Originally posted by Cochise Last week at Lies, Lies, Lies I killed Arnis and a Behemoth II with two 66 point SS MiningMechs and Melcom McPherson laying down three 1 point pogs to keep infantry on the run.You don't like it, tough. With Ranged ballistic Attacks being reduced by 1, I can deliver 8 quick points of of damage and at 66 points per MiningMech, well when they had done their job and were turned to scrap I was way ahead in points. It is called strategy.
Well, I beat Arnis and tankdrop just the other day while playing against my good buddy Joe Joe Joe (that's his first, middle, and last name, I reckon if'n I remember correctly) using nothing but a pair of Highlander Ullers and a formation of Highlander Trike Squads! Of course, the game took twice as long. JJJ (that's what we call him for short, or 3J) has a pretty severe stigmatism, he can't see the pieces right.
*ahem* Allow me to expand on that point with my intended message:
You people are ####ing clueless. Thank you, drive through.
Except for TrevorTheOkay and few others, they seem to get it. People don't not understand that an overall negative attitude affects the game as a whole. They can't see beyond their precious prizes and sanctioned play, and they've forgotten that the game is supposed to be about beating up your friends with big giant robots.
I've met alot of great people in person , at nationals, and at regional events. But I want to kick 90% of the people on the boards square in the nuts whenever I read them.
I like dark ages. It's relativly simple, easy to play, and easy to understand. I'm good at it, and I play regularly with some of the best players in the country. I have no desire to commit a large portion of my life to tactical gaming, and it fills me needs.
Overall, I never fail to have fun. Even that time I played an 11 year old who charged 17 times in a single game. I didn't flip the table in frustration and then run home to post to realms about how much the game sucks. Instead, I laughed at the absurdity of the situation , had a good time, still went home with a prize and met some cool guys in the process.
What do you think an overall negative attitude comes from, doctorspooky? In my experience, people don't complain the amount that they do unless something is wrong. People are spending money (a lot of it) on this game and as it stands, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Glad you are playing against the best in the country (which I have never heard before *sarcasm*), but some of us were stuck with the same exact games week after week with no variation. If that sounds like fun to you, you must like hitting yourself with a hammer repeatedly and putting a positive spin on it. That is what I make of this game. Also, don't tell people to shut up. This is a forum, it is for discussion, so pull your head out of your anus.
Alright, I'm actually gonna say something here and will probably regret it. I read threads here a lot but almost never post anything. Why? A general lack of maturity increasing as almost any thread gets longer. People are allowed to complain, that's their right. People are allowed to say everything's great, that's their right. It's in how you do it that you step over the line. I'm just sick and tired of people bashing or insulting each other. If you don't agree, say that. Don't say they are dumb, don't say they don't get it, don't say they can't understand tactics, don't say they are Wizkids puppet. It doesn't matter what side you take if you can't make a point politely. By being condescending or rude you can very quickly polarize your reader against what you are saying or they at least stop reading your post assuming there's nothing worthwhile.

Kenjelly, meet the Internet, Internet, this is Kenjelly. Apparently the two of you have never seen introduced.
And so let me get this straight, so, you wouldn't recommend the game to anyone, but yet you are tired of playing the same people and the same games week after week? Have you everconsidered the possibility that you are not part of the solution? And if you are not part of the solution, then it can be easily deduced that you are *ding* that's right, kid, part of the problem.
And additionally, by telling me to not tell people to shut up, aren't you telling me to shut up? I mean, if it's a free forum for disscussion, and my contribution to the disscussion is to encourage people to end the disscussion in favor of something else, is it not, by your own words, my right to so?
And whose head is in their ###, just out of curiousity? Because it would seem that I'm not the one presenting valid points against my own arguement.

Yes, I am aware that it is said alot. Of course, they thing is, it's true. At least until Origins. In the interim, come visit, we like visitors, we are friendly people, and our venue rules.

Oh, I'm acutely aware of that fact, and in situation where I think there is even the slightest chance of changing someone's minds, then I probablly won't behave like a jackhole. But I'm not trying to change anyone's minds, because I know that such a feat is impossible on internet forums and especially so when me dearly lvoed fellow gamers are involved.
Instead, what I'm doing is blowing of steam and frustration at people, which really, is what they are doing over artillery, VTOLs, charging, or whatever has their little panties in a bunch this week. No one argues points here, no one disscusses anything, and no meaningful dialogue is ever exchanged that I have seen. (don't bother me with your examples, I know they exist somewhere, *I* just havn't seen them)
But I digress, my point is that it's a whinefest and I've come to peace with that fact. But now, I'm just joining in. The difference is that I'm whining about whiners. Meta-whining, if you will.
And as always, my typing, my spelling, my 'honor', and my mother's purity are sure to be called into questions and just like when I play the game, I will walk away with a smile on my face. And my solution to anyone who has a problem with me in this context is to come play the game with me that we all have in common. You might be surpised. Although I'm sure many people in life think of me in a megative light, I've never had anyone walk away from a game table muttering about what an ####### I am.

