I second that, I was there and I think you did a great job under the circumstances you were in Tim. How you manage to be able to write what you do as the match goes on I'll never know.
If I'd realised you were running back and forth inbetween rounds, i'd have volunteered to do the running, not as if my record was great anyway :) .
Originally posted by TimsWheelbarrow Ok, just got back from GenCon, and I thought I'd better explain a little bit about the coverage. I acknowledge that the way the updates went up was a proper pain. Believe me when I say that I lost more sleep over this than anyone involved in the $10k, with the possible exception of the metagame editing staff in the US who were having to get up at around 3am on a weekend to do their jobs.
The problem essentially arose from the fact that the whole event was taking place at a holiday camp which was built with people having fun on holiday in mind more than doing quick coverage. Every couple of rounds I would have to run from the events hall to an internet cafe to upload more content, and at 7pm, this one possible connection to the internet closed each day. This meant that the last couple of rounds of day one had to go up later than the rest. Trust me when I say that nobody was happy about this situation, but there was nothing that could be done.
I apologise to anyone that was left hanging when they expected more coverage. I additionally apologise for the fact that there was slightly less coverage than there could have been - this was a necessity created by my having to dash back and forth during rounds rather than being able to report constantly. As to the one reporter thing - it is not uncommon for $10k events to have a single reporter covering them. It is not as easy as you might think to report on matches as they happen (and believe it or not, every feature match I write is written longhand while matches are going on, no writing up afterwards), and finding enough reporters in a given area and flying them out in bulk is not always possible or appropriate for every $10k. We do all do our best for you guys though.
See people in LA
Tim
Jeez, Tim, cmon. A real reporter could create an internet connection out of thin air and upload content. Where are your skillz??
In game 2 of the final, Shape (Jetpack equipped, 3/3) attacks Beast with a discarded Airskimmer. Beast uses Heroes in Reserve to stun him then Dane Whitman attacks back with a Call Down the Lightning to the face. I am just curious, why not put them both in the back, reinforce and go to the next turn? Is this really the last chance in the game to get breakthrough? Isn't Call Down the Lightning pretty good when you're using it to avoid a stun? Did Karl have no 3-drop in hand?
I am not trying to pick apart supposed play errors, I'm probably just missing something here but I don't understand why these twists were played so early. The golden rule of Vs. is don't throw pumps for breakthrough (unless you don't think you'll get another chance to do so and they won't be needed to attack up the curve; neither of which seems to apply, and the Heroes would be a lot better later on with more reservists to reveal.)
I would Geuss cause he was trying to get as much dam in as early as possible to cause the SqS deck is much faster than his. he might Not have enough make it to turn 6 and they take stunbacks alot with SqS , Other than that or the replaceing looking for a 3 drop I have no Idea.
That's exactly what it is, CDTL replaced a card I knew I wasn't going to use in this game, Hercules, with one that I was. And it's never too early to cause as much damage as possible against another speed deck :)

Just because a deck is very similar to another deck does not mean that one is based on the other. It is entirely possible for two teams working in isolation to create two near identical decks. It all comes down to which is "made famous" first. An infinate amount of monkeys typing on typewriters for an infinate amount of time and all that jazz...

But the one that t8s first gets the respect. I also notice that the build is something like 8 cards different than the Orlando build, notably replacing two of the weakest cards with better ones.

I guess I can ask Hans at the PC but the build was off by just a few cards.
I have my own SquashSue deck but it didn't run Joystick/Thunderjets which is pretty unique to Flying Circus (and exactly 2 Other-Earths).
And regardless if it was their own build or not, Tim should have still mentioned it as it did Top 8 at the last $10k (by the way, Tim posted on the other thread that it may have been the hypnotic nature of Hans hair that caused his relapse).

Truth. I was running TitanAvengers (a deck I now realize sucks) since the day Avengers came out and I was running Reservist since long before MJ won the $10K, yet everyone still says I netdeck :\
@Karl: How does your deck deal with weenie swarms, especially decks like TNB? My deck is very similar to yours but I got veritably raped by a TNB (ok, maybe not raped...it was 0 to -4 with him having a ready Sabretooth to my nothing) at Hobby League yesterday in Round 1 of Top 8. Also, why no alternate 5? And with the lack of PTs in your deck, why no EMH? I understand in normal circumstances it sucks the nuts, but with a 13-card PT base an EMH may be in order for a nice finisher.

Natasha and Carol Danvers both help maintain board control, and the number of one drops also helps both for stunning them down and Rick for reinforcement if really necessary,
No alternate 5 because there is no alternate 5 drop reservist Avenger. Every single card in the deck is 100% effective from the resource row for Mansion, CDTL, HiR, Dane and She-Hulk. Sounds simple but I never replace into something I don't want.
Tried EMH and found it too restrictive but it is not a bad choice. My teammate Simon's deck played it in place of SB and he went 6-4. This was pretty fantastic for him as he is not a very experienced player and we are really proud of him.
I had horrific draws against Karl, 11 out of 12 red cards in game one, with the blue being Press the attack...
No Wild/Bat/Alfred for 4 turns in the second game.
I would have showed cards for the comedy of it, but I was pretty focused on a.) trying to win and b.) not being a whiner if I lost ;) ;) ;)
Avengers is my easiest matchup thanks to zero disruption bar Hawkeye. I was dreading a SS semi but the Gods of VS made it irrelevant who I was facing, my deck lost without any help from my friendly opponent.
Dunno why everyone is giving Tim props for middle-aged man comments... my gag brutally stolen for his glory! :)
Although I must admit to being a secret Willougby Fanboy.
P.S. Huge grins to Karl for winning and being so cool.
Oh... I used to call the deck 'Machine Gun' when it only had Roy to shoot, but since he got a partner in Big Doctor Light, its now 'Both Guns Blazing'.
