I think I figured out who the killer is, and which prima donna hero (or heroine) is the next intended victim, but I could have them mixed up. PM you to see if I'm on the right track, Onyxweapon?
if you line up the cards in cost order 1,2,3,4,5
you'll notice the version text on the cards - ironman reads: can you save him in time? the 2,3,4 spell FLAVOR and on superman it reads: look to the south.
The text on the FIRST card in this sequence is the key to who's name we're searching for. In this case, the victim. So, if you take the atk value of each card in this order and count letters into the cards effect text it will spell "T H I N G". Hence Thing is the next intended victim. Doing any other combination while the cards are in this order will only give gibberish.
Now arranging the cards so that the common limerick is in order the new arrangement (by drop) is: 5,4,1,2,3
the new arrangement of the version text is relatively unhelpful here, but superman (the first card in the sequence) reads: look to the south.
Now, at the bottom of the card, you may notive the card code numbers do not match the characters name or original card text. If you take the incorrect code number and count letters into the plavor text poem, this order will spell: P R I M E.
Since we can deduce Thing is the next victim, and since Optimus has no VS card, Superboy Prime must be the killer.
Sound complicated?
here was Lex Luthor Jr's answer. 3 hours after the challenge went up.
"Placing the victims in order by drop, and counting letters in the play text using ATK value, the letters spell out T H I N G.
Placing the victims in order by flavor text (as pointed out in the versions), and counting letters in the flavor text using the card code, the letters spell out
P R I M E."
.....
...talk about sending it out of the park. Congrats to all who solved it and even more to those who didn't give up trying to figure it out.
in 3 weeks i'll have a newer, better, deadlier challenge!
I didn't put figure it out....however I had both the orders for the answers correct sadly....Just no time to play the number game. I was going to start with letter substitution for the costs though....who knows if I would have got it.
i'll say yes, but costs internationally can get pricy the heavier the package is, So if we have an international winner i'd have to work out a mutually agreeable prize (possibly a higher value single instead of packs) to offset shipping costs. (since most quotes i had to send overseas cost more than the 12 packs did!)
