$10 2-players starters would be idea but it would be hard to create a good margin on that.
$8 1-person 30-card starter would be a good product.
maybe this is just me, but I've never really been a fan of the 2-player starter. Other than teaching someone the game, what good does a 30-card starter do for someone? It's not legal in any format (not enough cards), they're bland. While I agree that something would be great, precons/theme decks that are play-from-box ready would seem ideal. You guys sell magic ones for 12 bucks or something, right?
Yugioh's starter decks are $10 in retail stores and usually $10-$13 at hobby shops. They have multiple reprints in them with anywhere from 1-5 new cards. With the sets being bigger now I don't see a problem in making 2 starters focusing on main teams for each new set release. Each starter can be 60 cards and have 1 exclusive rare not found in the main set. A good price would be about $15. These would sale really fast at first. Most of us could just buy it and sub in something for the rare card then give it away to a new player.
If they were to offer just cards found in the set then they probably wouldn't sale that well. Unless they put a really good card in them. Like Mobilize or something. They need to offer something that new players can start out with cheap and appeals to the people already playing the game.
The shops near me sold out of Hellboy pretty quickly. It was an exciting set. The shops I know of on the east coast sold out as well.
That's only accounting for about 10 different gaming regions, but sure, that isn't enough to represent the whole world, by far.
However, the shops I speak of didn't buy just one or two, but instead bought about 12 or so and each went through them all. My household owns 4 on our own.
(3 of the Galactus sets as well... curse you delicious little MEX packs!!!)
Allow people to create their own hobby leagues and run them in places other than game stores. Find a way to ensure that these people do not sell them on eBay, so that groups like mine (anywhere between 4-8) can have sanctioned play, with prizing.
It's unfair that just because the store owners around here are uncooperative that our scene should suffer.
I agree completely.
There is no store in my area that has a hobby league. The closest shop is over an hour away. I meet with 4 guys at my house pretty regularly, but if it weren't for that I wouldn't get to play at all.
I don't even care that much about the swag and special cards. I just want someway to find other local players.
Actually, with the complaints about Marvel Legends being underprinted ... maybe precons can be an excuse to reprint some stuff and make it a bit more available?
The problem is, with all the suggestions, its something they might do. They're not going to put "money" rares into starters, it would kind of defeat the purpose of them being rare. IE you spending more money to buy packs, to get the rares, or someone buying more packs to get the rares, to then sell to other people. Making exclusives less exclusive, or letting joe schmoe get a hold of HL kits to run their own, wouldn't really hurt them that much I think.
exactly. money rares from starters will never exceed the cost of the starter. I think the way magic does it is just fine, or at least a related variant would do.
