Before what was leaked? What are you talking about?
The press release was on the UDE website when this was FIRST posted on the Realms. Heck most of these "leaks" on the Realms have been people reposting press releases from the UDE website. Now, perhaps these press releases should be on VsSystem.com instead of getting posted to Realms ... but ultimately, press releases don't give out much 'real' information.
"Hey guys. As you know I am admining over at CCGRealms.com so I receive Upper Deck bulletins on all their products... I got this blast in my mail box today, and figured I'd post it here as it's exciting!"
This is the quote from the OP of the sticky thread. You mean no one from Upper Deck, given the state of this the No. 1 message board for their game, couldn't post this and say: "Here's an announcement, we can't say anything about the tourneys until next month and we'll have more details on the voting on the set next week on vssystem.com."? No we have to get the dirt from an admin on this family of websites who just happened to see this press release in their office. They couldn't have given this release to the VSRealms staff, or either of the two major podcasts (Ring Has Chosen or Fallout Shelter) who cover their games?
It amazes me how horrible UDE's PR is. They could give Sony a run for their money in terms of double-talk, back-talk, and utter confusion given to their customers.
Oh I forgot, they're all too busy playing WoW to notice what they're customers are saying.
PS: I'm glad everyone made it out safe from the fires there, but I GUARANTEE you at least 1/2 of the UDE employees were looking for shelter/hotels with broadband or Wi-Fi so they could feed their addiction, I mean, play WoW.
MSU Hitman, join the club. see my sig.
I've been thinking about necro-ing the UDE: Why do you love WoW more that VS? thread, but, the times are too cheery. I'll wait on that. Might decide not to.
Back to topic, I'd look for broadband too. Who wouldn't? el internete' is muy importante. dial up? psh. thats not REAL internet =p
I see ... they must all be too busy playing WoW to send their press releases to everyone.
Considering the fact that nearly EVERY press release has ended up on VsRealms in less than a day from it going up on the UDE website, it's hardly like we are not getting the information.
We have some people from UDE post on the boards, and they do give us information. Heck, we had Jeff Donais respond VERY fast to someone asking about the Player's Choice thread.
We have gotten all the press releases posted on the Realms very soon after they showed up on the ude.com website. They could have sent them to us directly, but odds are the time it would take an admin or mod to get the e-mail and post on Realms about it, someone else would have already spotted it and put up a thread about it ... even I'm not on here 24/7.
The few moments between when the press release was put up, and the press release is not known about on the Realms are hardly going to be the end of the world.
As for the bulletin ... wow, he's set up with a newsletter/feed/etc that lets him know when Upper Deck puts a press release on their own website. Hypothetically, anyone could sign up for that kind of bulletin ... I get e-mails about a number of Upper Deck stuff ... I ussually ignore/delete them because I'm only interested in stuff that is Vs. related, and Realms ussually has it before I'd get the e-mail anyway. And, it's on the Upper Deck website anyway, so you can always go and check that site for new stuff.
Seriously, how is it so bad that Upper Deck just puts their press release on their website and one of the helpful Realms users gets a thread up about it on our site in under 12 hours? Would the extra time have really added to the discussion? We've had UDE employees come and post about it after the press releases were being talked about on Realms. It's probably better for them to post AFTER the discussion has started. UDE put out the initial press release, it doesn't really matter WHO brings it to the communities attention. Their time is better suited responding to people AFTER they've read and replied to the press release, instead of posting it intially. Honestly ... someone is going to see the press release and post a link on Realms ... why pay someone to do that?
I really don't mean to be a downer and I really like how the OP is shaping up but unlike a lot of you, I'm going to wait to see it before praising/criticizing UDE for the new program. Seems like there are just as many, if not more people blindly loving UDE on these forums than haters. Or maybe it just seems that way because aceswolf makes so god damn many posts about it...who knows?
LOL I made it into one of your post :) The VS LOVE is Spreading.
These could turn out JUST like the 15K events. Remember those? Those were even officially announced and never really came to pass. I am not negative, just a realist. I will believe it when I see it occur. NOT when it is announced, we have played that game before.
It is just like how the president warned us....
"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again. You've got to understand the nature of the regime we're dealing with."

You mean the 50K events?
The ones that were in the same post that talked about 3 1/3rd of a million dollar pro circuits and the like.
As opposed to now which is CONFIRMING only 1 PC, and no specified number of Mega Weekends? And not promising ANY ammount of money for either event? And which includes all the "press release legaleese" in it?
Technically, this one is promising nothing, if only because they got burned the last time.
However, they are also not promising something they can't afford. If they took the ammount they spent this year on the Mega Weekend Ohio, PC Indy and PC Sydney, they could easily run another PC at Indy, and have a few Mega Weekends. Heck, they might even save even more money and "piggy back" the Darkmoone Faire and just run some Vs. events at the same time, and have the event be a DF and Mega Weekend.
They are offering a plausible OP system for Vs. system, which is very different than comparing it to the "we haven't had 10Ks in forever, now we're not just giving them back, but with 5 times the prizes!".

G W Bush...
Here I thought the saying was:
"Fool me once and I will let all hope fall away from my soul and trust no one ever again."
So today we find out what we might be getting. I keep refreshing the VSsystem.com web sit to see what we are going to get. UDE put it up all ready Please.
Just as a reminder of what was actually in the press release:
It said that the 'voting' for the Fan Choice would start Nov 5th, but it said that, for the OP stuff:
Quote
Details of the World Championship Tournament and Mega Weekends will be announced in December.
Similarly, TBS [which is now Peachtree TV ;)] mentioned that the Player's Choice stuff would be announced this week, while the Mega Weekend/World Championship details would be coming soon.
This is just because I've seen a couple people posting like they would be giving out the OP schedule today. Just don't want people getting the wrong idea and complaining for the next month because the OP dates were "late" when people were just expecting them earlier.

I know that I just can't wait to see what we get to vote on.
I think what we are looking for would go more like this.
As most of you know we at UDE don't make our tournament announcements till whenever, but we wanted you all to know that we did hold our OP meetings in September and we have a lot of exciting things planned for 09. We can't give anything away, and we are firming up the details on a few of the more outrageous events we have planned, but we just wanted the VS. faithful to know you have not been forgotten. With the upswing in sales from the last few sets we believe we are in a position to reinvigorate our high level OP program as well as continue to improve our support of local and regional events. We've been quite pleased with how the local stores and communities have stepped up during this period of transition, and we want you to know it has not been time wasted on your part. UDE will be continuing to support VS Organized Play and I think you will all be quite pleased with what we have to present to you. I would encourage all players to get prepared for what I believe will be one of the most lucrative years in Vs. short history.
or something like that.
I will thank them for their actions, but for their words, well I did ask for almost these exact words so - Thank you for the words hopefully they will help the community and game to grow and prosper.
