I want a good look at all the Uprising figures before I decide
on buying any boosters at all, let alone a full case.
My greatest concern, is that the dual factioned unique Hero's
could be too over costed to be usefull in Rebellion/Conquest
gameplay.
Very few people play MK Dungeons in my area.
Some of the non's previewed look promising. I may end up
purchasing select figures off Ebay or through singles dealers,
after the initial prices level out.
I'm more interested in the new SA's coming out in the future
Dragonsgate set. I feel new SA's will add a large amount
of play value to the MK game system.
I paid for my preorder tonight at my venue. I paid a little over $200. Many of us that pay over $200 are buying them locally. That means a few things. First it means supporting the local venue that I play at. I warlord there, and I play there. I want it to be there for a long time. The $30 extra over the best online deal is not that big a deal to keep my local venue going. Equally important to me is that i get my case on midnight the day it comes out. I don't have to wait at all. That is also worth a little extra money for me. I have purchased a case of sinister, minions, and now uprising. I have been playing since months before lancers came out. I will continue to play after the WK stops producing new sets (may that be a long, long time off). My observance is that the players are all too focused on winning no matter what. The joy of playing to try new things (while also trying to win and being a good sport) is leaving the game. I don't know how to bring it back, but I do find myself playing more games for fun now than for competition. My players have more fun when they play if they are trying new things instead of playing the more common armies that are found elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, they play to win, and the armies they come up with are able to stand well agaisnt AD, bakus, etc, but they are different. I also have started giving fellowship to the person with he most original army, which has brought some very interesting armies to the tournaments. (they also need to be good sports and make the atmosphere of the tourney an enjoyable one) I think that it is less the game changing and more the attitude of the players that is changing. The pieces are gettting some power creep, but it is up to the players to keep the game fun. I would rather have fun, compete hard and lose than to have no fun and win. just dos centavos from a veteran of the game. continue finding out who else is getting a case now.
Im certainly not going to buy a case this time around. There are definatly a few figs Ill pick up from ebay or something but the sets latly have been dissapointing on the whole and way too expensive.
HIgh demand figs will definitely be difficult to come by... not getting a case... hoping after the hype settles down and the metagame solidifies against the slew of new figure... the prices go down...
I am a Collector, so I will pick up even a few of the most useless pieces just to complete my set. Therefore, it is a heck of a lot cheaper to buy a case.
I have a case preordered. I paid $185 including shipping. That's about $3.85 a booster. Buying a case usually gets me most of the set, a bunch of figures for my son, plenty of extras for trade and a family event opening the boosters. With sales tax, I could buy about 27 boosters at retail price for that same $185.
I've been buying cases since Lancers and I've had pretty good luck that way.
I still spot buy boosters and singles at my local venues. I usually buy the large figures and multidials at my venue. The couple of bucks that I'd save online isn't worth it.
I won't be buying a case, but I will probably be buying 15-20 boosters over time.
The set may not have uber figures (besides the *** Succubus), but it does have the kind of figures that give you that deep visceral feeling of rightness that Yandros described. You may not be able to run every figure in your standard tournament and have an snowball's chance in hell of winning, but sheesh, does no one play casual anymore? Or do you guys insist on running your "uber" armies in casual as well? I don't know about you, but if I sat down to a game a casual play with my buddy and he whipped out an Amazon Draconum, I'd slap him across the face. :D
Casual can be so entertaining if you give it a try... and heck, you might even try out that weak Orc Blaster...
fun games are more fun to me than ever! I love to compete, but lately I've been feeling like playing some not great armies that would never survive a serious tourney environment. I know it'll be bad but I want to use a Necro army for my next 2000 point single-faction Conquest game. I know it'll get spanked, but I just want to see tons and tons of zombies, with Vladd and Uhlrick flying around! and now, I'll add Darq!! see, fun games are fun!
I like the figures personally. I don't think any KI fan can sit this set out. Not sure any Orc guys would either looking at some of the figs they are getting as well.
I have pre-ordered a case. Of course, I paid about $30 for it, because I won store credit at the Unofficial Northwest Mage Knight Championship.
But I would've bought a case anyway. It's like it was in High School. I loved The Cure. It didn't matter what their next album was, I was there at the record store the day it released with money. Period. It only makes sense to do it a case at a time - it's cheaper than buying and buying boosters at full price. I'll buy a case of the next release, too.
