It's missing two heads and sporting a few too many horns to be a proper Beast from the Book of Revelation, which would have been quite appropriate given the presence of the Horsemen in the storyline.
Giving this thing five heads (of different shapes and colors, no less) is just *begging* for unflattering comparisons to D&D's Tiamat.
<wryly> Modern-day worshippers of Marduk will, of course, draw their own conclusions. . .

in shorter terms if you dont get 1 tough cookies
Another young customer unable to attend, ppl at Wk's are you seeing a pattern yet?
All the supposed "younger audience" that has posted here has also said they could not afford the item, even at cost. Maybe the problem you people are having is not with the afterseller market but with the original cost of the item, which when compared to the only 2 gigantic figures so far ($20 a pop) may seem about 5 percent out of the ordinary, but not too far overcosted (estimating at Galactus price).
As far as the cost of WK figures, if you compare their figures to any of the other Miniature line games, they are comparable to all except maybe the D&D line( and they are raising their prices each expansion also). I myself play Warcaster, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Confrontation, and many many others and I will stand behind Wk. Anyone who has played the other games out there will admit, Rhino's and Whirlwinds, Warcaster battle packs, Confrontation single are all average to above the cost of WK figures.
If you follow the current poll of the packaging of Sorcery and Mutant Mayhem, you will notice the majority of the people DO NOT favor the inclusion of LE's and such in the current booster boxes, and WK may be rethinking their idea, so your stance that the Apocolypse Dragon runs contrary to their current thinking is wrong. The majority of the dropoff in sales currently is caused by players not attending the weekly game nights in order to win prize support. The lack of people attending weekly to games, will cause the death of the game. Those are the people you game with who each week "for fun" buy a box in order to try for a figure, along the same lines as buying a lotto ticket. To try to extend to a market that doesnt buy product will be more of a death to the company. Even if a player like this does buy a $70 excluzive figure, that usually figures out to no sales for the next 8 weeks at the store level.
And as for alienating the %80 of gamers who dont like it, I play many games that have been shunned, with fewer players, but I would have to say that the players that are left are the cream risen to the top.

so you'd rather play against 2 or 3 super players in a dead game than hundreds at varying levels in an active game? Sounds like good marketing to me... frankly I find that insulting, not so much to myself, but to the "average" realmer out there, seems self-centered.
Sorry zephon_s774 I guess those outside the US are not "the cream risen to the top"...
Just a quick word here as a reminder to keep things civil. Disagreements and the ensuing discussions are just fine and encouraged as it allows everyone to delve deeper into the issue. But, lets make sure this thread does not degenerate into personal attacks and character assassinations.
Has everyone been stuck in a Star Trek marathon? (An interrsting parallel universe where the basic rules of economics are only applied at the writers whim)
I am sorry that many folks can not attend the con and also con not afford to buy it on the secondary market. That is life. Get over it. Get haricut and real job, then you can.
First off, I would like to say that I was offended by Noface's comments but I think that he has been civil in most of his posts towards me. I appreciate the Moderator stepping in also.
But dont lump what I said in to include all realmers. Reread my post, breath once, and then reply. I said to those gamers who "shunned" a game, due to poor support, bad attitude, or whatever. I don't think you wish to say that you are speaking for all the realmers.
That said, I stick with my opinion, will not post on it again, and wish to reiterate that I insulted noone, was only taken out of context by noface.
d_gibbings: I'm sure there are a lot of people who have a "haircut and real job" who don't have a convention nearby, such as people over seas. They should think nothing about spending hundreds, thousands of dollars in air fare, hotel, etc. to fly out to a convention just so they can stand in line to pick up a dragon? I don't think so.
Never said that the non-US world should put a significant portion of their livelihood into getting a lovely pile of plastic (even as big a pile as it is) You could get it on the secondary market at a much better price, in any case. I can see their position in being a little unhappy at the US only aspect. However other games go the other way so the universe can be somewhat in balance.
However, there are other non non-US folks who seem to want things handed to them because they are out of their reach. I find that rather disappointing.
now that i've read up to the end from my last post in this insane topic...
we can see that Wizkids thinks that this will boost con attendence, but didn't relize that this will tick off players who can't go to the cons, which this includes many younger players(me included), most countries that don't hold cons, and people to poor (or lacking internet access) to get one off the secondary market.
also as i continue raving, it's being compared to a D&D dragon, which it is not, they are two different worlds. A Legendary dragons from a real-world mythology, which it isn't it a mage knight dragon.
and lastly that people have started to attack one another "civilly" over matters that don't really belong in this thread. this thread was started as a place to complain about wizkids changing their minds agian about how le's should be distributed...
all in all, we can say, Wizkids make up your mind, and please try not to alienate anymore people out of the game. (i've having a hard enough time trying to find people to replace them)
(Mygroup: nice milk comparisine, it was taken the wrong way, but i do know what you mean, my venue had some real crazy-people for a while, they gone now.)
It will still appeal to D&D fans, and i dont mean D&D minis fans, put PnP players, even D&D 3rd edition PnP is pretty much designed with using figures in mind.
All right guys, let me take you a bit for a piece of MK history...
Do you guys have any idea where Mage Knight was in 2001 (or was it 2002? memory gets cloudy)? Let me tellyou waht was MK in 2001. It was basically a convention exclusive game. See, the first time the public EVER played MK, it was at gencon with a bunch of Rebellion LE's (which incidently, were never released again in events, they gave uniques at tournaments for pete's sake!). So in otehr words, Mage Knight was strictly a Convention exclusive game.
Now the point I'm trying ot make here is that even thought WK only had convention exclusives at that point in time, it's exactly what allowed the game to become so popular : They had stuff at the convention. Now, wether you like it or not, EVERY self-respecting gaming company will have some sort of convention-exclusive fig/card at major cons, simply because it helps selling the game. By doing that, it will also introduce new players to the game, thus actually HELPING the game.
Now if you think WK's just spitting on you by making this dragon a con exclusive, dudes, let me tell you this you guys have issues. See, not everything in the world revolves around you, and just because you can't get it doesn't mean the world is in league against you. In fact, let me tell you this little secret about life, generally speaking, it sucks. Yeah it really blows, I mean I can't have everything that I want, I can't win all the time, and it's the SAME FOR YOU.
On the same line of thought, consider this: just because somehting exists doesn't mean you're meant to have it. Sure, you might end up being able to, but taht will actually mean 1 thing: SACRIFICES. See, I'm 22, I only work during summer at nearly miminum wage. Yet, despite that fact, I've managed to get to GEncon twice in the last 3 years. You know what? It costed me an arm, and a leg, but when the dust settled, I was glad I did it anyway, even thoguht I ended up broke by the month of march. This year, I didn't go to gencon, missed all the buddies form the Realms, the cool tournaments, the cool con exclusives, but you won't see me #####ing about it. See, to quote a "recent" popular movie : The problem is choice.
Now if you really want that dragon so badly, why don't you make your choices accordingly? Just find a job, save some $, and get it off ebay like everyone who can't just go to a con. (note that you need to apply all 3 to do it, just having a job is worthless if you just burn your pays in cigarettes, or whatever.)
I guess what I'm trying to say here can be summed up in those 2 simple words : GROW UP.
