Echo is very difficult to master, the other 3 a bit less so.
I have so far not been very successful with any if them.
I've only played the named pilot who does NOT do the curved 2 move after decloaking.
Probably my lack of L338 SKILLZ, but I can never get it in a position than would enable me to PWN NOOBZ after decloaking without immediately getting counter-PWNED after the attack.

Yeah, so far the Phantom for me has been a glass cannon for the points.
I am concentrating on better moving a swarm of TIEs.
I can barely keep a 3 ship rebel build from crashing into each other every turn.

I'll be sure to not equip assault missiles or flechette torpedoes when facing your TIE swarm, or if I do, I'll forget to target lock or knock the card off the table and forget I have it.
Again, I have yet to encounter anything in X-wing where I felt the game was unbalanced to the point that I was screwed before the dice hit the table, ala Heroclix.
Souped up Falcons can go down to a TIE swarm if they cant overcome all those attack dice with maneuvers and luck.
and don't fly off the map.
Oh, I know. I got to use a souped-up Millenium Falcon, and I got absolutely destroyed by two B-Wings. It was gross. Then again, I also appear to be really bad at rolling the dice anyways, so it didn't matter that he was ignoring my defenses.

B-Wings are brutal which is why that's all Bud plays.
