thousands of other players, becuase YOU don't want to ban a 1-drop common?
Screw that, I'd rather all the current cards be banned and we just start over than have to live with an OP environment that horrifying.
If everyone really wanted playtesters to "catch everything" sets would be released about as often as Spider-Man movies ... once every three years. Since I don't think that's the case, hooray for Hump and the banhammer.

Well said. No, that's not what I think at all. What I meant was, if people are so obsessed with those combos, they'll build the same deck, or find cards to combat them. And if you're still against it, and think they should be banned, then you shouldn't be playing competitive. You should be playing hobbie league like I do. Although I would like to play some PCQ's down in Indy, I prefer hobbie league. Where Vs is actuall fun, and not cut throat where everyone is tense and conserned on wining the pot.
Let's all be glad that Humphreys is the man with the banhammer and not Walter Sobchac (If you're such a big fan of the Big Lebowski, why don't you spell it correctly: Sobchak? I don't mean to rag on you too much. I love the Dude, too, man.)
For reals, Dave Humphreys always takes care of business and does the right thing. If a few commons become worthless, but the game is more fun because of it, I say it's a good trade. It's sad that some players like Walter Sobchac feel that they're getting the shaft because they have some useless cards, but you have to understand that the decision was made for the health of the game. It was a good decision, and UDE obviously thought it out quite a bit. They don't like to ban cards, precisely because of complaints like Walter's, but when they do, it's 'cause it's the right course of action. Let's all take it easy, like the Dude would do, and enjoy the new Frankie Raye-less environment. I'm sure it will be much better.
