Think of it this way: if, at any point during an action, before the action is resolved, something happens/will happen to make it so that you can no longer make that action, then you can't even begin that action. The movement and the close combat attack are all part of the same action, and thus, because the object would bring the damage value over 2, and therefore make the action illegal, the entire action is invalid and impossible.
The only exceptions I can think of are where it's possible, but not automatic, that the action cannot be completed (Shape Change, the Entangle feat, KC/Hypertime TA). Those situations have their own, pre-written rules about how actions will resolve when they come into play and are "successful".
...and I probably just made a simple situation unnecessarily complicated, but it's late, I'm tired, and that's the best reasoning I can come up with for the way it works.
"Using Objects in a Close Combat Attack
A character holding an object and making a close
combat attack must use the object in the attack, as
shown in Figure 20, unless the character is using a
power that will deal 0 or no damage. If a character is
using a light object in a close combat attack, modify
the character’s damage value by +1 for the attack. If
a character is using a heavy object in a close combat
attack, modify the character’s damage value by +2
for the attack." pg 37 LOSH
Pounce states it is a power action that allows you to move your character their full movement value and THEN make a close combat attack as a free action in which values are being modified. So in this sense an object is a modifier.
Pounce also has it's own modifier and it increases the damage of the target. If the character were to use Pounce and their damage value is two does it then mean that the character no longer applies for the prerequisite since Pounce changes their damage to 3?
Since that is not the case, the the object modifer itself, in my opinion, should be applicable to the feat and subject to the rule of 3 because it is a stat modifier.
Now w/ the new object ruling, having something to do w/ damage dealt (I forget the exact wording), will this also effect power dampening field?
I don't know about the 3-D objects (because I never really played them), you used to be able to hit for your max 3 & then add an additional 1 (for the light) or 2 (for the heavy).
Power Dampening field applies to damage value not damage dealt. So yes it will have an affect on most standard objects but not inclusive of 3D objects that modify damage dealt.

So hang on, if a 3d object's rules state that it modifies damage dealt (like the Soda Machine) that trumps the rulebook? Because if that's the case, you're going to see a LOT more Soda Machines on the board lol, especially in the case of Pouncers.
(...until they errata the Soda Machine of course )

As it stands now Pouncers cannot interact with objects AT ALL.

Incorrect.
A Pouncer with Super Strength and a 1 damage may still use a light object. And if that light object is the Mailbox they will get the additional +1 to damage dealt.
DV 1 +1 for the Light Object = 2, which still qualifies for Pounce. So next the +1 bonus for Pounce kicks in, raising your damage to 3. If you are using the Mailbox you then add in the +1 bonus to damage dealt, for a final total of 4 (barring bonuses for critical hits, knockback into walls or off of buildings).

Yeah sorry I guess I didn't articulate it as well as you did. I've just been spending most of my morning reading through it so many times that my mind is all jumbled together. So basically Pounce theoretically would only work with Superstrength if that character only has a 1 Damage value at the time with a light object.
I want a feat that allows me to use Bystanders as light objects. Anybody with me on this?

A looooooooong time ago , on the other forum, I made a scenario... i remember calling it Deadbodieseverywhere.
Characters with superstrength may choose to pick up characters(with a free attack roll ofcourse). I really enjoyed that scenario with my nephews. It was way Broken!
Maybe the 'grab roll' should have a -2 AV modifier.
KOd characters stay in the game as objects placed on where they were knocked out. Characters with INV/IMP count as heavy objects.

Me.
Additionally, since they nerfed pounce/superstrength, would anybody like to see a more expensive version that can be used regardless of damage value? I don't know how much it would cost, but I'd be willing to pay a fair amount...
Disregaurding the super strength issue, I am a huge fan of pounce, object usage or not, sure the SS change knocks it down some, but a 66 point vet doc ock with pounce is still a great thing to see, specialy with his willpower on the second click and perplex. I choose the oddest figures to put pounce on, mostly figures I think should have pounce as part of thier standard powers.
I am truly upset with the new ruling. Wizkids does nothing but make the High-Pointed Tentpole and HSS teams even more appetizing by neutering lower pointed figures that could make up well rounded TEAMS.
This is my main dislike with this as well, and is further aggravated by the return of fortitude, the spreading of the power cosmic, and many new figures featuring de-powered attributes.
