so why did Watchmen get to be Modern Age? isn't it exactly the same type of entity as Kick Ass? It's not part of DCU proper, it was just a creator owned story.
As mentioned, it could be some legal issue.
Another possibility could simply be that Kick-Ass is golden age because WK wants Kick Ass to be golden age. There really is no need for any answer beyond that. If that's the case, then people can guess all they want about the reasons to make such a decision. My personal guess would be that WK might not want modern age to include figures named Night Witch and The Mister Falcon.
The bottom line, however, is that if it is a legal thing, then it is out of WKs hands. If it isn't a legal thing, then there is some other reason for WK's decision, and nothing about me buying a pack or even a whole gravity feed entitles me to know the background of that decision.
So Harpua is there any way to tell other than asking here or it truly as arbitrary as it sounds? Also is there a rule of thumb you recommend (e.g. If it has a marvel or dc copyright stamp it is assumed legal until arbed golden?)
I don't care the reasonings or the final classification just need to know the rule of thumb going forward.

The creators DO NOT own Watchmen. For reference, please see the HUGE DEBACLE spanning 30 years ending with the Before Watchmen series.
The creators DO own Kick Ass, it was just published by Marvel. The same way Marvel didn't and don't own The Dark Tower
There is no legal reason (Golden age demonstrates this). There is no balance reason (everything WORSE in ComiClix demonstrates this). It is entirely an arbitrary sales tool which just means I play more games at the venues that run more Golden events.
Yet Watchmen is considered DC. I hope these will be Modern Age. I don't see any reason for them not to be.

I think that's your answer, Puuka.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”
I would like an explanation from an ORANGE on this one. Specifically, how can we as laymen determine if a piece such as this (with the little Marvel Comic copyright symbol on the bottom) is modern or golden w/o having to wait a month on realms for you guys to tell us?
No it has the Marv Films copyright. Marv =/= Marvel. Marv is a company owned by Matthew Vaughn.
As necrodog pointed out, it has already been confirmed that they are golden age.
And yet strangely my question remains unanswered. Is there a way besides asking here or waiting for an updated PG to tell when marvel/dc comic properties outside the mainstream are MA?
I always figure Gears and Halo and LotR were golden because of the mechanics they introduced. While compatible in gameplay, they had symbols on the base for epic actions an grenades. Especially after Street Fighter was deemed legal. I see no reason either Kick-ass or Pacific Rim should be golden age out the gate.
not really. Waiting a month between question and answer seems a bit lacking to me. Not saying it is the arbs fault so don't come bashing me. It just makes sense that wk should do something better. Like determine up front and distinguish in their marketing materials the status. I know that didn't work all that well in the past with things like colossal traits but its better than nothing.
