FINALLY got to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes tonight. I was totally engrossed in that movie. That doesn't happen much for me when I'm at home watching movies. I will usually be doing something as I watch movies such as posting on the realms and such. I found myself getting very wrapped up in it for long stretches. VERY good movie.

The Campaign was pretty funny but that's to be expected from Zach & Will however the real surprise is McDerrmit in his portrayal of the best movie scumbag I've seen in a while.

This. Every scene he was in, I was laughing hysterically. But the dinner scene with Zach and his family, I was laughing so hard I was crying. By the time I got out of the theater, my stomach hurt and I was unable to stop smiling.

I've heard this more than once. Enough that I may have to get over my trepidation caused by that Tim Burton mess and finally watch it. I'm a huge fan of the original film (enough to own this - #620 of 2,000), and the Burton one was lacking every single thing that made the original so thoughtful and brilliant.
Of course, I just need to remind myself Burton had nothing to do with Rise...

I know you will be ashamed of me when I say this, but I've never seen any of the P.O.T.A. movies. This was my first. So, going into it I had a generic idea of what was happening in terms of them setting up things that led to the original movies, but other than that I was watching it with unassuming eyes. I had a feeling that several things were included in the movie as easter eggs to the fans even without knowing full well what they were referring to. I only knew they were easter eggs because the way they were "Framed" in a scene.

Then I highly recommend viewing the 1968 original. Once you get past Chuck Heston's trademark overacting (entertaining in its own right), it's the complex layers of social subtext on everything from slavery and racism to the class system and religion vs. science that makes it a surprisingly intelligent script, which is sometimes unfortunately overlooked due to the monkey suits.
But I would expect no less from a screenplay co-written by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling.

If it is playing near you and you can enjoy a film that is just about truth and beauty and sadness and anguish and beauty again... then this is for you.
Or you know... if you liked Baraka or the -Qatsi films or other Ron Fricke stuff.
Was just incredible. I was practically holding my breath to keep quiet and just experience the whole thing.

Just watched Safe House on DVD....Great Action Movie, a bit after the Bourne fashion.
Ryan Reynolds does a very good job and of course Denzel...is Denzel, fantastic as allways!!! Highly reccommend.
Saw Black Dynamite. Was hoping it'd be as clever as the Naked Gun movies or Undercover Brother, but was disappointed. It was only OK.

That's funny. I just watched this movie Sunday when the Wife and I went over to my parent's house for dinner. I wasn't really overly impressed with it and gave it a "Good Enough" rating.

My brother in law just recently showed this movie to me and I found it pretty great. I love how aware of itself the movie was. It was intentionally to be like a REALLY bad blaxsploitation movie...similarly to the way Mars attacks was made to be a big budget "B" movie. I appreciated the intelligence of the stupidity if that makes any sense.

I love how the actor's name is used an alias for the charactor he played in the move
Last seen at the movies: The Campaign. Funny as hell, and I'm about 50/50 on Will Ferrell movies, though it's really Zach Galifianakis who makes the movie. At least 4 stars.
On DVD: John Carter. Based mostly on ERB's A Princess of Mars, the film hits enough story elements to be familiar to anyone who's read the book. As science fiction or fantasy, it fails miserably, once example being that everyone on the planet is armed with energy weapons using a source of energy that they're still trying to discover ...
While you're digesting that, I'll say something equally surprising: I had fun watching the movie. It's goofy, popcorn fun. It's Revenge of the Jedi with tharks instead of ewoks. It didn't make Jedi money (in fact, it tanked) but it was sold as something it wasn't (as was Inner Space if you can recall that Spielberg flop).
If you can laugh at the destruction of good source material, it's a funny popcorn flick you probably won't regret watching. It's what you'd expect from Disneyfying one of fantasy's greatest stories ...
For some reason the second time I watched it the pacing felt different for me, but this time it was back to the slow and excellent pacing I remembered from the theater.
Just a good movie.

Saw "End of Watch" last week (my girlfriend worked on the movie, so we went to a cast and crew screening).
I was really pretty surprised. Considering how small the budget was, it felt like a big time studio flick. Fast paced and intense, it wasn't the most cerebral movie, but it had me entertained. It's a combination of "found footage" shots with normal footage, but it blends together really well, and helps convey the frantic/confusing/scary world that cops face on a daily basis (especially in south central LA). Almost like the TV show COPs mixed with a dash of a first person shooter video game. I'd definitely check it out if you're looking for a good, gritty, cop movie.
Just saw Dredd. I might be a biased 90's kid, but it was better than I expected. If you go in wanting to see excessive use of explosions, you'll have a good time. If you expect Oscar worthy acting, well, why are you going to see a Judge Dredd movie? If you liked Lionsgate's treatment of Punisher, you're going to love this movie. Lots of phantom camera use (large plot point invloves a narcotic that slows time). I didn't see it in 3D, but it definetly had lots of scenes that were shot for 3D. Don't take the kids to see this one.
