Not so much as to find the answer to the question as to find an actor from the 30's with the first name Kent. It was a name recognition thing.
I would never look up Superman or Siegle and try to find the answer that way.
I've heard the name before, I just couldn't come up with anything other than Kent Nelson.
But when a simple "Kent" search on imdb proved fruitless. I didn't go any further since it wasn't anything I wanted to research.
Peps, in general it is frowned upon researching the answers. If you need to pull a comic that you own to verify information that's ok. But going to google and doing a search on the origins of Clark Kent's name is not appreciated by some of the more Sage of our participants.
Don't go too hard on the new guy, CuCr or JTR.

why cant we look it up? not everyone has a huge collection of comics to look through...besides that answer wouldnt even be in a comic...
In the case of that question, I had read the interview in a mag some time ago. That was about the time the new lawsuit was forming about the rights to the SuperBoy character.
And now that Clark Gable has been given, I can tell the Star Trek story. In the classic episode "City on the Edge of Forever", when Kirk & Co. go back to 1930 New York, the character Edith Keeler says she is going to see a "Clark Gable movie". In our timeline, Clark Gable had never been anything more than an extra by 1930. Of course, we now know Star Trek must take place in an alternate timeline (because 1996 has come and gone and there was no eugenics war).
City on the Edge of Forever (despite claiming to be 1930 - more like the 1930s) takes place after Roosevelt is President (1932). If that's the case, he's a huge star with Carole Lombard (No Man of Her Own) and Norma Shearer (Strange Interlude) both in 1932. Remember - FDR actually is sworn in as President in Jan. 1933.
Later than that, Gable is the biggest leading man in Hollywood, ...It Happened One Night (1934), The Call of the Wild (1935), Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and this low-grade B movie called Gone with the Wind (1939).....

Ugh. I still can't stand that movie. Tho the remake coming out starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sounds interesting. Tho, the remake of Casablanca with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes sounds even better.

CuCr must've read that about Brad and Angelina and couldn't post. All he could do was curl up in a fetal position and cry. It may be a few hours before he's capable of posting.

I don't recall any reference to President Roosevelt in City, but it has been years since I've seen it.
When the villain later known as Mr. Freeze first fought Batman and Robin, he used a different costumed identity. What was it?
Mr Blackwell, and his weapon was pointing out to Batman that those shoes did not go with that outfit. He made Robin cry once with comments about those pixie boots being "less then darling".
