It's not like you can go to a dinner party and all of a sudden swap in a different woman and call her your wife just because she looked better in the cocktail dress.
We can't what now?!?

You CAN play it. You just can't be GUARANTEED the ability to play it. in the case of a Nightwing on a Robin base, I'd probably rule against it. Are you MALICIOUSLY misleading players? Probably not. But consider the game from the viewpoint of a player who doesn't read comics. How is putting Nightwing on a Robin base any different - to him - than putting a Con Artist on a Shazam dial.
Reading comics is not [and should not be] a prerequisite for playing this game.

As I said, I totally see where you are coming from. Defining this could be really difficult and, given that, I can see why you ruled this way. The only difference is that I would rule in the opposite direction. (Probably because I love my Mods!) Maybe at the beginning of any game players would need to name each figure by Dial. (Which is what I do whenever I use a Mod anyway!)
I'm really glad to hear that no one has ever played this rule out in your experience. It's good to know that the Total Toolshed demographic in the HeroClix population is on the decline.
This is, however, all academic as I will probably never compete on the level you are talking about. But this stuff tends to have a trickle-down effect and I don't want to Mod a bunch of figs that I can never play.
It is entirely inappropriate to black out, cover, or change any dialtop information on a mod.
I've got a mod of the Bride (from Kill Bill) that I've put on an SI Elektra dial. The name remains clearly visible, and I'd always bring the actual character card, so that there is zero confusion about what dial is in play. If I'm playing a mod I'm generally happy for my opponent to click through its dial before the game too.

Good call on all points.
And even though I have no desire to ever see Kill Bill, your Mod sounds totally cool and I'm glad that an existing dial fit your Mod so well.
But Hotei does that "Battle Without. . ." for the Kill Bill soundtrack, so it can't be all bad now, can it?

Yes, you can. Escort Services are listed in the phone books of every major city in the USA. Have fun!
And before you ask; yes, there is a female equivilent. Women ditch their men over the aesthetics of their bank accounts, cars, etc all the time.
I honestly think that unless it is misleading, it's extremely foolish and pointless to ruin someone else's time by calling them on a mod. It's one thing for me to play Booster Gold's figure on a Supernova base(which I have, in Modern Age to NO confusion, I still would've respected someone who said "no"), but why in god's name would someone disallow a mod?
