I think that the April campaign formats are a response to those of us that wanted the campaigns to be more thematic in nature. There is not a single "Standard" format game in the entire month of April...I am all giddy at the prospect.
Week One: Sealed Booster
Week Two: 4 Player 100 pointer
Week Three: 4 Player 200 pointer, 25 points per fig or less, no Uniques, LE's or Heros
Week Four: Four Player Dungeons!
I have to agree that this set of Campaign play is going to be interesting. More stuff like this would be great. The bad part is peopel teaming up in the 4 player games. It is bound to happen and there is bound to be people that are friends that will team up to whack off the other players.
Well iti s aboubel edge sword thing. Anyone that packs some typ eof real threat or any one that has a huge hoard is going to have a bulls eye on their head. For younger players they are not going to like the idea of getting hit by two different players. Now that same kid is going to realy enjoy sniping at units and messing with other people's plans.
Now what I would do as a warlord is pair the top players all at one table and the lower tier players at others. I am going to assumen people are still going to play swiss rounds so you will be able ot split up any teaming up that goes on through the rounds. Another thing is putting the top player at a table with the younger or lower tier players. If somebody is always beating th esnot out of other players in normal games thisis their chance to gang up on him.
This is one style of events that I would never play on a h2h type event but as a campaign I woudl love it. All the younger players gangin up on me woudl be fun. If they beat the snot out of me great!
I personaly feel like players have to police each eachother to a degree. We had a player that played the AD yo-yo all the time becuase he pulled it off the net. He pound the snot out of a lot of the other players and was not the most friendly person. SO we all amde it a pt ( the better players at the venue) to basic crush him as bad as we could. Run up the score the whole bit. Now after he go this butt handed to him he got his ego back in check. It also helped that someone caught him with loaded dice.
I am loopy thinking about all the different 100 pointers...I think melee will be really fun, so I may just put Vladd and Podo out here....with all that Vampirism, he will have some staying power!
"americans play to win all the time, i wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed"
a quote from my favourite general
that said however, if you're supposed to have a themed army, or follow the story-line, do so... i don't exactly since my army is elemental league and necropolis with one draconum and a few mage-spawn... my theme? both of the sects went somewhat renegade and follow my order of vladd... he likes natural things and is willing to do whatever it takes to preserve his little corner of the world
granted i don't always win... nor do i always lose
but i do have fun as long as the other player is playing his/ her army the way they stated was their theme {of course you get some people who play dwarves like goblins or something and decide that their orc them army needs to be made up of necropolis sneak attackers with a token orc... but if that makes them happy, whatever, but they shouldn't then say it's a theme army}
I have very little NS, AG, OR or BPR, so if I was to try to build an army for the campaigns I may get stuck. Are you saying that I shouldn't play because (I colect EL/KI) my BPR team is mostly EL or KI?
I'm sorry but most people, even those that play for fun, play to win. The only definition of fun is that the highly competitive armies are not played. I don't have an Amazon Drac but I would love one because I collect Dracs and it is the only female one (at this point). I would play her, but then most would probably call it cheese. I find that sad.
I think the biggest problem with cheese is that it stops other figures being useful, not that it can't be beaten, and that I can understand. But we should all be able to play what is in our collection without getting attacked for playing cheese.
I am not going to read 3 pages of posts so I am simply going to say this:
Play where you want, what you want, when you want.If they don't have fun but you do,tough monkey for them,I hope they have a better time next time.
I play to have fun, but of course, it's a lot more fun when you win. I make it a point to field figures I LIKE, though, and not just figs to make winning a certainty. This ultimately leads to infrequent wins hehehe.
But what if a person enjoys watching the defeat of another?
Or what if a person has fun when they win?
Or what if they need the figure so bad so they can finish thier collection?
You see, there are many ways to look at this, and I say mine is best;)
I tell you what, when someone plays a theme army and I defeat it I feel okay about winning. But, when someone plays a tourney quality army and I win I feel amazing! I would also rather lose to a tourney army and learn something than win to a scrub theme army.
