It's just a video game. I don't understand why people are talking about it like it's an on-line game. So you can play against people on-line, that doesn't mean you play the actual game on-line. If they were going to have an on-line game, I doubt they would sell them for portables or pc instead of just releasing it on-line. It does seem cool, even as a DC fan I'm still really excited about this game. However, it's just a video game.
The PC version is more of an online game. As far as I can tell, it's a free download and you pay for cards.
And Megatron78, I'm pretty sure the single player cards are specifically for "LAN and ad-hoc mode", NOT for online play.
Knowing how video game marketing works, they're being especially careful about their words, and LAN and Ad-hoc modes are not the same as online tournaments.
To spell it out for those who aren't as video game savy:
- DS version: Single player game; "fun" games with local wireless
- PC version: Free download; no single player; pay for cards; online play
- PSP version: Single player game; "fun" games with local wireless and unlocked cards; still pay for online cards; online play
I might be wrong on whether or not the PC version has single player, but I doubt it if it's a free download.
Basically, you have the single player and LAN stuff, which is more like a video game as Pika says, and then you have the Online stuff which is more like MODO, but really should be thought of as seperate from the single player and LAN stuff.
*Disclaimer* I'm not in any way affiliated with Konami or UDE, so I'm only getting this from info on the website and web. It could be wildly inaccurate.

Your assumptions make good sense to me...and oddly enough, the PSP version seems to be the most robust???
In that regard, I hope they make a PC Version for retail sale that comes with all the extra stuff (I could use another Armaggedon, and EA to boot!). The single player mode sounds like fun, for what it is. :ermm:
I just remember reading an article a while back. It said all the games are alike in that they are single player games. It said PC and PSP can play on-line, while DS uses Nintendo Wi-fi. If I remember correctly, it rated the PSP version as the worst and the DS as almost as good as PC version.
I know for certain that the DS version doesn't interface with the website.
Don't know for certain how much that translates to online play yes or no.
Game reviewers likely don't play the card game or MODO, so are probably going by different criteria than we would. (maybe the single player on the DS is really good, so they give it a good rating, and it doesn't lose anything for not having online non-LAN play, because reviewers aren't going to dock it for lacking a game mode. PSP version loses out for not having a touch interface.)

No, they said they could barely see anything on the PSP screen. Apparently, it's way too small and everything had to be squeezed onto it making gameplay highly difficult and eye-straining.
Ah yeah, that too. I don't have a PSP, thankfully.
*insert obligatory "Sony sucks" flames here*
TBH, I heard they're shutting down the Playstation project. Apparently they lost too much money. I also hear a rumour that they did the same with X-Box. I'm not sure if these are true, so don't quote me on them.:speechles
VODO = Olympic VS online...
USA vs Europe vs Asia vs South America...
gotta love the possibilities considering we keep forgetting that we have a stronger OPs here in the US. This (VODO) can only help the game along. It only stands to help those players who can't afford to make the drive to a distant pro tourney. Hopefully, we will be able to redeem whatever points would be required to play in an online tourney by participating in a local Hobby League or buying so many packs or such. Those points could be used to pay registration fees.
I do hear you though because limited expenses and lack of a DC release are always valid concerns.
Meh... I think You should should be able to use the online points from booster backs to buy online packs. I mean, digital packs cost little to create/maintain, and players won't call it a money grab, because people love buying packs.