I had a point somewhere here, I'm not sure where it went.
Originally posted by Khan Tseng Actually CAV is a mixed force game. Try it some time. I like Mechwarrior and all, but I get tired of facing the same carp over and over again. "Adapt or die!!!" Dude try it yourself. If your SO good with your arty, challenge your self and build a force that does use arty, try a faction pure force, try something new and see if you can still win!
1. I DO play faction pure Republic (and sometimes faction pure Highlander), with never more than 2 mercs and usually none, and I still win 80% of the time.
2. I never play a set army though I have 2 mechs I prefer to use if I can, but I am not so tied to them that I'll use them if the scenario rules don't work for it.
3. I am usually hard to beat by local players because I Never play the same Army twice. Most of my losses I get from visiting players who I learn a lot from and try to never make the same mistake twice.
4. I use arty, maybe 30% of the time. Republic Arty is #### and I use it only to keep certain units off their stride so my main units can move in for the kill. My Arty is so bad that it has never killed or seriously damaged any opposing units, but the fear of the arty has players pushing and damaging or overheating themselves.
5. I never Tank drop, I HATE IT but it is part of the game and I normally do a good job of killing it (last week I lost the tournament because I was unable to stop the tank drops, oh well, you can't win them all). Try using infiltrating units, VTOLs or transport VTOLs dropping jj BA infantry to eliminate or at least base the arty. I can normally base the arty in round 2 or 3. Yes my VTOL usually ends up scraped or dead and infiltrator or BA infantry that I base the arty with take a pounding, but it gives me VC3 points and even if it doesn't kill the arty, keeps it quit for 5 or 6 rounds until the game ends or my main forces show up and smash it.
6. The Army I took to to the venue to play Lies, Lies, Lies was a scrap army made up of trading pieces, not a well planed Army. Why did it win 2 out of 3? Not because I am SO good (on the scale of 1 to 10 I'm probably only a 7), but because everyone at that venue has been playing each other for so long that they know what the other players will do, their favorite tactics and units, and what their player weaknesses are. They all laughed at me when they saw my army, and it was laughable, but I played them in a way they didn't know and couldn't predict. Even in the games I played I changed my tactics every game so i never played the same way twice. One of my victory's was a slam dunk, the second was a last minute desperate charge, and I lost the last game with my opponent using last minute desperate moves.
All this talking gets off the subject. What I want and meant to say is, STOP BLUBBERING ALL OVER THE FORUM!!!!!
If you need a break, take it. Maybe you should visit new venues occasionally like I did to meet new players and styles. maybe you should leave, play less, or play more. What ever works for you. But all this #### on this and the WK forum is ruining the game for those of us who love it. YOU ARE HURTING OUR GAME!!!!!! STOP IT!!!!!!!

1. You are correct, neither you nor I or anyone else can change their minds, they have to do it. I would suggest that WK and Realms make a start a site just for negative postings so that whiners and grippers can complain to their hearts content without throwing a dark cloud on the rest of us. I watched a beloved and popular league totally die because 5 people did nothing but complain and call people names. When I and the administrator tried to stop it we were called every name in the book and the owner told us to back off (he felt stopping them would be bad for is league, free speach and all that) The administrator resigned his position and we watched as after 6 months membership dropped from 65 to 12 and the league was closed. Then we had our told you so with the owner. YES this games has some issues, but the way people are dealing with it IS NOT FIXING IT, IT IS MAKING IT WORSE!
I don't know about your honor (*joke) but anyone say anything about your mama and I'll kick their tail.

I think someone has used their yearly stock of sarcasm in one day.
Look it would be nice if people we polite to eacher more on here or the internet in general but when people disagree they take it to the extreme to get their point across and to make others pay more attention to them.
Originally posted by Arsenal-Wolf I have gone back to CBT and I am also thinking about Warhammer 40k.
P. S. - 1) Does anyone know of a good protective flat finish.
2) Which do you think I should get - a reproduction Mauser K98 or a real life version of the AWP from Counter-Strike? (This is for long range target shooting mind you.)
1) Krylon...the only way to go.
2) If you've fire both rifles before, which one are you more comfortable with? The Mauser has a little kick but accurate. Also easier to clean (IMO). The AWP has a better ammo capacity and has an easier time to get parts for if need be. The accuracy is also good.
By "long range" how does that work out in yards/meters/miles?
Distance does affect a rifle's accuracy (bullet drop, wind direction, etc.)
I'm still using my Remington 700 for long range targets.....I still want the HK-PSG1 though (ah well, one can dream :()

1) The Krylon spray like the ones you buy from Wal-mart?
2) I have decided on the K98 since I can get one for about $300. Also, with an effective range of ~1200 meters, it suits my needs very well (we usually shoot at 300-1000 yards).
@doctorspooky - 1) I could care less about the prizes (I have only kept one of the ones I have gotten over the last six months - Danai Liao-Centrella - b/c she is piloting one of my favorite 'Mechs from CBT). 2)I do play with my friends and I do have fun for the most part. 3) Sometimes I get a little sad playing with my friends b/c for some odd reason only one of them as ever been able to give me a real challenge. 4) Playing against only one truely challenging player gets kind of boring. 5)I do bring my friends to tourneys to give them a chance to play players of their level. 6)To date I have brought in 7 of my friends into this game, 3 just recently (this brings total players in my area to 14 and we now need only 6 to reach our high before set-retirement.
I didn't say this is a stupid game, only that it has, like many others, flaws within the game mechanics. I still enjoy playing this game (although set-retirement will probably screw me over - trying to pay off a car loan right now so I have very little money).
@Cochise - Official leagues and tourneys for CBT are scarce if there are any, but the fan base is still out there and people are still playing (They just released a new set of upcoming products). CBT is anything but dead right now.
To end this post, could everyone PLEASE CALM DOWN.
Originally posted by TrevortheOkay Regardless, my "attitude" is simply that of a person growing more and more fed up with an overly negative community.
One of the worst fan communities I've ever seen was the Transformers community a few years ago! It got so bad that one of the major writers for the series suddenly pulled out of a major convention and refused to go to any more fan-related events. His decision was influenced by some very vocal fans who wanted to express their personal dislike for him. We're talking way beyond, "I don't like his writing", more like "He should crawl into a hole and die" type stuff.
There's still some evidence of petty bickering going on between the various TF fan sites - to the point where Hasbro has had to withdraw from the community as well.
