I think the 52 idea was fresh new. But now after countdown, and now trinity (which i hear is going to be a 52 week run), it just turns out to be a bunch of DC hype for nothing.
What huge loss in money to buy them and also a disappointment in storyline. Add in all the small side action storylines. Bleh Bleh Bleh. I don't know why there is so much focus on continuity and explaining storylines that have happened years and yeard, make that decades ago. The initial idea was interesting, but now it just being dragged and overdone.
I could care less and give a dang about all those old story mumbo jumbo. Bring me fresh new stories, that won't reference back to old old storylines. Thats one reason I can get my buddies to give a dang about these new storylines. They carry too much baggage...too complicated.
So if he get canned so be it, this idea of dragging loyal DC fans into the mud with a bunch of bogus storylines has made me lose my interest.
Here's what I have noticed the 2 Cons I have gone to with Luke (Ro-gan):
1) Joey Q does not talk to anyone beyond 2 seconds and only continues the conversation if you are sucking up to him. He also won't do a doodle or sign one book unless it is at an autograph timetable.
2) Dan Didio will stop if approached and have as long as a conversation as it takes to answer question(s) asked of him. He will also sign/doodle whatever you ask of him. He also comes across as very nice and very approachable. Even the two panels I went to with Ro-gan, Didio actually enjoyed himself during the entire panel. He was laughing and joking. Unlike the panel I went to at WWE where Quesada was doing one. He came across as a jackballs and now I know why Ro-gan wants to eventually junkshot him.
I'm Ro-gan's Babe And Just As Nasty And Brutally Honest As Him. Deal With It.
Mmmm. Your signature may disburn people. In a bad way.
Oh well. Hence the warning.
Look, if people are going to get bent out of shape because of something that was said online then these people really need to get a life.
Going to the Cons with Luke I hear the people talking about how absurd Heroclix has become. What really got me is the ones that rules lawyer (I think that's what Luke called it). It's a game about comic book people. The prizes are pieces of plastic men. I can see if it was monetary prizes, but figures...? Unreal.
Luke and I played a game at our home and when I heard all the stuff that has been added to a game that is supposed to be played by pre-teens and readily playable I couldn't believe it. I've never seen so many ridiculous rules to a simple game.
I played in a group game at WWLA with Luke, Roland, Dave and the rest. The game dynamics didn't give me incentive to play again. Oh, I had fun with the guys in that game but the game was not interesting because of the complexity level.
Anyway... back on topic...
I saw some people posted they disliked Didio because of all the long drawn out crossovers. So what? If you don't like them, don't buy them. I don't recall Didio making me and Luke buy comics we didn't want. Even after the few times we talked to him at WWLA and Philly.
Don't hate on the man because he's putting out books and trying to compete against Marvel and online books. That's just ridiculous. No one says you have to buy every comic made. If you do, you might want to see a professional and seek help with your obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The issue with the latest long drawn out multi-cross over stories is that they're not very good and they impede of the better series. Or atleast what could be better series. Ask McDuffy or who ever the "writter" for JLA is, how much content he has been able to freely create.
I have cancelled a few series that kept getting side tracked by bad events. So you're entirely right, he's not forcing me to buy the junk. If anything he's makign the stuff I like junk too to make sure I don't feel like getting those either. Probably not the best strategy. The DC fan in me would like to see him not do that.
I'm not a fan of clamouring for someone to lose their job, especially when their job effects me in a purely recreational level, but the man needs to stop trying to cash cow on the weeklies and Crisis'.

You know, I gave 52 a chance. Then I gave Countdown a chance...for like 10 weeks...10 weeks too long. I've dropped 1/2 of my DC pulls since last year. Which was sad because I was buying more DC than Marvel at one point [and I'm more biased towards Marvel than DC].
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
Also, sad, sad, news. The major shakeup apparently just Senior VP of Business Development John Nee resigning. And apparently they're announcing at HeroesCon this weekend that their new Executive Editor for the DC Universe superhero line is....
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Dan Didio. Because apparently no one other than Dan Didio wants to be editor in DC.
It's very sad. Well, we'll just have to see what happens.
I've enjoyed most of the Dan Didio era I think. The big name books are on an upswing and he's smart enough to work Geoff Johns like he owns him. There have been alot of big missteps (countdown, and for me, canceling hawkman) but overall I think his record will be looked at favorably in a few years.

