Domestically we're currently doing OK it seems. But this day and age, it only takes ONE strike and we're out. Why has the Bush Administration been inviting more pitchers to the mound with a war that has nothing to do with terrorism? With the world as crazy as it is, is it a smart thing to go picking fights right now? Does it make you feel safer?
I think both you and spud see my post as supporting Bush... it's not... it's supporting my country and current administration. It's non-partisan in the probably the most non-partisan way it can be... despite the current housing/credit/banking/gas problems... I don't worry as much when I get on a plane, regardless of who the president is.
It's the same way the people who support VS feel... they may not like what UDE is doing... but they love the game.
I'm sure everyone in counter intelligence, Homeland Security and military service appreciate the connotation that what they do is being compared to a rock.

Sorry... no cool quotes here.
So here's where we differ (I think):
You feel we are currently safer. I feel we are currently lucky.
I will feel safe when America has fewer enemies. The current administration has gone out of its way to piss off the world under the guise of "fighting terror". Having more enemies in this world does not make me feel safe.
I did not take your comment as "pro-Bush". I did take your comment as "not thoroughly thought out". Cuz, when you think about it, isn't safety about "there are no bullies here to beat me up" as opposed to "Phew! I dodged all the bullies today! Let's see if I can do it again tomorrow..."
Rumor has it that China is proposing to purchase Morgan Stanley. This worries me more than whether some 14 year old kids sitting behind a computer screen is still thinking about what Stu is up to.

I think there is more of a difference.
Do you actually believe if we stopped all of our "disguised" wars... we would have fewer enemies? There weren't too many wars we were fighting when 9/11 hit.
Even if we never invaded Afghanistan or Iraq... and pulled all our support from Israel... do you honestly think the extremists would say:
"Oh... those guys are cool... they're not the Great Satan... let's not terrorize them anymore."
That's not to say Bush hasn't pissed them off more... but I don't think America will ever stop having enemies.
Thread rerail segue:
Just because stu left for a while... do you think that will make the haters hate him less?
Oh... and I got a quote now:
"Don't hate the playa... hate the game!" - BookerT
I take your point that we've always had (and probably always will have) enemies. But our current path has added fuel to the fire. Yet you feel safer. I don't understand why.
Thread rerail segue:
I noticed at least two "haters" who rarely post any more came running to this thread once it got started. I think that's kinda funny.

Nah, we just had a continued, unwanted military presence in the "Holy Land" of Saudi Arabia. You know, cause a large majority of the hijackers WEREN'T Saudi's.... Oh wait...

Yes. Maybe not too many "wars" were being fought... but how many oil pipelines were in the works? I can point you to at least one in Afghanistan.

Yes and yes. To "one-up" you here, we'd make even more friends "over there" if we pulled our bases and troops out of the Muslim holy areas such as Mecca and Medina.

That's right... they hate us "because we're free". Chuckle, snort, gaffaw.
