Second off, can you name a single person on here who constantly complains? You seem to complain about the complainers a whole hell of a lot so you should know.
It's a way of venting. We've seen the game go from a million dollar pro circuit to three major tournaments in a six months with two sets a year to no DC being in the game. And at the first hint that anybody wants some answers about what might show up in the future, you get up in arms about it.
This is a forum about the game. We're aloud to discuss whatever we want about the game, good AND bad. No matter how much you dislike it, there are some people who just want answers. Nobody is badmouthing the game, we just want a small glimmer of hope that:
a) There will be more sets
b) There will be more tournaments and
c) DC will be back but if this isn't the case, we just want them to be honest with us.
But do I expect an announcement? Judging from how much UD corporate wants the game to fail, I certainly don't.
I actually feel bad for TBS though. I've got a feeling that he really wants to talk to us about this stuff....good, bad, whatever, but his hands are tied.
Is that going to keep me from saying that UDE is a terrible company and that they've made more mistakes with game than I can count?
All I want to know is if there is going to be another set. I don't care when, who's in it, etc. etc.
I just wanna know. And YES I deserve to know. What's more important, if a new player jumped aboard rightnow and bought a box or 2, shouldnt they deserve to know whether they should go and buy MUL?
"Mom I really need 4 copies of this card Moblize"
It's been over a week, the retailers have ordered and re-ordered. The hardcores have bought their cases. At this point the bulk of the product has moved.
So...since the customer's always right (regardless of what the manager of Casual Male says)...i want to know about the NEXT Marvel set.
Ask around, there's product sitting...and it's sitting because of the incertainty of the future. Schedule us a set, and we'll buy more...it's pretty simple.

See, that's a problem. In order to get another set we have to be sure this one sells out. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping for the best.

That's what I am concerned about. From what I see on all the websites that sell VS boxes, most MEV boxes are still around $60 and still available. I mean, that's great that we actually have product this time, but does that mean it did not sell as well as MUN, MVL, and DCL? Or did they simply print more this time around? I am glad I can still buy some MEV for $60 a box, but that either means they printed out more (probably so it doesn't sell out, maybe corporate did this on purpose?), or the demand isn't that great. But, I know that many people bought more of MEV than they did MUN. So the former is more likely.
Regardless of UDE support I will still hold VS events and provide prizes, just like I do right now. We had a Wii tourney back in October and had Rob Rietze and Dan Clark show up. And this is unsanctioned, with no hobby league prizes, besides what I provide or the store provides. And we have one of the larger playgroups in the country here in Mount Pleasant.

