I can understand that for sure, although I'm sure the loss of the PCQ's altogether didn't exactly help.
On a more positive note, I got the impression that the majority of players here aren't pursuing a PC invite, so all that's really necessary to have a good tournament is a place, a group of guys willing to pay handsomely toward a decent prize pool, and someone to run it. Hell, if it doesn't need to be sanctioned, the T.O. can play too.....also, If anyone's interested, I'd be willing to put up one of my MTU playmats.
I'm cool with those ideas. Don't care about a PC invite either, for obvious reasons. Also, a tournament might even allow us to meet (which we may never do otherwise, given that I only play at XP on thursday HL).
Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, I am actually qualified for the PC both in terms of points and in rating. Doesn't do me much good, though.
Likewise. It's nice to put a face to the screen name. ;)
As for the tourny, I only mentioned p500 as a starting point. I'm not sure how much swag we could get if we only did 200p......assuming we had 10 players, thats 2000p split for a cash prize as well as swag.....which wouldn't be much....how much are individual packs here? 160p? I'll have to ask and see i guess.
yeah, it's normally P160.
something tells me you won't be playing Flashback if this event pushes through :p
i dunno, what killed the scene for me is the "win at all costs" attitude of some players. some would go around town playing in all HLs with ultra competitive decks that were netdecked from 10k winners so they can hoard all the EAs and then sell at a premium.
the only reason why players in the Philippines don't have Pro Circuit ambitions is that they can't afford to go to one. but if UDE would come up with a PC in South East Asia, i'm sure there would be some who would attend.
but still, there are a lot of players in Manila, more than most locales in the world.

lmao. I love that deck to death, but it just requires a bit too much. I can't can't seem to bring myself to move from something as complicated as flashback all the way down the straight aggro off-curve like syndicate.
Would you be willing to play in a p500 tournament?

Agreed. The player base for TCGs in general seems great here. Hopefully we can take advantage of that a little. Would you shell out around p500 for a tournament?
i won't
for one thing i'm in vancouver :P
but even if i'm there, 500 pesos is a bit too much. the best price range would be 100-150 pesos
lmao....being in the same hemisphere would probably help....;)
hmmm...maybe the conversion is mixing me up...I still dont have a good grasp on the cost of living here. Everyone paid around 100-150 p for a HL.....and I' guessing for a good tournament with good support they'd be willing to pay a little more....
yeah but 500 is a bit too much. 200 would be the maximum but you really have to give them great prizes to convince them to spend.
use the big mac index :P
while 13 dollars here (500 pesos) would get you a decent fast food meal and desert, a fast food meal and desert wouldn't cost more that 150 pesos there

yeah, i get your drift. bashing your opponent's endurance in record time can get a little boring after a few games, hehehe.

normally, no, 'coz i'm a cheap bastich, hehehe.
but considering we haven't had a PCQ or something like it in the past few months, i'd be willing to shell out that amount for an organized tournament, as long as the price payouts and swag trickle down to at least the top 8.

There'd be a Top 8 for sure, and maybe some door prizes....I'd have to do the math though.
I'm used to playing in poker tournaments, so the prize payout would likely mimic those.
How much would 3000p be likely to get us in packs? I'm guessing about 1 box....so the prizes wouldn't be amazing if we only have 10 guys play at 300p each.......
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I don't know what options we have for prize support to buy.....or if the only prize people would want would be cash......the values might run similar to this. Very rough version
10 players x (for example) 500p entry
1st prize value: 2400p (48%)
2nd: PV 900p(18%)
3rd: PV 450p(9%)
4th: PV 450p(9%)
5-8: PV 150p (each)(16% total, 4% each)
2 door prizes of 100p value (cant be won by 1-2 place)
Obviously more players would mean more prize money. The percentages would stay the same, so everyone would benefit from more people playing. The more people that play, the more money/prizes everyone makes.
Also, this is assuming that XP (or neutral grounds, whichever holds it) does not throw in any swag. If they do, then anything they throw in would be a bonus, and be given out similar to the prize payout.
300 pesos may be a little bit too much, but then again thats looking at 10 people. i'm sure if you offer that kind of money you can easily get 20 people to pay 150 pesos
