Batman Begins is in continuity with the other Batman films. That's why the Joker card appears at the end of the movie, because Tim Burtan's Batman (which was good) comes next.
Since they made it a prequel, it'll be easier to break out of "continuity," but the movie was made in continuity with the 4 Batman movies.
Begins is not in continuity with the others, here's a couple reasons why:
1) In Begins, Joe Chill killed his parents, not 'Jack' aka Joker as was the case in Burton's
2) Plot of the next Batman film has already been outlined with villians Joker and Penguin (who both had origins and deaths in the same movies they were introduced, respectively)
I'm sure there are others, but I'm tired and those are the only ones that come to mind right away.
Like I said, it's entirely possible that a sequal will seperate the film. And there are a few changes (which isn't surprise, since movies don't have "continuity" like comics try to, and fail at quite regularly).
As of the release of the movie, it was defined as a prequel, and in line with the other movies.
A sequel could redefine that. But until I see a link, I can't take your word for it.
ADD: Everything I've read has said that any production on Batman Begins 2 is extremely early, and that it's too early for rumors even.
ADD2: It would be best if Batman was a restart. Then Superman returns could be changed to be a restart as well.
It was never defined as a prequel that was in-line with the other movies. I'd love to see a link that says that.
Furthermore, David Goyer (the screen writer) and Christopher Nolan (the director) have both stated that this is a relaunch of the franchise.
Secondly, the casting rumors are going out that they are searching for someone to play the Joker in the next movie. Though the work on Batman Begins 2 is extremely early, the reason those casting rumors are out there is because that's what the production house is looking for...
Go to Batman-on-film.com it will explain everything (and there is your link btw).
This movie was never intended to be a prequel to the original movies...
It may be a prequel in the sense that it is "the earliest Batman story told", but it was never supposed to be in continuity with the rest of the movies ;)
I would cite Chris Nolan's interviews/remarks in "Entertainment Weekly" to back Ryan's posts but something tells me GoodGuy is in one of those moods where it would be pointless. :)
As for "Superman Returns" - I loved it. I admit, some of the "filler" info out there - like Marv Wolfman's novel adaptation and the Superman Returns "prequel" comics - help answer a few questions (especially with Lex) but even without them I think I would've left the theater feeling just as giddy.
since superman erased lois's memory of them two getting it on in superman 2, i can't wait till she files charges that superman date raped her.
james marsden was awesome! his acting job here proved to me that he could be a good preacher, if that movie ever gets out of pre-production hell.
ever since the usual suspects, i have had a soft spot for anything with singer and spacey, and this movie had both! and for the most part i was pleased, but by no means is superman returns a classis for the ages, or even a top 5 hero movie ever, but it was a workable. it had the feel and look of the old movies, it showed superman as the outsider looking in, and i loved the dynamic of both clark and richard, being both good men, yet advesaries over a women, that is hard without making one person look like the bad guy, or the woman an adulterer.
i hated, hated, hated, hated, hated, hated this version of lois! hell terri hatcher was a better lois! she was too young, too girly, too glammed up to be the street smart, army brat, tough as nails, go get'em investigative reporter.
and whoever said she was better kirsten dunst.. look out, cuz i am sending a latverian assasin to your house next week.
one thing i thought was too cliche'ed was the fake out of superman is dead, for a breif second i thought they would do the actual superman is dead storyline, ( stick him in a crypt, away from sunlight, so he can't heal, yadda, yadda, yadda...) but no, we all knew he would get better, we just had to endure 15 extra minutes of mind-numby boredom until he rises from the grave 3 days after his descent from heaven, arms out stretched.
so far, pirates 2 looks like it will be the best action movie of the summer, and i can't wait!
