I never thought about it before, but it is kind of odd that he didn't draft any bad guys to compete in the contest. I mean, it was supposed to be about strength, not morality. Where were Abomination, Rhino, Juggernaut, etc?
That also struck me as odd when I recently re-read this book (Marvel 2-in-1 Annual #7, I think). Juggernaut in particular would have fit in better than say, Leonard Samson (who, BTW, got beaten up by the Champion's training equipment and had to be sent home without so much as sniffing an actual fist).

So... he's picky. Well, actually, Abomination aside, Rhino isn't all that powerful and he uses armor, and Juggy, while powerful, also wears armor and for a time had "magical" protection. So, Rhino and Juggy could be viewed as tool users.
In the matches, Champion put all his opponents in traditional boxing gear, so Juggie's armor wouldn't have been an issue...he's quite tough without it...he has beaten Colossus and the Hulk while wearing street clothes, IIRC.
Here's a bit of trivia free of charge ( I'm sure I'm not the first person to notice this).
In his first 11 appearances including AF#15 and ASM#1-10, every one of Spidey's issues had him facing an enemy who wore green.
(Except for the Lizard and the Living Brain, who WERE green).
And technically Doc Ock wore laboratory whites in their first battle, but he was dressed all in green on the cover, and in the rematch.
So, who was Spidey's first non-green villain?
