Since I am a new trader and the person I am trading with has 2 negative feedbacks (both for agreeing to make the trade but backing out without telling the other person but before any figs were sent) should I still be expected to send my trade first? It's not a problem if thats the case I just wanted some advice since I am new and don't want to mess up. Thanks!
The rule still holds, but you really need to use your judgement on this one. 2 Neg out of how many and how long ago has it been. If you don't feel comfortable just step away. There are always other trades with better rated traders.

nogo's advice is perfect. I'd be cautious, and there are PLENTY of traders on here who have NO negs.
1) if they were this person's MOST RECENT feedback, I'd be nervous.
2) if they have anything less than...50 or so trades, 2 negs would STILL make me nervous.
3) less nervous if the negs are broken up, old, or a small portion of the overall iTrader evaluation.
Thanks for the advice! How would you recommend cancelling this trade? No fig has been sent yet but we did have a verbal agreement. At first I was under the impression he was sending first but then he said I should. That is what made me wonder.

If addresses have been exchanged, unfortunately you *have* to make the trade or he can leave you a Negative Feedback. If they haven't (but from the sounds of things I'm thinking they have), then you can just politely inform him that you don't feel comfortable with the trade and you'll pass.
I found the trader BTW. 2 Negatives in only a few months on the 'Realms (Join date of December 2011) is not a good sign. Who's to say that he won't simply decide he doesn't want to send his end out to you after you've already sent your end? He's done that 2x already, but luckily for the other guys he was to send first (judging by their Feedback scores).
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........

In this situation is it acceptable to ask him to mail first? Addresses have been exchanged and I'd rather not risk a negative but I also don't want to lose a 70 dollar fig.

Yes you can ask the member to send first

I don't know if it's allowed now that addresses are exchanged, but would a third party trade be an option here? There are several members who have volunteered for such transactions
