I actually, own Battle Royale 2. I have yet to watch it all the way through. It just doesn't hold my interest at all. One of these days I'll get through it all.
I was browsing this thread for movie ideas for movie night, which was great so thanks to all the posters. Some of the films I've watched from the viewing suggestions here:
Warning, Spoilers ahead
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
The Cube: It had a good idea, it was interesting for most of the film. Some characters would be annoying, but over all I liked it... Then it abruptly ended without any real explanation. I am sure some people will find the lack of information appealing, I am not one of these people.
Super: Well, holy crap. I went in expecting "Kick-###" with Dwight Shrute... I cannot stress this enough, this is NOT anything like Kick-###. Graphic, almost too graphic. And something that made the violence worse was the way they tried to trivialize it. It was a decent film, but I don't think I would ever watch it again.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: I was expecting, The Good Shepard esque, which isn't too far off what I got. It wasn't as enjoyable, but John Hurt and Gary Oldman really make any movie they are in. I have really been into Tom Harding's recent work, so that was a plus. I could see myself watching it again in the future, and I've already recommended it to people.
Fright Night: As a HUGE fan of the original, I went in with my hate-goggles on. This film managed to entertain me more than I thought possible. I loved the actors, the story was decent, and the way the plot unfolded was enjoyable. The throwbacks to the original, like how the annoyed man who hit the back of their car on the highway was the original Jerry, the club scene, and locking him in the room with the newly turned Amy. The awesome redux of a bad rap song was gravy. I prefer the original, but this was a great film.
Warrior: As I said, I have really been enjoying Tom Harding lately which is why I originally got this film. I loved the character development, and how you slowly got to see more and more into the past for the reasons/motivations for the main characters. The action was nicely passed with the storytelling, and the ending was satisfying but definitely lacking in closure. Great film, I suggest it to anyone who likes a good fighter movie with deep characters.
"This is THE WORLD! Not that you would be able to see it or even feel it, since time has stopped..." Need Batman-family clix

I like Cube. Sure, the acting is awful, but the cool concept more than makes up for it. Sure, nothing is answered in the end, but maybe it doesn't need to be.

It all gets explained in Cube 2 and Cube zero.
Watched Visitor Q recently, my favorite Takashi Miike film. It has something to offend most everybody (drug use, necrophilia, incest, domestic violence and kids being killed).
Oh, I didn't like Cube 2. That one was not nearly as good.
Yeah, that's my least favorite of the 3. The CGI stuff just looked bad. I was pleasantly surprised with Cube Zero though. It's a prequel to the first one. The film is gritty and the cube isn't as sterile as it was in the first 2 films.

Agree with you. Cube 2 was all style and no substance. It's like they got a bigger budget and just decided to have a lot of cool special effects instead of having an interesting plot or characters.
And definitely agree on Cube: Zero. Rounded out the trilogy nicely.
I was surprised by the content though, to be honest. I don't think most of it would fly PG nowadays, between the harsh language and the intended rape.
You've never seen BtF? Also I think that came out before PG-13... I might be wrong but it was around that time so they didn't have the guidelines that they did now, back then they were worried about violence, now they've switched it around.
I saw God Bless America, funny little movie about spree killing, if not very dark. Bob gets way too preachy but some of the points he makes are in line with anyone who is fed up with the pop TV culture we find ourselves in today.
Well, seeing as I just had 2 16 hour flights in the past month, and 2 others of about 6 hours, I figure I've seen about 12 movies and half a dozen weird international travel shows (was on Korean Air for the long flights).
Highly recommended:
Pirates: A Band of Misfits
Hunger Games (wow, I was expecting something horrid/teeny a la "Twilight", but its a solid movie and great story)
The Five Year Engagement
Moderately recommended:
The Raven
Dr Suess' Lorax
Avoid:
Ghost Rider II (oh my god it was painful)
My memory eludes me on a few others I watched, but if I recall, I'll add them in.
If you aren't familiar with Mike's material, then I think this will be a worthwhile experience. For me it was too familiar. It's well-acted and put together though, so even though it wasn't novel for me, it didn't feel like a waste of time.

I am SUPER familiar with Mike's material and really want to see this. I just got done reading the book a week or so ago.
