My greatest issue with the army is the Balac's shallow dials... I'd almost reccomend that you ditch the SS SFT toward Mechanical Repair on the T. Fox. That would let you take the Balacs Shiro-hunting, let 'em take a hit from the aformentioned determined ATVs, and then scamper home for some fixin'.
The SS/SH Alliance is a very interesting idea with the Balacs, though. I do applaud the ingenuity. Maybe the BR/SS Alliance would be even better?
Is this thread still going? Oh Man that means I'm still an official reviewer. Darn it.
Personally I quite like the Balacs. As I recall they have a fairly decent range. :) Oh and a nice dial. Easy repair.
So yes, I'd go with Trev's suggestion (BR/SSw alliance). My only bugbear is the addition of that repair marker after all the DFlovers nerfed my chopper. Just cos it could recover from their darned Maxim/Schmitt drop. :)
It being unrestricted. Kenny. Infiltrate. Free repair. J-37 Recovery Vehicles Woohoo. Nuff said.
Ok guys, please tell out of these three armies which one would be the most effective for the September storyline. The story line rules are: Half of your force must be made of one faction, or units without the faction symbol. Players may only place blocking terrain in the terrain pile. Active Volcanos is always in effect.
So, here are the three armies.
Army1
Chikako=211
Gabriel Smith=62(recruit CJF)
EC=22
x1 SW A4=49
x1 HL Hadur=48
x1 JF Goshawk=130
x1 Sakhara Grad.=14
x1 Mechanical Repair=17
x2 Liao ATVs=24
x1 BR Fa Shih=23
Total is 600 points.
Army2
Blackrose=253
Enrico Fernali=63(recruit to CJF)
EC=22
CJF Goshawk=130
x1 Tamar Grad.=10
x1 SW A4=49
x1 HL Hadur=48
x1 SH Fenrir=17
x1 SH ATV=8
Total is 600 points.
Chikako=211
Gabriel Smith=62(recruit CJF)
EC=22
x1 SW A4=49
x1 HL Hadur=48
x1 JF Goshawk=130
x1 Sakhara Grad.=14
x1 Mechanical Repair=17
x2 Liao ATVs=24
x1 BR Fa Shih=23
Total is 600 points.
No faction = 211
Wolf = 49
Highlander = 48
Jade Falcon = 130
Liao = 24
Bannsons = 23
Units = 485, legal qualification = 243
So that isn't a legal force. Half your build total of UNITS ONLY must be from one faction (or have no faction symbol).

This one isn't. Units = 525. No one faction exceeds 263.
Note that the check takes place prior to preparing the battlefield. Pilots don't go into their 'Mechs until after mercenary contracts are played, which is after planetary conditions, which is after terrain. Hence since the test is before all of that Chikako has no faction.
To get around it you need to field some merc units.
So of the three armies? I'd take army 2. That's the best because that's the only one that won't get you disqualified.
3 points shy, but you cant have it all I guess. However that said, I work it as an inyour face force, and the realy beauty lies in the fact that Mr. Raptis can shoot out of and into combat with no penalty.
2 Pulsing mechs makes short work of the enemy when using a RCO for the initiall strike.
Very order intensive yes. that said plenty of options for me too :)
Audrey/Raptis/Extra Ammo 224
:^^: Liao Zahn 32
:^: ROTS Kelswa Assault Tank 96
2x :^^: Highlander Fenrir BA 17 x 2
1x :^^: Bannsons Oni 20 (excellent suggestion, Xtatika)
HL :^^^: PDS 82
5x :^^: HL ATV's 60
1x Killer Clowns Combat Engineers 12
ROTS/Liao SA 40
Total: 600
Reason I suggest this is that despite the presence of the Paladin and the infantry you are somewhat vulnerable to opposing infantry, particularly fast ones and armoured ones. Both the Hellion and Audrey are very similar (fast, lowish damage, pulse) so dropping one and replacing it with something with a different application increases your build's versatility. At the expense of mobility I know.
Sticking in the Kelswa gives you a tank drop option to hurt infantry or RHDM. The beauty of the SA card is that it allows you to drop anywhere and not have to worry about LOF.

This one's legal:
Jade Falcon = 383 > 505/2

So wait, you are saying that even though I recruited Gabriel Smith to BR or CJF, it doesnt count for the mech? I am confused. :dissapoin

Best army on your list, but if Kotch is right then it isn't legal. Replace the Liao ATVs and the Fa Shih with Miko's Blades Ichi, Ni, and Yoh. You will be one point under on your total, but it will be legal. I really like Chikako for this scenario, and the Goshawk and artillery are great support. Good luck.
"Prior to deployment" Chikako doesnt have a pilot in it. Pilots get put in just before deployment.
Hence for the purposes of the test, he's "no faction". That's because he isn't recruited until the pilot goes in.
This also applies to Merc Contracts. At the time of the test the contract isn't in play. Hence all mercs are "no faction" at the time of the test, despite that you paid points for the contract.
There is a very lengthy Thread on this in the BM forum. Basically I put this up as the impact of the scenario, nobody believed me and Kelly came in and confirmed that this is how it is supposed to work!!
A LOT of BMs are misinterpreting this build restriction, however, so check with your BM ahead of time or else build a "safe" force that cannot be misinterpreted.
So just to clarify: "Units Only" for storyline include NO CECs at all? No gear, no pilots, no nothing?
Also, When it states that half of your units must be of a single faction or no faction (ie Merc); this means you must have either half faction pure or half merc force? My venue has been reading it that it is okay to have half your force a combination of merc and faction pure units.
For example: In a 600pt army, lets say I have 100pts worth of pilot, gear, and a Faction pride card. Of the 500 points of units in the army, a have 200 points worth of Steiner, 100 points of Stormhammers, and a 200 point gunslinger mech (no faction).
If I read you correctly... This is not a legal army?

Units are defined in the rulebook as physical units - this does not include CECs.
And no, the Steiner/SH/gunslinger army you listed is not legal. At least half of the physical units must have the same faction symbol. Those three groups do not (at least, not yet).
