I tried it out last night...man, the Defiant is disappointing. It's sooo easy to lose it to one bad roll.
It's a shame...the Defiant is my favorite of the non-original cast ships.
Yeah, I've seen it happen a couple times myself. It's much better off not cloaking and just tanking the damage then it is to cloak and hope you roll the defense dice well.
This is why I'm looking forward to the Dominion Battleship. Big guns, big hull, no fuss, no muss, just straight damage all around.
It is also why I think that Mines need to be banned from a significant portion of games. Being able to roll even just 2 dice against no defense is stupid crazy. Oddly enough, cloaked ships suffer the most from cloaked mines, but it takes absolutely ZERO skill to drop mines into someone's path and make them hit the mines.
I've got my even on the 13th and I'll be trying out that list Reklawyad posted, so we'll see how that goes

I agree with masterprotoss23. I think the Defiant is better without the cloaking device. 3 damage to the hull is too easy to get. I think the points are better spent on other things - even if its Kyle and his Shield repairing ability (or Miles).
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

This is pretty much how I feel about it as well. I've tried it both with and without the cloak, and it's just not as good as I was expecting.
I don't think it's a bad design...it's a small ship after all, even though it was built for war. I think my expectations may have been built up too high based on the show and what the DS9 crew were able to do with a tough little ship.
I need to test out the Excelsior and Sutherland and see if one of them makes a better compliment to my Enterprise-D.

I've used Excelsior twice. In a three-player game it got annihilated.
In a normal game (with Pike) it held up pretty well as a secondary ship. It gets by on 9 hit points alone. Put Kyle on and it could be a real pain.
That is why I think the Flagship resource is a good choice for the Defiant. I get you like the Command Tokens, but the Flagship gets the Defiant to 9 life which is a big deal. Better, it's shield heavy allowing you to shrug off a lot of damage.

I went 3-0 with three wipeouts. Lost the Excelsior once against a Dominion fleet.
Disobey Orders (and Sutherland) are mine.
Best shot: Used Scotty to get two extra Quantums, and rolled one more from Admiral's Orders...eight hits!!
Congrats - and glad to see the Excelsior hang in there. Great job not using mines - did any opposing fleets field them? Just curious if its a local meta or not.

No mines this month, but they're in the toolbox from previous months.
(Meaning they show up, just didn't happen to play against them this time.)
First round was against a Ch'Tang/Neg'vahr/Barrage of Fire build with Admiral's Orders, second was two Dominion ships, last was two Neg'vahr with Admiral's Orders.
Month 4 is actually not a good mines operation. The orbital defenses count as enemy ships for laying down cloaked mines, so it severely limits placement. When I played my month 4 one of my opponents broke out his 3-D'deridex mine-laden fleet but I was nice enough to warn him about that before we started and he quickly rebuilt his fleet.
Tested out the Dominion force that Reklawyad suggested and it didn't do nearly as good as it looks like it is supposed to do, so I've decided to change up the force into a 2 ship force, basically the strategy being "which Gigantic Gunboat do you need to deal with first?" and I'm utilizing both Admiral's Orders.
