It was probably going to be an amalgam of both. I do like the hockey stick... but I prefer the books for most characters. Save Morgan and Bob, as the TV versions of those two were far more interesting.

At least in HZ's case it was less something he did and more that I know him so I could mock him about it in person when I did it

If you factor in the "low budget" necessity of being on SciFi... yes it was. It was REMARKABLY different from the books, however. I think if they had done it more as a miniseries format (like one book is 8-10 episodes), it would have gone better and maybe lasted.

Still, if you can find the DVD series, I'd recommend it. It's a fun watch. Used to be on Netflix streaming but I don't know if that is still the case.

They removed it from Netflix and Amazon Prime but it's still worth seeking out. Bob, alone, makes the format worth the viewing.

Granted. I guess my bigger objection is that we're statistically less likely to find scum and more likely to give the scum information to work with. I trust you checked the proboards for those games, we went very far with any info given.

Oh yeah, that was one of my more jerk moves. I didn't think it would be that bad.

My personal experience is that when the town is active and shares lots of information early on it corners the mafia. Of course, that means the town needs to keep the pace up. There has been some issues with town complacency....
