I have to admit for the first time I am looking forward to the whole set. All the Falcon stuff is workable if not OMG. The Nova Cat stuff looks good and Clan wolf just has cool Totem mechs. I for one am glad that I ordered a case. :devious:
Man am I happy with this set. I actually really like the design theme of the mechs. Even though I've liked the DFA JJ mechs, we finally have 'mechs more focused on what I believed CJF should have be like: Emphasis on speed and superior short ranged combat(see the TRO on the Night Gyr 3058 talking about the CJF's new emphasis on close ranged combat), less of an emphasis on melee combat. I so want to get the Vulture IV, Macat IV and Vixen.
With my love for Delta Galaxy I couldn't be ahapper with out new Mad Cat and Vulture from Wolf Strike. So here's my first offering of a Vulture centered army using only Delta galaxy units and an old favorite wingman.
Vulture Mk IV
>Aiko Ryohara
>Improved Targeting
Phoenix Hawk I
>Star Commander (BF)
>Improved Targeting
R10 Mechanized ICV
>3x Clan battle Armor
Kite Reconnaissance Vehicle
It has a lot of speed going for it and both mechs have good attacks with a solid punch. With proper placement of some blocking terrain I should be pretty well covered. The Vulture can move out in the open with its high defense while the PHK swings around the buildings covering it. The R10 provides a great sling shot of some nasty basers with great mobility. Then the Kite does what Kites do. What I like most about this army though is how hard it is to pin with everything breaking on a 2+ except the R10. It also has extremely good mobility and maneuverability with the all the jump jets and evade.
All the mechs from the CJF BF set aren't that easy to use but are workable, especially with some of the new gear thats available.
I use the Eyries basically to pull down damaged targets, the Gyrs to get the
1st hits in and the Shrikes to kill wounded units or pick apart units with a lower defense. The Shrikes are better used once you've engaged your opponent as their attacks and especially defense isn't that great.
Overall, my favs are the Gyrs. With the New ART V for mediums or IT for Mediums you either have additional firepower or accuracy.
Anyone else notice that the CJF MadCat doesn't have the 6 damage that is was supposed to have per the sneak peak on Wizkids it only has a 5? Not that this is an issue, I guess, cause 5 is still nice damage just not what was expected.

No it doesn't but also notice that it has a third click of evade that it didn't on the site. I've actually notcied this a lot going through my case. Quite a few of the point costs of the actual units are different than what the site said as well (M IT being 35 not 32 for another example). Still trading off that 1 damage on the first click for an extra click of evade is just fine in my book. I'm thinking of running this with Adam Stark and PPC Capacitor very soon. I should have quite a few armies to post here once I have time to process it all and get down to fitting them in with our other units.
We now have 3 very good heavies (I'll leave the Thor to 1 side...:disappoin ).
Question is, have either of the new arrivals seen off the Loki?
Loki - 220 points
5 pulse 0-12 (assault range 17")
5 ballistic 0-8
10 speed
10 AV
21 DV
15 clicks to kill
HS overload on 3rd
HS + crit S/D on 4th
Vent 3
Mad Cat - 236 points
5 energy 0-12 (assault range 16")
3 ballistic 0-8
8 speed + evade
10 AV
19(21) DV + decoy
15 clicks to kill
HS overload on 3rd
Shutdown and ammo on 4th
Shutdown and ammo on 4th
Vent 2
Vulture - 223 points
4 PPC Cap 0-12 (assault range 16")
3 ballistic 0-6
8 speed + evade
10AV
20 (22) DV + heavy armour
15 clicks to kill
HS and ammo on 3rd
HS, ammo and S/D on 4th
Vent 3
As good as the 2 new arrivals are, they each fail to match the Loki in most areas. The Loki's overall strength counts where it really matters (damage, attack, speed and heat management). It does give something to both the Mad Cat and the Vulture in defence, but if we wanted to wander around the battlefield with a RHDM, would wouldn't be playing CJF...
That said, both the Vulture and the Mad Cat are a class above the Thor and I would have to agree with a lot of the positive comments coming from this thread re our slice of Wlof Strike.
I have to agree. While I think the Mad cat and Vulture are excellent mechs and a nice alternative once and while the Loki still is my top pick for CJF heavies. It gets pretty much everything right and it's cheaper than both the Mk IVs. We may get good heavies in the future but I think they'd have a very hard time of topping the Loki for the position of best.
Oh and I forgot to mention that the Loki only has 3 damage ballistic at 0/6 and a 4 vent not 3.
