I forgot how quick people are to judge others opinions around here... It feels hostile in here..
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't judging others' opinions. I'd be lying if I said that I even half believe that "I have to go to any and all means to win this miniatures game" was a reasonable opinion. Hostile? Maybe. But to be fair, it's not entirely unprovoked.

Its just ironic the people that claim its just a game/wining dosnt matter group are the ones judging actions in said game with hostility and attacking the other persons ethical and moral dignity with out true cause. Cats can be skinned many ways, yours isnt the only way, but it works best for you.
Mind you, I dont take it to heart as I am not the things you dispise. I just hate the line in the sand people make and are easy to yell at those that dont stay behind it. After all its just a game.
Read it for the facts presented, not the author's obvious vitriol. She goes a little over the top for my tastes. I like to approach subjects like this with less emotion and more objectivity.
But, if I remember, she's a mother and it's part of what inspired her to do this. She sees society's misguided attempts to empower women hurting her children and a mother's reaction is almost always going to be emotionally fueled.
But some of the facts in the book are fantastic and so are some of the anecdotes that are related.
I think worlds level play is a very different game. There actually is something of import on the line. Now, I'd prefer to see people try to counter Metron instead of just playing him again, but I'm not going to fault them for playing him. I'm just not going to play against them.
I won't lie-- if I had predicted the metagame better, I would have played Metron/NC as well. But I prefer something original as it has the element of surprise (and my team benefitted from that a lot).
But the F Fellowship is really insulting-- for one thing, it's saying that they think playing to win isn't cause for fellowship. Thankfully, I didn;t play against anybody who was like that-- competitive, but not jerks about it.

Agreed. But keep in mind that this isn't the first or second or third or fiftieth time any of us have had this argument. I can't speak for anyone else, but once a substantial amount of my frustration comes from the fact that I've had this argument a hundred times and have never gotten anywhere. I'm ready to be done.
But yes, it is just a game. That's the core of the argument. I don't want people who can't see the game as a game in my game. If someone is going to drag everyone down with their insistence on making the game deadly serious, I think it's better off with them somewhere else. That's the thing about the "Playing To Win" (as opposed to "playing to win") philosophy: The central point of it is to deny others of enjoyment. It's basically real life trolling, and I am not okay with that.

Not sure if any of you are interested, but Stan is running a Street Fighter mafia game, it hasn't started yet but Rokk has gotten ill and he needs a replacement for him. I am going to be playing in it and just wanted to see if any of you might want to play in it as well I usually just play minimalist, maybe 2 or 3 posts a day and get actions in. Seems less stressful to me plus doesn't make me feel vested in the game so if I get killed or lynched for some stupid reason then *shrugs* whatever.

You're bound to play against Metron at some point (assuming I ever make it to a clix game again [arrrrrh!]).
But, ya know, he's not as scary when he's teamed up with his buddy Doc Manhattan.

I didn't feel any hostility. I thought we were just discussing things. Has it been coming off as judgemental? I was just trying to offer my opinions. I felt that others were too. It is fine for anybody to have a different perspective than I do. I am just as much wrong as I am right since all I'm offering is an opinion.

The best games, for me, are competitive where both players are on top of their game, but not taking it "deadly seriously." My crew is like that. Good, but not cutthroat.

I like a good meta, "Worlds level" game occasionally. It's legitimately enjoyable for me if I don't overdo it. It gets boring fast, though, because by definition it's an extremely narrow environment. There's a time and a place for it, and there's never a time and a place for acting like a dick because you're playing broken figures.

It is insinuated that if you have any competitive bone in your body your out of the fellowship running. Ive played at some places that just give it to the worse players there so they get something for attending and trying, to me that dosnt fit fellowship either.
