If all the figures from the DC Icons set will looks like this one.... this will be a really great set (sculpts wise).
When thinking about it : it seems normal to have good looking figures in a base set. After all when someone starts playing, he buy some starters and boosters from the base set. If this set has a great quality of figures, than it is a good way to attract and keep new players/collectors.
I cannot wait to see the new Swampthing figures from Icons.
There will be Swampthing no ?
As cool as that would be, I'm guessing not all the figures get a new sculpt. In fact, I'm wondering if the reason for the new sculpt here is because Icons will be like Universe - the set starter figures will have "special" versions with new sculpts but otherwise all the other figures will have the old sculpts. I.E.: I'm gambling that Rookie Batman there is one of the Starter figures.

Well the blurb for the Icon set reads:
"The set includes favorite characters like Superman and Batman, and popular teams like the JLA and Titans." DC HeroClix: Icons features all-new sculptures and statistics for these figures, offering new and existing players alike a powerful and fun series to collect.
So it implies that many if not all of the figures will get new sculpts.

True, but didn't they do a similar blurb/impression initially with Universe?

In case anyone was wanting it, here is what they said when Universe was announced.
Collector's Information
This set includes 120 figures from the Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge and Xplosion expansions. The Marvel HeroClix Universe starter will contain Spider-Man™, Elektra™, Hobgoblin™, Woverine™, Sabretooth™, and Wasp™. These six fan favorites feature new, updated statistics and are only available in the Marvel HeroClix Universe Starter Set.
Game Features
Marvel HeroClix Universe starters contain an updated Marvel HeroClix rule book and Powers and ability card. The figures included in the Universe starter are predesigned to create two 100 point teams, perfect for quick play! The figures in this set have a new expansion symbol. The other 120 figures in this set contain the same stats as their Infinity Challenge and Xplosion counterparts.
This is a very nice sculpt indeed. The one thing I am surprised at is that no one seems to recognize the inspiration for the sculpt...Jim Lee's Batman cover (#608 I think). It is the same, gargoyle and all! I think that is cool!
I would not be surprised if the new Superman sculpt is also on a gargoyle. Jim Lee did that cover to start off his Superman run with Brian Azzerello.

Would be interesting to know the ration of reprinted to all new figures.
I talked to the proprietor of my local comic book store today about this. He says he is getting a lot of 150 figures. He says he will be putting one in each of his "pulls" customer's bags, which is about 130. So that leaves only about 20 figs for general distribution. I don't know how he is going to handle that (didn't ask since I have a pull list).
So anyone who is not a regular customer somewhere who wants one of these figs might want to check with a shop to see how they can get one on FCBD.(Fangs/Claws/Blades Day, erh, Field Condition Battle Day, No, I mean Free Comic Book Day. Yeah, that's right.)
It may have been inspired by Jim Lee's cover, but you'll notice they used the yellow and black logo so that they don't have to pay Mr. Lee any royalties for using his image (All of Jim Lee's Batman images have the plain black bat.)
Order 66 - It's not just policy, it's fun, too!
