Funny...I was told VS didn't need changes like this.
Also, it's not a big deal that the activation symbol is right off of WoW's card game (as well as the template design, essentially)? I thought this website hated that game?
Cool.
However, I seem to have been wrong on one point. UDE does listen to the people who post here (considering erick, myself, and others have been asking for this kind of change for a while). Looks like we CAN speak our minds. Neat-o.

Wow you totally came off as a sanctimonious crank! Sweet preview.
Yeah I can accept the changes without quiting. I just don't like the new concealed/visible system. Sun and Moon does not make me think comics. The old concealed optional system was nice because of the black border characters. You could tell that the random black card put over yonder was concealed and it was an easy reminder. I actually think sun/moon is less intuitive. I also don't like the On/Off switch abilities unless the cards could like light up which would be sweet.
The art style and the rest of the card is cool. Its much more progressive and hopefully different enough to drag some new people into the game.
Edit: I just looked at 3 ton boulder again and saw how it was partially black. It looks like the concealed black card system is still in place. I take back that part of my complaints.
I just think that instead of being Vertically based the cards look more horizontally based which if you like that sort of thing is fine. The art style itself for the set looks purrrty, the change to symbols for concealed and concealed-optional was probably inevitable.
I'm not so sure I like the lite brite effect of having all the icons on a card and them only being highlighted if they're active. having the Card Type in Art box is okay, goes with the new Horizontal landscaping, not sure how you're gonna fit traits in there too unless they're dumping them entirely...which would be kinda stupid. the new symbols were also probably inevitable but it doesn't surprise me that they stole HeroClix symbols since didn't UDE buy Topps which owns WizKids which makes Clix...why come up with a new template if you can steal one from your existing game. Same with the WoW tap symbol...
So overall I'm pretty meh about the whole change over, it doesn't thrill me but at the same time I can live with it.

Hey guys,
Just to let you know, the black/red concealed/not-concealed thing is still there - the symbols are there to replace the concealed keyword in the text box. You'll still have hidden characters be in a black border. Also cards with concealed-optional will have a gradient border, just like the three ton boulder shows. Yes, this means that characters who are stunned are still "concealed" while stunned, just one of the little changes to make the game a lot easier for new players (and existing ones for that matter) to learn.
I like the new look, and I know that my youngest (5) who is still learning the game, will be able to understand the symbols better, and will have a better time dealing with the Attack and Defense seperated.
what are they gonna do with the other teams that don't have recognizable icons? Are they just going to make something up so it goes with their new design? I really hope they thought ahead on this because teams like villains united, sentinels, underworld, and i don't know fearsome 5 are going to get screwed.
Well the good news is the new card art looks awesome and the rest of the formatting isn't terrible, I still prefer the old styling but the new one may just take some getting used to (although I'm really not sold on the team affiliation symbols).
I'm also liking the power level of the cards previewed with the exception of the 3 ton boulder, but as many have already stated equipment rules might be changing (however I feel this is unlikely given the line in the article mentioning "Mr.Fantastic, Stretch"'s synergy with this equipment)
But with all of this change is anyone else a little worried about the turn the game is taking? I'm all for the "legends" and having plot twists specifically for them but this only works so well. It will make alot of new decks play alot like Doom always has. Doom has been the king of self referencing cards from the start but do we really want every team to play like Doom (half the fun of doom is the unique play style)? Doom really only works as well as he does because he has Boris or Penny to go fetch his plot twists when they are needed, how will this fair with teams that don't have room for such luxuries. And if they do, do we really want Penny and the Gotham Knights team up to become the metagame staple in every legend deck?
I have faith in UDE but I do fear for the worst, I'm not saying the sky is falling or that I'll quit the game (unless something incredibly drastic changes with gameplay) but I'm a little uneasy to embrace a revamped build phase and whatever "simpler gameplay" entails...
