I'm with Jarimy on this. I'm actually glad that Mike went with something he enjoyed rather than the AEs. The AEs might have been fun, but not competitive at all and would have been easy points for people. Looking at the field, the AEs would have gotten slaughtered.
yeah the AEs would have been fun, but ultimately this was a guy who took a trip, rented a room, etc. so when it came down to playing AEs and having all the trip be just for getting annihilated...well I don't think anyone can give him grief for wanting to make a game of it rather than eating the beatstick over and over.
The ITALIAN guy used Johnny Quick *07, Ben used HSS (with SIF) 08 and Massu used HSS Shazam (with prob)10. HSS needs some nerf!
*sorry forgot his name
fify
Antonio (I played against him in the round of 16 - GenCon 07).
Bear in mind here that on the 07 team the real center piece was Stardust. Also you had extra PC with Johnny Quick (CSA).
But HSS Johnny Quick and (good use of BFCs) did allow him to dictate the pace and positioning of the game for Stardust to capitalize.

Totally agree, he agonized over the decision, and in the end made a valid choice, the teams played would have destroyed an all AE team. Mike did a great job and he deserves the best for a great attitude and many well played games...
I still beat you in the first round of Cap though...GO Hydra Officer...

Stalling is taking an excessively long time to make a move or take your actions. Running (i.e. staying out of your opponent's range.) is still a strategy.
This. I'd rather fight than run, too, but I'm gonna make the opponent work for those points unless I can snag some points of my own by standing my ground.

Yeah I would say at the elite level HSS is the best bargain under priced buy in the game. And its my personal belief that the unbalance occured when they dropped NAAT. Action After Taxi was a key component to the original pricing formula. The removal of such a core mechanic did exactly what was predicted a long time ago....that is elevate HSS and relegate non-move and attack pieces to the "koku" basement.

yes ...yes i can call it wrong. if my opponet runs ill be sure to ruthlessly dispatch his remaining figs
I didn't say you couldn't say it, I said you couldn't say it and be fair.
I your opponent starts using a tactic, it's totally fair for you to use that exact same tactic against him, and beat him with it. It's actually more than fair...it's poetic justice.

A valid tactic that I use and try to teach new players if a Firing Retreat. Instead of running forward with HSS and Running Shot, move further back. Regroup and bring them to you. Hard for some to understand.

I don't think anybody would have cared what team he used if he hadn't made such a big deal about using the AE's. I personally never thought he would use them to begin with, but why advertise it and ask for input if deep down you know you will never do it.

I actually did this to a dude a few years ago at Origins in some Planet Hulk event. In the semis, he got a point lead against some little kid, then retreated until the time ran out.
In the finals, I took my team all the way to his starting area where he was still hanging out halfway through the game. I knocked out a couple of his higher point figures, then did a full on retreat back to my side of the map, picking off some other weaker figure along the way before time was called.
I hated doing it, but at the same time, it felt pretty damn good.
