I think Void Sentry will win consistently until somebody devises a (currently underused) strategy to take care of them. Then they will drop off in popularity.
No support isn't that big a deal. Lots of teams do well without it.
For the first time, I'm actually leaning towards the "no formula" side.
Will S/V bring Galactus out of the woodwork? If he wants to double-attack, he's getting off of his HSS clicks, and is still in Galactus range.
I've got a few ideas on how to try and topple S/V:
-Mystics (duh!) w/ Wildcard abuse
-Stealth
and, a fun one that I wanna try out in 300 pts:
GG rare Dr Strange 196
IG 40
4 Astral Dr Strange 014b (for the willpower)
First turn, free move the Astrals, and pump one more out w/ strange. Take click of damage to keep dial on top click
S/V willprobably kill one Astral, maybe two.
Strange's next turn:
Free move astrals, and then move action them to attempt to get adjacent. By this point I'm sure you guys see the plan...
You have to rush S/V with this team, but I'd like to try it.
And I'm fully aware that it doesn't beat lots of teams. This was a pure hate idea.
Since you didn't mention it specifically, 300 Galactus is Mystics.
I believe there is a point formula but there is no kicker for certain combinations. The HSS on a figure with flight + Power Cosmic should be more expensive than HSS on a boot figure that has no TA and will take pushing damage and is susceptible to Outwit - but it's not.
It's really up to WK design to make dials that are balanced for the game.
That being said, I'm not 100% sold on this guy being "unbeatable". He does not have any support powers and has a relatively average movement. Superman has a higher attack, movement and damage potential on one attack with super-strength.
And I'll have to research it further but I was under the impression you couldn't use the same power twice from a free action. If that is not the case then WK needs to take Multi-Attack down a notch and make it subject to this rule at least for consistency sake.
As a player who does not like to use keyword theme teams I know how problematic probability control, especially free PC can be. This could be a problem for the S/V.
Other potential options for dealing with him:
Victoria Hand - if you can protect her she will give your team an opportunity.
The Runner - he has like a 17 speed plus 12 attack vs S/ V with EW. Not too shabby.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

Agreed.

By "support" we're talking Perplex, Outwit, and Prob. I say that because has there been a team that has done well that didn't have ANY of those powers? Metron had all of them and is a HUGE reason why he did well.
Just as an aside, the ability to change S/V into the Void if he should get beaten down is another incredible aspect of this figure. He gains SC, Stealth, Steal Energy and Regen AND if you do enough damage to KO him he just turns back into S/V on his own regen click.

Runner is an interesting option. The assumption is two AIM Agents with runner having the gem attached. Runner gets his defense perplexed up, and gets into position to be 17 squares away, so S&V only get one attack in, if they want to make the 1st attack. Agents(whatever) in the back behind runner.
It would be a Runner 12AV versus S&V 18D and S&V 11AV versus Runner's 20/21D.
If runner hits 1st, he would put S&V on click #4 and be sitting right next to him. Runner would then have to survive two 11AV attacks against his perplexed up 20 defense.

Odin won Origins with very little in the way of support powers. Imperienx has been doing well (if not top tier) in meta with little in the way of support powers. I've been beating the snot out of peoplep with Supergirl/Beast Boy with nothing but theme prob and Outsiders for support.

multi attack specifically states that you can use the same power twice using multi attack...

I thought of it after hitting post but some ability to heal is another power that often shows up.
Odin is 250. What else was with him? Also, he does have the ability to heal and has some Perplex, Prob and Outwit.
Imperiex has starting Outwit and ending Perplex. Its what saved his ### against me when I last played against one.
Supergirl / Beast Boy brings the Prob, as you said. Also, Outsiders is really a modified version of Outwit / Perplex.
Odin is the most comparative since his support powers are minimal although that healing ability heals him to them every time. If he was run with the Gauntlet then he has a whole host of supportive help with that idiotic Soul Gem.
S/V will have none of those except regen on his last click. I think he will be heavily reliant on dice rolls and in a multi-game event (especially over 3 rounds) the dice eventually go cold at some point. Unless there is half a dozen or more being played (and there very well could be) I'm not sold on this guy yet but this week we'll be seeing him in action.
Of course I think Maelstrom + Gauntlet is gonna be a contender so who knows...

...except he can swap into sentry/void too, so once he gets past click 2, swap out into either of those two, and attack (with sentry) or heal with void.
once that figure is ko'd, back comes SaV
even better, once he's got no tokens on him, he can multi attack to make an attack/move/whichever, and then use the second action to switch (since he still has no tokens on him) once positioned
the more i talk it through, the more bad### i realize he is...
