All my pieces. I think I'll go to more events, I think I can play with my pieces.
I do however find the 450 point, multiple arty group scary. Still, i don't think it's any worse than it was before. And I still think it gives me a better chance to get across the field with an intact army. Especially when combined with the non-stacking.
Although, I also see how 450 points means you can put a heck of a shield around the same amount of artillery. And since the goal is to rack up points . . .
So, the all arty/vtol army might not be dead, but is it at least a little less overpowered, and more of an in-game match and less of a "well, this is my army, that's yours, we know who's won, why play?".
Still, despite shakeoff, I'd say more infantry on my part. . . I've been putting everything into mechs and transports/tanks because I had to emphasize fighting artillery with what I had. . . (I have no arty), and I'd say more expensive mechs, but I dont' have anything worth more than 156. Besides, I'd need teh formation bonuses.
If, of course, they accept the rules and/or I'm not horribly misreading the effects of the potential new rules. Which are both possible.
True, Kyria is an awesome mech for the Points, 6 and 4 Damage, AP and Alpha, Heavy armor :) And JJ Ok heat dial, And that Trickey lil 13 Range :) If only she had an 11 attack

Originally posted by Maraduer Me, I'm gonna be taking a dusting rag to Joel Nguyen, Caden Senn and Eriabee Childs. At 450 points, even Eriabee, one of the most expensive 'Mechs in the game (293) will be useful! I can have something larger then Tora's Angry Mob to go with her! Yay! And Caden and Joel are even better off! Caden is being returned to his pre-FFE kicka$sedness! He's now invulnerable to most artillery! Heck, now the Highlander armor we've sacrificed weapons, accuracy and speed for is now gonna be more useful!
Now, if only they'll apply the shakeoff to vehicles as well.
Hey don't drop your guard yet kiddies.
I can still do 4 damage armor piercing to Cadenn when I bring along 2-SW Padillas.
Even though they don't do stackable damage, I can drop one pog from each unit onto his head and still do 4 damage. Then place the other 2 pogs somewhere else on the board like on top of his support.
The new rules changes haven't done a whole lot if you think about it. 450 pts for the standard game allows me to bring more artillery.

hehehe
True, but now you've used 2 of 3 orders to do it. Even with a potential for additional orders it doesn't leave alot of options. Sure you fire two pieces, but my counterbattery arty also has 2 pogs for 2 damage. Which forces you to either take the push for 1 or let the arty hit. hmmm...decisions decisions.
I probably won't be dusting off too many new mechs, but I will increase the quantity of mechs I already use. More DF Centurions, DF ForestryMech MODs, and other light to medium mechs per game.
Mechs are just too many points in one unit. If you take one mech 150-170 points lets say, I will have 2 SS Art and 8 infantry to counter it. You roll average and kill an infantry unit. I roll average and hit your mech for 2 AP damage (and targeted up to 4 other units). I can focus my attacks on one unit, your must attack one small unit and then another small unit.
500 points and 2 actions would force more command and maybe more mechs. Granted they would be elite Liao mechs, but mechs.
Half of the players that I play with haven't been using mechs because the good ones are too expensive to fit in a 300pt army with 2 artilleries & 2 or 3 VTOLS. Now, with these new rules changes, if enacted, they will be putting mechs back in their armies.
Originally posted by BuckarooBanzai Maybe so, but remember a lot of those fatties have a defense of 22 or 23, with or without armor. That means that some of the most popular chargers with a 9 attack don't have great odds at hitting...and if they miss, then they're toe-to-toe with one VERY annoyed fattie! Even the vaunted Arnis needs a 13 to hit a 23 defense, and that's approx. 25% chance. Better hope that whatever fattie he charges has minimums on both weapons that are greater than 2"...
already a 21 defense (miningmech^) is a 50/50 gamble for a 10 attack unit ...
even worse it gets, if the target is a packhunter.
on a second thought, i decided to reactivate my double packhunter army which was really really successfull before VTOLs hit the shelves:
Miguel V + Hitoshi Sato + 2x Merc Raiden
really good against anything, because ... well Packhunters rock :)
and now:
(all DF)
Miguel V
Hitoshi Sato
2x maxim
Partisan AA
Donar VTOL
+ some potent infantry for the second transport
2x mob HQ
merc sniper
... something around those lines should be possible with 450 pts.
as soon as the opposing VTOLs have been nullified, its happy hunting for the packhunters.
Oh Joel Nguyen... 'ey baby, I've missed ya. Oh oh oh, baby, you know I didn't mean to get rid of ya, but those stupid arty/infantry armies were getting tough ya know. Don't take it wrong baby, I still love your 14" range and all your damage. Daddy loves you Joel ;)
