I heard more than one respected opinion that the T. Rex original of “Children Of The Revolution” was the “it”. Even with my lost causes I usually try to push back a bit, and looked at a few other covers. I knew the Scorpions version, but was a little surprised by Kesha and even someone called Baby Ford.

That last one took a moment to gel, but I now think that almost any serious version will be pretty decent. Marc Bolan created a song that may transcend genres.

I see that I had to reedit my above post because I linked Harvest Moon by Neil Young twice. That's been corrected and replaced by what I meant to post.

I know this will probably get me in trouble, but I've never really understood the reverence many seem to feel for KISS. One local music store has a center counter with displays on the four sides of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and KISS, so someone must be fans. I don't hate them, think they are OK, releasing a couple of anthem songs for football fans and such, but generally not in the same league as those other bands.

So Ace Frehley is scheduled to release a solo album, and his newer song, while not a masterpiece, seems as good as anything he did with KISS. I think, not sure, he even slipped in a Zemaitis guitar for some of the solo parts.

I definitely feel no reverence for KISS. My lack of interest doesn't derive from the costuming, or the makeup, or even the peculiarly vulgar way Gene Simmons treated Terry Gross. For me, there were both hard (or harder) core bands and more pop, progressive, and punk bands I thought were just "doing it better".

That being written... my curated list of six decades of rock & pop has five of their songs on it: Detroit Rock City, I Was Made For Lovin' You, Rock and Roll All Nite, Love Gun, and Beth.

For contrast: over those same six decades the list has seven Judas Priest singles on it.

Not too knocked out by that one but I do enjoy this Ace Frehley tune.

I'll put up another post for all my "night" songs since there are so many of them.

For me, this is why this thread was begun, to learn about music we've never heard before. I know Bruno Mars, All-American Rejects, and Evanescence a little, but don't know any of these songs and really enjoyed exploring them. They are a bit out of my normal wheelhouse and I think that is the point.

When exploring music, my main learning avenues are what friends listen to and what I find online. Perhaps a human algorithm and a couple of computer algorithms. In both cases, I learn music similar to what has gone before; a bit of an isolated universe in either case. Because there is a bit of diversity in tastes in this thread, I've learned about great songs from several genres that I never would have been able to enjoy otherwise. I appreciate that experience very much.

If anyone out there sees this, and hasn't joined us before, please consider educating us to what else may be out there.