Okay, I hate to seem like I'm flaming you but I've got a couple of bones to pick here....and given your signature i'm sure you can take what you dish.

Number One - Why do you post here? It's a serious question. I'm not trying to be funny. But if your above comment sums up how you feel about HeroClix, then this certainly doesn't seem like the place for you, even if you are Ro-Gan's 'babe'. Just trying to gauge your vesting here. This is a HeroClix message board, and you don't seem like you even LIKE the game. Now past the question and on to the meat of the post...

I'm pretty sure what people are saying isn't necessarily about buying everything that's made, because it's pretty obvious to me they are not in fact, buying all the crossover-related stuff. They are complaining (and not unjustifiably) about a direction the entire DC line is taking. I don't personally mind the large universe stuff, but that's just me. I also don't buy it all. I'm in a position to read it all, and because a lot of it is quite frankly tripe...i don't even do that. I guess because you got to talk to DiDio a couple times, you know that anything the fans say about what he's doing from the context of a general direction of the DC Universe is just plain BS. Well, that's certainly GOT to be wrong since all we're talking about is opinions.
As far as opinions go (not very far from this thread or even post i'm sure...), I tend to think that if DiDio wanted to 'compete' with Marvel and online books more effectively, then he might want to do it in a way that that doesn't alienate the fans, who actually buy the books (even if it isn't every single obsessive-compulse disordered copy). Alienating the fans comes down to some who are tired of mega-crossovers (not me), tired of (pointless) character death (me), and I'm sure some other stuff (3 years worth of weeklies).

I'll give you that much. Dan Didio did do some wise-choices in the beginning. But I think he got drunk with editoral power. Remember, absolute powers corrupts absolute...or something like that. He was ok at first, but then his editorial PMS kicked in, and totally pissed off most of the hardcore DC fans I've talked to.
Joe Quesada is the same. And I think in the long run, depending on how bad their end came, that will determine their legacy.

Yes, Geoff Johns is good. I'm jealous of how good he is. But even he doesn't hit a homer every time.
I don't buy new comics anymore, but I manage to keep a hand in through the inevitability of trade paperbacks and the assistance of the NCC public library system. I recently finished Booster Gold: 52 Pick-Up. Parts of it were good, there was some great dialogue, but parts of it were downright ridiculous. I mean, to wipe out Superman, the bad guy goes back in time to knock off the doctor who delivered Jonathan Kent's grandfather. Fine, I buy that. But first he tries to hire Jonah Hex, and only decides to do the job himself when Hex turns him down? Hard to believe, as anything other than a deus ex machina to get Jonah Hex into the book. And he tries to wipe out the origins of Barry Allen and Wally West by installing a lightning rod on top of police headquarters?? I nearly expected Booster to offer him some Hostess fruit pies to forget the whole thing...
I guess I really just didn't realize that Final Crisis was written long before Death of the New Gods. This is all making sense now. After years of collecting these weekly books, I'm going to be seriously peeved if they don't somehow make Countdown and DOTNG gel.
I thought 52 was great, I liked countdown till a point that it was just boring, like when Kyle rayner appeared in the storyline which spoiled Sinestro corps war as he was still possessed by parallax in that storyline, but was back to normal kyle GL in countdown...
Then you get the death of the new gods, which in all fairness was a bit of a good storyline, but was a bit peeved to see them alive and kicking in the first issue of Final Crisis, I mean what was the point in that, apart from changing there appearances...
And also to add the ending to countdown was appalling, the last issue was worthless to me and didnt show any hint to final crisis at all even though it was counting down to it.
And to add, I like how all the bat books will have Batman R.I.P banners on the cover to say they are tie-ins when Grant Morrison says you ONLY have to pick up Batman #676 to #681 and dont have to read dectective, robin, nightwing or Batman and the outsiders.
