Yeah but looking thru the team lists, you can really see how play styles and the dice can make or break a match. The same team that went 6-0 (1st seed) for one player went 4-2 (10th seed) for another. I'm a little surprised that out of the list I saw there was only 2 TB's and no JL or Shi'ar. I am not a tourney guy so I am still trying to figure out how Mole Man/ Shuma didn't do better.
On that, I can say match ups and a few dice rolls determined the difference between my record and Roland's (1st seed). My first loss was against a great player that ran a team I had previously considered, and the game came down to the wire. The second loss was against X-Men Blue. Bad match-up and losing map roll determined that game.

In my article I wrote about the risk of playing JLTB. You should expect the Kryptonite Ring to be present and with quite a few Belt teams around, you could run into a few. There was one JLTB in the tournament and in Round 5, he ran into a Belted team that had TWO Kryptonite Rings... needless to say, it was a very quick match, and JLTB got slaughtered. Like I said, Batman has all the answers apparently!
Although I like the Shi'Ar TB, it's hard to go all in on a team with a 10 ATK in my opininion. Regarding Shuma, there were 2 Shuma teams and both made Top 16. One finished in the Top 4. The only thing better would be if it won or at least got to the Finals. If that's what you meant, then disregard what I just wrote, lol. You can see both Shuma matches on video on our youtube page (or just go to the Tournament Reports page and click the link). Both lost that Feature Match, BTW.

See, and the thing is that other people can trash resources however much they want, but the fact remains that you have to determine the best way to play a team with them. It's really the end of this game when people take their team out of a pre-made box, and destroy all of the wonderful ideas that people invented on their own, unaided by suggestions like what the back of a card tells you to build. No one should look the least bit proud of themselves when they place out of a factory super booster. It's a true testament to the strength of other teams that it even came down to map roll to determine a win against pre-made beat sticks. Team bases don't come with fun ideas inside. They come with sadness.
First Congrats to the Champ and congrats to everyone in the top 16.
Why does every thread about competitive play get hijacked by folks boohoo'ing about resources?! This is competition at the highest level possible. If "your venue" only uses clix and despises TB's, resources, and vehicles fine. Dont try and piss all over everyone else because you think "true" heroclix play is just figures.
Personally I love to play with spidey/batmen enemy teams. Are they competitive? nope. Do I play them resource free? yup. Do I play them vehicle free? Yup (onlly because I dont have a jokermoblie). Play whatever you like and have fun. It is a game after all.
Can someone tell me how Kris moves Za’ra’xas up without having to take a move action? Also it looks like his team is over by 3 but he is probably only using 7 hammers.
The lion moves for free from Kraven
Kraven moves which allows Lizard to move
Bruce Wayne can move for free if a friendly moves

I don't see how Za'ra'xas moves for free
Mage Spawn team ability states the character on your force with the highest point value at the beginning of the game is this team’s master. If a character using this team ability is within 4 squares of its master when the master is given a move action, then the character using this team ability may be given a move action as a free action. Uncopyable.

You're right, he only has 7 hammers. It's probably a typo on the coverage or lists.
Glad to see 2 of my Bro's make it to the top 16, and a total of 4 from the central valley in the top 16. Now James Esparza is a new player that has picked up the game very quickly, his first big event and he made the top 16 makes me jealous and happy for him. Watch out for him in future events I know he will be up there again. As for Andrew Vlahos well he is already a top notch player, placing pretty much in all bigger events that he attends and he is the player most local players strive to beat, once you beat him you know that you moved up a notch. And the central valley players are both great players, I know Aaron Cantu and as a player what can I say his name speaks for itself an all around top notch player.
This is my third 1k event that I attended and I had a fantastic time again, when I attend these events I have one expectation and that's to have fun winning or losing, and for this event I had fun losing but had more fun losing to great players. I think Patrick and his team did a great job with the events and they continue to improve where needed. I enjoyed the Q and A at the end nice touch. For the prizes well Patrick did a great job again, its well worth the trip, and from what I saw Patrick was handing out a ton of prizes, well done Patrick and team Majestix.
