I can't stand Tom Cruise. I'm actually grumpy that it's getting such good reviews. I was hoping for one more box office bust for him.
You might be in luck. It's been tracking pretty poorly, and "The Fault in our Stars" is tracking very well. I wouldn't be surprised if Edge didn't make its money back.
Weekend Projections (from BoxOfficeMojo)
1. Fault in Our Stars - $58 million
2. Maleficent - $33 million
3. Edge of Tomorrow - $29.5 million
4. X-Men - $15 million

That's not really indicative of whether a movie might do well overall. Teenie-Bopper Cancer Story based on a book will likely always beat the Sci-Fi/Action Flick, unless it's something super established like Star Trek.
I've wanted to watch Edge of Tomorrow for a while now, but now that it's hear I kinda just want to skip it. How to Train Your Dragon 2 seems like a much better view next week.

Disagree. Opening weekend is usually a very good indicator of whether or not a movie will do well. "Teenie Bopper Cancer Story" has a much smaller demo than a "big budget action flick w/ Tom Cruise". You could also argue that Malificent shares some of the same demo as "FioS", and despite already being out a week, is also trending better than Edge. No matter how you slice it, it's looking bad for Edge.
Ir's incredibly rare for a movie to do better in weekends beyond opening weekend, and movies almost always have diminishing returns (due to new releases, the majority of fans seeing it ASAP, negative word of mouth, etc). Sci-Fi action movies usually make a majority of their money on the international market (aka China), so it could rebound there. However, for a massive sci-fi action movie, with one of the most famous movie stars of our time, to get absolutely crushed domestically on opening weekend by a movie with less than a tenth of the budget (FioS cost $12 mil while Edge cost $175 mil... and that doesn't include marketing which for Edge is probably another 20-40 mil)? That's not something you want as a studio head.
I personally don't care about what people say about Tom Cruise but I've enjoyed his past movies and however it performed in the Box Office, I thoroughly enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow.

And that's fine. Good for you and people that went to see it, even. I'm just not a fan.

Not impressed.
It's Groundhog Day - with guns.
And average effects. Nor do we really get to see Cuise get killed in entertainingly grusome ways.
Worse: its got none of the humor etc that Bill Murray & andy mcdowell provided in their version (I know, I know - EoT is not a comedy. It's a mediocre PG13 Sci Fi flick....but still....)
I don't like Cruise, either. Tired of him always playing The Most Awesome Guy In The Room™ no matter what film he's in. It must be in his contract or something. But that hasn't stopped the last three films I've seen him star in (Ghost Protocol, Jack Reacher and now Edge of Tomorrow) from being great entertainment.
It was co-star Emily Blunt and director Doug Liman who were the actual draws to EoT, though, for me.

It's a WWII movie, but with the sci-fi Groundhog Day angle.

Well whatever it was the effect was that I spent most of the film wishing I was watching something else.
As for cruise? I like him. Always have. I just don't like about 50% of what he's been in.
Saw Now You See Me on cable. Starring Dr. Bruce Banner, Alfred Pennyworth, Lucius Fox, Mrs. Borat, guys from Zombieland and the Green Goblin's younger brother. It was pretty good, I didn't really tried to analyze it just simply watch it unfold... and pretty much enjoyed it.
watched never sleep again on Netflix last night...wow what a doc! I really didn't notice the gay undertones to Freddy's revenge at all until watching that documentary. love the insight to all the movies. God the new Nightmare on Elm Street Sucked looking back on the original's
