(Haven't done this for a while so bear with going back a few turns)
G'Nort was trying to make it to the bridge with his large piece of steel precariously balanced on his shoulders when the deck under his paws gave a tremendous heave and he started to be pulled towards the bridge. Well that was where he was supposed to go anyway. He levered the metal through the tight confines of the doorway and then was promptly sucked out of the 1 meter hole in the front of the ship. In the split second that he had he used one of the low power rings to create a personal force field and 'fell' feet first out the hole. The large piece of steel he had been carrying was too large to go though the hole though and clanged flat onto the hole. G'Nort flew back to find the hole neatly patched, the force of the impact almost sealing the breach. 'That worked well' he said to himself. A quick spray of sealant and it was good to go. He then flew around to the forward viewing area and found the smashed remains of the forward screens. He grabbed the unconsious John and flew as fast as his depleated ring could carry him to the cockpit. "Kat! John is hurt!"
"Then take care of him! I think I have" A thundering explosion shook the ship and the whine of air rushing out became more insistant, but now the pull was from two directions.
G'Nort checked the damage control board. "Hole on the starboard side. We are losing air!"
"We might lose a bit more than that. We have picked up a dangerous amount of speed. The ship's guns can't react to the incoming asteroids in time. Secure John in the survival pod there, if it gets too bad we will join him in there. Just buckle up for a rough ride. We will ride this crate though the field and let it's mass take the beating. If it gets through in decent shape we will take it down. If not we will take the emergency pod down, we should have enough juice in our rings to do that."
G'nort thought while he put John in the emergency pod. It was hard work for him, the thinking not puting John in the pod. He made a quick trip and grabbed some extra emergency stores from the galley and med bay. The ship lurched again several times. When he returned the howling of air leaving was getting almost unbearable. Then abruptly it seemed to lessen. His ring's personal shield kicked on from the lack of air pressure, and he saw Kat become covered with one also.
Kat was scowling at the screen ahead. "Where did you ... oh. G'Nort you continue to surprise me. Toss those in with John and see if you can do something to reduce the leaks. Maybe the ship hasn't lost too much air and can recover with time."
The ship heaved an electronic sigh. Well the organic viruses had fataly miscalculated. The gravity of the nearby planet had pulled at the ship and brought it to a velocity where the onrushing asteroids couldn't be cleared by the guns in time. The guns fired in an almost continual volley forward but no no avail. They required recharging time and cooling periods. For every 2 they blasted another one got through the hail of plasma. Soon, soon everything would end. He unzipped his copy of Firefly. He had saved it for a special occasion and this was it. X100 speed. Savor the moments.

Alright, now it's game. Well done, sir. Too bad I didn't better consider the way things were set up, or else you might have had a real challenge on your hands.
Katma twisted the flight sticks hard to spin the ship to its side and slip between a pair of asteroids twice its size. The sound of rending metal told her she cut it too close, but the craft was still flying so the harm couldn’t have been that bad. Not that the thing was handling very well as it was; she could just barely get the controls to respond at the best of times, and that was before taking a string of bad hits. The good news was that it wouldn’t need to survive much longer - they were nearly clear of the field.
She scanned over her monitors and readouts, looking for what her status was. She’d disabled the warning alarms shortly after starting the asteroid run. So many of the claxons were blaring in her ears that it was all just distracting noise anyway, and she had more important things to focus on than which systems were shutting down next. She just kept her eyes on the essentials: engines, maneuvering thrusters, life support. Everything else could go, so long as those three systems got them to the surface of the planet ahead.
“G’nort,” she said through her ring. “How’s John’s pod?”
“H-holding steady, Kattie,” he whimpered, struggling to seal another leak in the ship’s hull.
“Good. Now finish your seal and get yourself to a safe area in the ship - somewhere a stray asteroid won’t open you up to a vacuum. We’re starting our final run and I’m pushing all out for speed. This is it, one way or the other.”
“Y-yes, ma’am.”
She focused her eyes on the viewport ahead, feeling her toes curling into fists and her hands gripping the flight sticks so hard her knuckles turned white-pink. The emerald ring on her right index finger throbbed with her need, but she couldn’t use it for its purpose. The d#mned thing was almost dead, as were the others she carried. This one had just enough energy left for communications and minimum life support; no matter how badly she wanted to envelop the ship in an energy field and safely lower it to the ground, it wasn’t going to happen.
Instead, she throttled up the engines with the last burst of power the auxiliary boosters had. The ship lurched forward, jumping into a dead race to the planet. There was only one veil of asteroids left in the field and then it was just their ship and the atmosphere. She focused on her calm and felt her heart cool even as her skin grew hot.
Spinning past a trio of asteroids, she wove through the net of space rock hurtling past at speeds that seemed lazy from a distance but were harrowing up close. One hundred kilometers… seventy… forty…
At the last ten, the ship heaved and pitched so hard she’d have been thrown from her seat if she hadn’t been belted in. Red lights flashed everywhere, and then her monitors flickered out and her readings disappeared. Her computers had gone down. The explosions she heard behind and below her worried her more. The ship was spiraling in an uncontrolled course toward a massive rock that she could have built a house on, and all she had was manual controls and her eyes to get her going.
She gave it everything she had, even leaning her body with the direction of the sticks as though sheer force of will and her own feeble movements would make a difference. Call it a reflex from her Green Lantern training, but her willpower wasn’t all she needed this time. She concocted a plan and didn’t have time to question what she would do next. If they didn’t survive this, there was no point in having anything in reserve.
Raising her fist, she overrode the safeties in the ring she wore and used the entirety of its energy reserves to surround the ship in a force field and launch it through the asteroid like a bullet. The impact reverberated through the field and into the ring before quaking up her arm and into her spine. She tasted the copper of her blood in her mouth, but it was easily ignored.
“Peace… calm… serenity…” she repeated.
When the ship emerged on the other side, they were free of the asteroid field and hurtling toward the planet ahead. The ring on her finger was dead and she tossed it aside to worry about later. Slipping on another, she glanced at her instruments and focused her mind on empowering the new ring to power her navigation computers. It was almost as drained as the last one, but if she didn’t nail the approach vector for the atmosphere they’d just skip off the surface and wind up back in the asteroids. Or else be crushed by the impact like a tin can against a boulder.
The monitors returned in glowing green and she ran the calculations. This was it - survival, or not. All the lives aboard were in her hands, but she was calm; at peace. Ready.
“Beginning atmospheric reentry,” she alerted her passengers. “If there is something you can hold on to… I would recommend doing so.”
