Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. It was a fun action movie with a wry sense of humor. Probably made the critics roll their eyes, but I'm a fan of schlocky movies that know what they are and make the most of it.
Just got back from watching MOMS NIGHT OUT at theatre. IT WAS HILARIOUS, if you have ever been around the raising of kids....you will laugh till you cry. Pay no attention to what folks may say about it being a "Christian" movie...this flick was a hoot!
Saw Godzilla. It's funny that none of the Filipinos in the movie looked like Filipinos. I did enjoy the movie, the only thing that I would change is more monster fight and that it was done in daytime not in the night. And I also liked that Godzilla got his "hero" status back.
They concentrated more on the "Human Drama" of a monster attack, something I've been calling for for awhile, but when I actually got it...meh, I'd prefer more Kaiju action.
I liked the premise of no children being born anymore.
And then there were eighty minutes of people trying to kill each other for no reason I could make out.

Whoever had the only pregnant woman on earth could (maybe) figure out why/how and replicate it. Suddenly, this isn't the last generation of (insert nationality).
I liked it. Gritty and dark as it gets, but well made.

Children of Men probably my favorite Sci-Fi movie since 2000, just think of the the baby as The Spice from Dune. So he who controls the Baby, controls the universe. THE BABY MUST FLOW, doesn't work as well.
Because I'm poor atm and can't watch Godzilla I went on a little SciFi Netflix Bender, I started out with the movie Monster, directed by the guy who directed Godzilla.
Solid, small budget monster flick. They did a good job of using tricks to hide their lack of money, grainy military footage and night vision, the Monsters were nocturnal, never showing the whole thing at once, always focusing on the two people instead of the action. Rather enjoyed it.
From there watched Europa Report, I kind of liked it, but it's message was kind of lame.
Then Doomsday Book, funny little Korean movie that has 3 end of the world scenarios, with the last one being rather entertaining.
Finally Hell. German movie about Solar flares storms bringing about the end of civilization, another enjoyable Post Apocalypse movie, felt a lot like the Road but with more upbeat cannibalism.
Overall I found it too wordy. Maybe it was a big let down for me after Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Too much teenage angst. I don't know, it wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't great. Just average.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
I fell asleep during the 2nd act sometime — was running on a bit too little rest. Woke up for the 3rd act on through to the end.
It was an interesting...re-imagining of the Genesis account. I kinda disliked some of the liberties it took with scripture to tell its own story.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
The conclusion Noah comes to after his visions of God's impending destruction of the world is that only the innocent animals are to be saved and man is to be utterly annihilated. That means his sons and his daughter-in-law, who's barren, are to live out their lives after the ark lands, and the time of men will be done.
Trouble ensues when it's learned that somehow the daughter-in-law turns out NOT to be barren.
It's a way darker story than the Genesis version, which is pretty dark already. I mean, consider this:
"The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time." — Genesis 6:5
That sounds like absolute hell on Earth; a world were rape and murder is as common as f-bombs in a Tarantino flick, one that makes the atrocities of the 20th century look like kindergarten squabbles. So the changes seemed unnecessary to me.
But as a person of the Christian faith, I took Aranofsky's version this way: as a possible look at how that period in history might have looked, REALLY looked, before the tale got sanitized for Sunday School lessons.
I really dig unsanitized portrayals of biblical stories.
Money shot well worth the price of admission at the 2nd-run theater I saw it at: A pan-out long shot of the whole globe completely covered in storm clouds.
God is smarter than we are....
