SimonMoon has the right idea in regards to foes getting a similar keyword (ala the Rogues) but it's just too late to implement something like that.
I hate generic keywords, but I have to resort to them for characters like Multiple Man, who at least has the Mutant keyword all across his versions.
And I still think Marvel missed out on location based keywords entirely.
Madripoor. That's it, though.

CD LE Kyle Rayner not having the GL keyword while ALL his other versions from the set have it. The worst is the rookie having it when the corpse was officially dead at that point
Aren't most corpses dead? It's kind of the defining characteristic...
I would totally be cool if most venues use keywords as a guideline only. If I were a judge, I would let my venue vote on any non keyword but really theme team, and if the player brought an issue of the comic that his team is based on, and the team he is playing was actually fighting on the same side in the comic, I would allow it automatically. That way we avoid having characters on theme teams that really shouldn't be or that never really were on a team in the comics, but characters that were added to a team after the keyword was given out could still join their teammates in battle.
Also, If someone had a substitute character on their team (Psimon, Shimmer, Mammoth, e Jinx, and Arcade = 395) I would allow it be voted on.
cattmoe, OTOH, fails to distinguish between the active nature of most poisonous characters (Joker sprays acid from his lapel flower, Human Torch flames on just part of his body) and the more indiscriminate poisonous effect of Omega Red's "death factor."
Finally, a point on "Mutant": in the Marvel Universe, "Mutant" is as much a cause as it is a genetic state. Hence, AoA Cyclops doesn't get the keyword because he's a mutant-hunter. M+M Bishop, because he's the traitor to the mutant people.
It could be argued, anyhow.
Oh, I get it - I just disagree with you. Omega Red's death factor does not prevent him from having keywords - that's just silly. If so, he would never have been a part of any team or associated with anyone else in the comics, which clearly isn't so. He's still a soldier and could be a part of a soldier theme - he doesnt' stop being a soldier because of his death phermones.
As for Bishop - he actually sees himself as saving the mutant race, not a traitor. And there's thousands of mutants from his future who agree with him. And regardless, a mutant is a mutant. He doesn't stop being a mutant just because some people view his actions as heinous....
I allow themes for true themes even when keywords do not match-- but when a power or feat requires a matching keyword, I do not.
That's the way I do it too.
And when I bring a non-keyword themed team, I usually ask everyone if it is okay to count it as a theme team, and explain my reasoning behind it.
As for keyword errors... E Nocturne got "Hellfire Club" when she should have gotten "Brotherhood of Mutants"
the fact that there is no Angel with the Champions keyword annoys me a lot.
Thunderbolts as a keyword is a little screwed up because the Norman Osborn (Faith In Monsters) Thunderbolts never worked with the original MOE disguised Thunderbolts.
I'm a little annoyed that three versions of Wonder Man have the Force Works keyword even though he died in #1 of that title... but U.S. Agent, who was a core member of the team, doesn't have it.

What the?
Aw what?! He dies in issue one? Thanks alot, SPOILER warnings, plz!
It's funny 'cause I never read the book, but I always associate WM with the team, and not USAgent.
IC Vet Magneto....not having Brotherhood of Evil Keyword!!! come on now...if I had a dime for every opponent who said to me: " he doesn't have Brotherhood?"...well I would have a few extra bucks to say the least!!
LE IC Yellowjacket....Hank Pym has the Brute and Scientist keyword...but no Avengers...he was on the team even when he was going berzerk/bonkers in both instances!!! come on now!!
E IC Hercules without the Avengers keyword. His less experienced version has a Champions keyword before he has the Avengers Keyword??? He was an Avenger long before he was a Champion. At least the Rookie or the E should have the Avengers Keyword as well as the vet...jeeeessshhh!!

This one actually makes some sense, as he had long since abandoned that team by that time (this being the post-X-Men/headmaster stage of his career).
But still.

See, I would argue against this one. Keywords are supposed to show how characters kinda work better together? Well, O.Red was thrown into cryogenic stasis for being a loose cannon and his mutation sickens and kills other people just by being nearby.
So, no, he doesn't really deserve the keywords. Not really at ALL.
Why? He should be able to be run with Hand Ninjas, and a Matsumoto/Matsuro/whatever-the-heck-his-name-is-with-the-wolverine-hair click if we ever got him as a theme team. That was basically his first appearance after all.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
By that definition 9 out of the 10 Doom's we have shouldn't have the scientist keyword because we all know Doom doesn't need the help of others, specially in the matters of science.
That was well worth some rep.

Okay, lose alien and ape - the others would be definite non-generic
Actually, Alien is one of the few missing generic keywords I'd like to see implemented. No running the Black Rock storyline from Superman/Batman for you!

That's Rita DeMara, not Hank Pym. Thus the 'brute' keyword, as well as the MoE TA.
