When I was buying them, though, there was never a single moment in any of the current runs on those titles that matched the excitement of the Engame storyline that is currently running in Blue Beetle. The fact that this comic, as good as it is, cannot crack the top 100 is as depressing a commentary on the state of American comics as I can think of.
With Rogers leaving the book and Pfeiffer taking it over, the next few months will be critical for the books future. A creative change with a book on the cusp means that DC's giving it a chance, but if the new writer can't rope in more readers, the book's days may be numbered.
With the exception of Countdown to Infinite Crisis, I'm not sure I recall any comic that featured a Blue Beetle as the lead character that was nearly as good as the last 5 issues of the current Blue Beetle comic.
The Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle comic book is better than every Ted Kord Blue Beetle comic book. Keep in mind that this statement is coming from a pretty big Ted Kord fan. Jaime Reyes is the Blue Beetle, and should continue to be so for many, many years to come.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
Well, I did stipulate comics that starred Blue Beetle as the lead. That would exclude those comics you mentioned.
Case REOPENED.
And the 2 Superbuddies books were something of a joke, as enjoyable as they were. Yes, they were good reading, with Ted Kord, but they were not about Blue Beetle. I loved Ted's portrayal in Countdown to Infinite Crisis, and I really didn't feel his death was completely unnecessary. I thought it was both meaningful and necessary as a starting point for Infinite Crisis. Countdown to Final Crisis has made it somewhat senseless, but if 52 was the end of the whole "Crisis" thing, than Ted Kord's death still would have been very meaningful.
Jamie Reyes is Blue Beetle, like Hatut said. He's got the power of the scarab that Kord could never master, but, as he shows in the latest issue, he doesn't need it, like Ted Kord didn't need it. And he asks himself when planning a course of action "What Would Ted Kord Do?" (WWTKD?). Because he respects that Ted was a great hero, and he wants to live up to that.
This isn't like Azrael replacing Batman, or Ben Reilly replacing Peter Parker. This is like Barry Allen following in Jay Garrick's footsteps, and Wally West following in Barry's.
So I'm going to ignore anyone who says "I don't like Blue Beetle because it's not Ted Kord," or "The problem with Blue Beetle is that it's not Ted Kord." If that's the only fault you can find with the book, it's a compliment as far as I'm concerned.
HeroClix needs more Goblin.
Acceptable in such forms as Green, Grey, Demo, Hob, Ultimate, and "Menace."

They will probably kill him off and completely reintegrate Ted as part of the Final Crisis/Universe Zero story.........or maybe they will kill Ted again and bring him back from one of the other 50 universes.
"When they come to take control every Ogre must play his role"
It's not really fair to compare a character who has there own book to one that was pretty much always in a team book and say the one with thier own book is the better JUST BECAUSE they have thier own book.
That's like saying that Jaime is better than most of the Teen Titans just because they mostly only really appear in the Titans book.
Ted and Jaime are 2 different characters.
Jaime's BB is compared to Spider-man. "This is what Spider-man should be" is a compliment I've heard.
But Ted is Ted. He has tons of history and way more street cred and fans then Jaime.
Jaime is DC's Spider-man. Ted is the Blue Beetle.
Im sure his book is great. Ims ure it whats Spider-man should be. Id probably like it if I read it. But that in no way means the "new hotness" is better than a classic character with tons of history.

I wasn't saying Jamie is better than Ted. I was saying that Jamie shows respect for Ted, and that Jamie's book is great. I don't think I ever used the word "better." You're the one who said "BB has the problem of NOT being Ted Kord. New characters usually have a real hard time getting off the ground. Even more so for legacy characters that came from a not-needed-death (Ted). I can't decide if it would be better or worse if this character was or wasn't called Blue Beetle."
I was never trying to compare the two. I love them both. But your problem with the series is that BB is not Ted Kord, and that's not fair to the series. You are comparing the two, even though, as you say, they are two completely different characters.
Who's Green Lantern? Is it Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, or Kyle Rayner? Given those options, there's no correct answer. The answer is all of the above. They are ALL Green Lantern, but they are also Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner. Four completely different characters.
Who's Blue Beetle? Dan Garrett, Ted Kord, or Jamie Reyes? While, they are all Blue Beetle. But they're also completely different characters. It's not fair to compare them and say that the problem with one is that he's not the other, without even giving his comic (a really good comic) a chance.
