Well im like some. I played MW a while back, but then I had to pay for school. I copuldnt support two games so back then I chose MK. Well after the drought of nothingness (I still play MK lots but the lack of some newer stuff dissapoints me) So Im back!
Im hoping to start collecting again, playing again, and most of all having fun doing it.
Now for problem number 2. finding people to play with. I guess im just going to get my friend hooked again lol.
Now I salute all you new and old MechWarriors out there. For it is us who make this game possible. I give you greatings now, but be wary on the battlefield.
My name is Logan Hurst. I live in southern Indiana. I started with MW when MW2 came out for PC. Played it. Loved it. MW3. Played it. Loved it to death. MW4. Played it. MW4 (expansions). Played it. LOVED THEM!
My friend Brent, brother of my wife's sister (makes him a brother-in-law-in-law), was starting to play MW in the miniatures form and asked me to play. I figured it was for D & D fans who live in their mom's basement at age 45 and play with toys. But I was wrong. It's like playing chess, but more complex and creative. No space-elves. No undead. No spellcasters or anything like that. Futuristic combat. Awesome.
I was hooked and started buying boosters. Didn't like what I was getting all the time, so I went to e-bay. I have more Spirit Cats pieces than anyone should have, with my point total in SC being somewhere around 20,000-25,000. Hundreds of 'mechs. Hundreds of vehicles. Hundreds of infantry.
I wanted to try new factions, so I jumped into Stormhammers. I started buying only pieces that I had researched, and came out better. I probably have about 7000 points in SH/HS. I play SH/HS quite a bit now.
I wanted to dabble in more factions . . . got some Jade Falcon. Liked it, but still don't have a gigantic amount of JF pieces. Two shrikes, a goshawk, four vixens, a few tanks, and a good deal of infantry. Probably 2200-2500 points.
Then came Rasalhague Dominion. They had my old colors, so I jumped right in. "Bjorn" Atlas, 2 Mad Cat IV's, 1 Thor, 1 Marauder, 1 Raptor II, and 4 Violators. No tanks. About 25 infantry pieces. An atlas surrounded with violators just looks cool. I haven't played RD much, but I will. Around 3000 points.
Then I realized the awesomeness of collecting mercenaries. "Chikako" Xanthos. Collin Tolek's Cygnus. "Tremor" Thor. The merc mechs from Phantom Wars. Koshi. Uller. "Quantum" Hellion. AoD starter 'mechs. "Headmaster" Atlas. "Hammerfall" Atlas. "Poseidon" Ares. I have about 5 vehicles and 40 infantry. I like mercs. I want more mercs.
I have never played a tournament. I have no desire to. I play for the challenge and creativity. Since Brent introduced me, I've beaten him about eighty times. He's won about 5 times. I've only played against 5 different people, and usually fair very well. We almost always field armies over 1200 points. Sometimes 2500. I'm a collector now as much as a player, but only collect pieces that REALLY appeal to me. I'm starting to get into smaller points games, just to try my luck.
The reason I am here is to fellowship with other MW fans, learn, grow, and perhaps find someone in my area that is interested in playing recreational MW. Also, I think it's great to get an area like this to come to, exchange news, views, and ideas, and serve as feedback to any WK employee who might venture into this place. If you know of anyone in southern Indiana or northern Kentucky who plays for recreation, someone let me know!
hi im new here bought my first wolf strike i guess about two weeks ago got crushed by a aries meet lots of cool people one was dressed like boy george strange but true
Well...although I am almost positive that nobody will reply to this anytime soon, I am new to the game. and am working on a RotC army. two tanks already! from only two packs. :P
anyway...I usually play the PC games, but I decided to give this a shot.
Hey all. New to the Forums and MW mini's, but not to the Battletech universe as a whole. In fact, I still have the original box set ( some of you know it; the one with all the little folded cards in plastic bases that represent 'Mechs? ), and have played almost all of it's incarnations over the years. I'm not even all that old (31)! In any case, this game is pretty damn cool so far.
My first post!Yeah!Hello,I'm Xertxis(not my real name).I'm just getting into MW,after years of Game$ Work$hop and Privateer Press, this is a nice change of pace.I bought a AoD starter and 4 boosters,2 not AoD, almost 2 years ago,and it sat in the game room, untill my son found it.It peasked my intrest, and the intrest of a few of the members of my game club. One of them played the older version of this game"BattleTech".So,hello to you all:D
Could have sworn I started a newb thread, but now I can't find it. Anyways, have not played MW since the VTOLs and Artillery were the new thing. Can I still play with my old stuff? Where can I get the updated rules? Thanks,
MW has evolved a lot in the last two years, as collectible games tend to do. Right now light 'mechs and heavy 'mechs dominate the game. There are exceptions, but that's the trend. There are almost no pre-AOD 'mechs worth fielding; in fact, I can't think of a single one. Old infantry and vehicles are still perfectly viable. Artillery, ATVs, Transports, especially old 3 capacity versions, all see play. Generally, if the infantry was valuable before, it's valuable now. Tanks are far less dominant, but they still play a supporting role, especially high damage IT tanks. Good luck building your armies. Veteran players are a good source for building stock quickly. Many are generous with their extras and pieces that don't fit their play or faction styles. Good luck.
