Have we done a deep dive into the Judgment Night soundtrack? A weirdly specific rock-rap duet album that is better than the movie it supports? I loved this for following the Anthrax/Public Enemy model of teaming up heavy guitar bands with legit rap artists.
Just realized why any discussion (including my own) of why Taylor Swift is Time Magazine’s 2023 Person Of The Year is probably a little silly. Last night Jimmy Kimmel said (roughly):
“Time Magazine decided that this year they wanted to sell a lot of magazines”.
Okay, I'm just gonna come out and say this. I'm kind of reluctant to continue to post here because too many too many of you seem to be locked into metal and to hell with any other genres. I love metal too. I was practically there when the genre debuted but there's other music out there and if you can't wrap your heads around that you might want to stop complaining about people who aren't totally into your music brand if you're not willing to embrace theirs. It's always been my view that rock music was about open minds so I'm asking that you keep an open mind when the music isn't as metal as you might prefer.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I've heard System Of A Down mentioned a few times recently, and think I heard one song (Chop Suey!), but never really paid attention to any of their other music. Really think that song was a bit average. Listened a bit tonight, and think I like both of these a lot more. Maybe more progressive? Each reminds me of other bands without plagiarism.
LONELY DAY (System Of A Down)- Sympathizes with having a bad day without trying to resolve anything for you, which I think is great. Everyone has one occasionally. Sounds a bit like a Green Day song.

Good stuff. Reminds me that I have bands I've been meaning to look at more like Aztec Camera and Arctic Monkeys.
I want to address my little rant of the other day. I was a few beers in that night and had been listening to Grand Funk and I was getting steamed about how Grand Funk will never be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they're not money for the powers that be right now. So, I slipped into a side rant that made too big a deal about your tastes in music when what I was really burning about was the establishment which has been a thorn in my side all my life. So don't get too reluctant your penchant for metal. If that's your thing go for it. It would be nice to see you branch out. It's a whole wide world out there and I've spent the last 68 years learning that very thing. So, post what you want and don't let me constrain you. I like metal too, but I equate it with a food item. You don't to eat the same thing everyday.

Sorry but these guys rock and should be recognized for it.

In 1970 I bought the Grand Funk Railroad Red Album (self-titled) in a Singer Sewing Machine store. Back then, you could buy records everywhere- department stores, pharmacies, gas stations, record stores. and one of the better places was actually that sewing machine and fabric store. Me and my lifelong friend (now a retired federal agent) skipped school that day and GFR was our reward. I still sometimes wear my Grand Funk t-shirt.
After Grand Funk broke up, I saw Mark Farner at a local club. This was after he became a Christian and refused to do some songs. He would still do Grand Funk songs but wouldn't do any that referred to drugs. It was still a fun show for maybe 100 people. I particularly remember because my sister was with our group and a drunk kept moving in on her physically. I reached around her and gently moved him away. Each time he returned, I pushed a little more firmly. After four or five times, I finally shoved him hard enough that he fell down. He immediately jumped up and came after me. I guess the bouncers had been watching because they swarmed him before he reached me and removed him. When leaving the show, he was waiting for us outside. Because I was into martial arts by that time my sister told me to "kick his ass", but I asked her to chill. I faced him, but turned out he was there to apologize and that's what he did. Best ending ever.
Did not know "Inside Looking Out" was a cover of a song by the Animals. Pleasant surprise.
