I thought you had to declare using P/T? Or is it automatic? I doubt it matters but meh.
I have to agree with Wakanda. The figure is definitely poorly designed with all these loopholes. It's not that HE is hard to deal with, it is he is an enabler that makes the match that much easier for an opponent.
I was going to take Wakanda's side until I saw normalview's post. I never knew he purely just ignored characters. Yeah, that alone will make Cobra ineffective against him. At least Cobra can tangle up nearly everyone else, though. That still makes him amazing!
I just want to point out some things amiss with this sentiment.
1) There are no loopholes. The figure works exactly as designed. There is only one way to interpret the power. The fact that Cobra is ignored by NC is not a loophole. That's simply how Nightcrawler works.
2) There's nothing poorly designed here. As I just said, he works exacly how he is written. I wish all SPs were written as clearly as Cobra's is. I think the problem is that people jumped to a conclusion based on misunderstandings of how the rules interact. When informed of these misunderstandings which caused their perceptions to be disproved, there's a false notion that there's a failure in the figure which doesn't exist.

I agree with point two, that SP's should be clear and precise. I agree that Nightcrawler does his job and works as designed, but the design itself is flawed. Either way, that is neither here or there.
So Cobra can't hinder Nightcrawler at all. Either way he is a good piece and Nightcrawler will be used by the masses.

I agree, it's not a loophole. Nightcrawler's power is a variation on phasing/teleport and Cobra's power doesn't even stop garden variety p/t. The frustration on this thread largely stems from the fact that there are so few ways to take out Nightcrawler. Cobra (at first glance) seemed to finally be one that involved simple basing and, let's face it, a character that isn't also extremely powerful like Bullseye. I'm sure it's been said thousands of times on this forum but I truly wish Nightcrawler had never been made.

I misunderstood and thought you were saying that there was a design flaw in Cobra.
Poison is still one of the best tactics for taking out NC. Base him with Poison while he has a token, forcing him to push and run away. If you can pull that off twice in one game then he's no longer a problem.
It would be nice if he had to break away from the Poisoner. But I guess that's not possible, even with Special Powers designed to give trouble to characters like NC.
Christ did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.

Which SP is that, exactly? It's certainly not Cobra's.
You seem to be under the false notion that Cobra was designed to be some silver bullet against Nightcrawler.
That just isn't the case.
You are trying to put up this front that WK set out to design a figure to stop Nightcrawler and failed to do so.
You are wrong.
You had high hopes based on your misreading of the power. The reality didn't meet the expectations you had falsely placed on the figure. Now you are trying to say WK failed by not designing the figure in the way you incorrectly perceived it?!?!? That just isn't cool.
Cobra is designed to tie down and mess around with mobile harrasers (HSS) and tie up figs (Leap/Climb w/High Def). Those are characters like Nightcrawler. Cobra's power works on them does it not? Other HSSers will find Cobra to be a real pain.
Christ did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.
So then to which characters "like Nightcrawler" are you referring?
Besides, if Cobra's power was designed to nerf characters like Nightcrawler, it would also nerf Nightcrawler as he would be like those others being nerfed.
Cobra was not designed to nerf Nightcrawler or characters like Nightcrawler. He was designed to nerf characters who automatically break away via Leap Climb and HSS.

I was typing up my above response as yo were posting this.
Nightcrawler is NOT like those guys...in relation to Cobra's SP.
Those guys rely on automatically breaking away because of L/C or HSS. Cobra is designed to mess with those guys.
NC uses HSS, but does not use that to break away from anyone, so he is unlike those other characters.

I'm glad I read this thread. I initially thought he would be a counter to Nightcrawler. But now I see I'm wrong. I'm still happy to have another viable counter to HSS and leap/climb. It's always a good option to have and I'm glad they mad Cobra.
Honestly, I'm not too worried about NightCrawler. I hardly ever see him get played at my venues, and when he does (or when I play him), he usually ends up dying before he becomes too much of a nuisance. I think he serves a purpose just like everyone else and can be a good counter to people running away the whole game after sniping a character of yours.
He may have been broken before, but I feel with Kid Zoom and Harry Leland, there are ways to deal with him now.
Perhaps that explains why there were only 4 teams or so out of 16 using NightCrawler. Occasionally he's a nuisance, but so are characters with stealth and Combat Reflexes!
I think we can probably agree that Nightcrawler is not LIKE any other character in the game in the sense that you are talking about. Unless there is some other character with HSS who also ignores characters for movement.
Christ did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.
I can kill Nightcrawlers sure, but it would be nice to have a figure that can deal with him consistently.
