Musicians of this thread. I was out shopping for my birthday at 2nd and Charles and they had this bass that caught my eye. While a bass is not needed and just something to poke around on I was curious on your thoughts on whether it was a reputable brand. I have never heard of Traben. IT looks real nice though. No, I would not be buying the one that I have linked here, just a picture and info for reference.

best comment: Traben basses were great when the company first started (American Made)...Some models were still great after the buyout (Korean Made)...until production shifted to Vietnam...If the bass in question is a Korean model...I say go for it...If it's built in Vietnam pass!
I don't think they're in business anymore. I can't get to their website because of virus warnings.
Last Saturday, I drove an hour to Doylestown, PA and went to a Kieth Haring pop art exhibit. Radiant Baby, Barking Dog, Flying Saucers, and Large Hearts are just some of his more recognizable subway art. He was born in Reading, which is where I went to high school, (class of 1990 represent!), more than likely because Reading has the closest hospital to Kutztown where he grew up and lived, until he moved to New York and got famous. Of course being friends with Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat didn't hurt either.

Yes, they are out of business. I did not get any serial numbers to check on where it was made. I would have to drive out 45+ minutes to check on it again.
The plus side is that I have store credit for the store so I would be paying about $300 for it.

What do you mean it felt cheap? The one thing I did like was the neck. Since my hands are not that large a narrower neck appeals to me.
The fit and finish were slipshod. Frets extended too far off the edges of the fretboard. Pots felt gritty when turned. The tuning keys slipped and were second rate. I wasn't a fan of the crazy bridge, all those points projecting from it wanted to catch on stuff.
The neck on the one I played wasn't that narrow. it was like a Louisville slugger.

If you like narrower necks, I highly recommend the Ibanez SR series.

Maybe I just got ahold of a bad example.
OK that sounds like a crap bass. This one did not have those problems except the pots thing. I have no idea what that is.