It's a reality though. If the game looks dead, people are less likely to invest in it.
And right now, the game looks dead. I'm not saying it is. But if it were, this is what it would look like.
The website hasn't been updated in months! One of the two licenses is gone. No new sets are scheduled and there's no communication from Upper Deck at all.
I think buying extra in the hope of keeping the game alive at this point would be a bad idea. Buy as much as you would feel comfortable buying if this were in fact the last set. There's no indication that it's not.
Well I'm an attention ##### teethe nasher so I will respond to draw further attention to myself -(chika cha)-
If we had no teethe nashers we would likely still all be living in caves content with our roaming lot and going about our berry picking way, which some folks would likely tell you is not bad, but its very small picture, and the day the sun burns out of space, or this planet will no longer support our life, it will have been teethe nashers who have formed a plan to carry the human disease to the stars, as a race we must struggle to survive, it is our only worthwhile goal because without it everything else (at least for us) is moot. We must strive, we must never be satisfied, we must always seek to improve our lot and that of those around us, we must burn forever hot with our passions, vent our angers, and build from our rage. Perhaps some of us will sleep satisfied in our graves.
I’ve paid my price for admission, I came to see the show, what do you mean you have no clowns tonight, isn’t this a circus.
Tell me it’s a fair and I can lower my expectation, but I’ve bought all the popcorn I can eat, and I just want to know if I can go home to relish my .10c prizes I won with just a dollar or two, or if there is still one more firework to flare, I’ll wait and watch, but please don’t make me stand around for nothing.
The truth is UDE must weigh whether short term sales of a discontinued product overshadow the potential for lost sales on future products based upon a perceived injustice by increasingly discerning consumers.
With a limited number of TCG players, and potential TCG players available to competing companies within the business, it must be considered what the cost of disenfranchising even a small fragment of that market is.
When choosing your next game how will the announcement (or lack there of) by UDE regarding the future of Vs. impact your future purchasing decisions?
It's a reality though. If the game looks dead, people are less likely to invest in it.
Long time reader, first time poster.
This quote is so full of truth its not even funny. As a long-term veteran of the dead game industry, I am sooooo jaded about the future of any game. Roster of games I have played where the proverbial rug has been pulled out from underneath me after the release of a set (these are the ones I was most vested in - its happened on so many others its not funny)?
Star Wars CCG
Raw Deal
Lord of the Rings
Dreamblade
FMA
So whats the short of all this? What similarities can be drawn to this lack of information to other games?
Well, you could compare it to SWCCG where the last few sets were must haves with cards so powerful that either you bought them to stay competitive or you were left behind.
You could compare it to Dreamblade who's last set was released after they pulled all their cash events and told players that either the set sold through or else they were cancelling the game...or rather not producing it any more until such time as the market proved it could be profitable again.
You could compare it to Raw Deal who's last sets were released with some fanfare after a complete retooling of the game, card types, and card layout, with awesome league and tournament support full of exclusive cards that you couldn't get elsewhere except through tournament play, only for everyone to go mute for a months after the final release, with the only announcement being the game was cancelled after a long run.
There are a lot of similarities between what has happened elsewhere and what is happening here. Lack of website updates, no announced next set by the release of this set or shortly there after, no discussion of long-term tournament structure, reduced point cost on exclusive cards on the point store. Due to these similarities, people who have been playing other games long term are afraid we are seeing the signs of a game that is in its final sets. Of course, it doesn't help that the economy is in a rut at the moment and UDE laid off 60 employees recently. It also doesn't help that UDE is pulling a move reminiscent of another gaming company and trying to move old WoW product by offering exclusive promos for purchasing old WoW product at Brick and Mortar store fronts.
In short, you have a lot of people on the forums who are very passionate about this game. And these passionate people want answers about a game they love playing. When they don't get these answers in the time frame they feel is appropriate, they begin to worry about what they have seen or heard about before. When they worry, they want assurance from the game company that their fears are all for naught, and that the game they love to play will still be there. You see how this becomes a very vicious, unending cycle.
Here's the unfortunate part. No amount of pining or taunting will get UDE to release information pre-maturely. So I guess my suggestion here is simple...enjoy the game while you can, don't get caught up in the Internet arguments with fellow players, and put that energy to good use. As SWCCG and STCCG have shown, just because a game stops printing does not mean the game itself no longer supported. If the feeling is that the end is near, use that energy to start looking into how you can start a player supported system for the game to continue supporting the game after its no longer printed. Its never too early to put a plan into place.
to mc9457, what you wrote is exaclty what i have been saying since for as long as i can remember.
where is our year plan for 2009, or is this going to be like when the cash was pulled out. Where we had our list of demands at the end of 06, and what we got in 07 was a pullout of all money tournaments and other such things. So if thats the case look forward to oh Febuary/march area for the offfical , due to sales and other things VS is not longer a viable game, announment.
i want to be proven wrong by ude, but it doesnt look much like it.
now for virtual sets, DCU was the first and only virtual set i would say that should be started as the first Virtual set. the team that put it together did a fantastic job, in mechanics and flavor. but honestly i dont know how long ill stick around for stuff like that.
From the desk of the President of Upper Deck Entertainment
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the rabidly loyal fans of UDE’s Vs. System TCG, and to apologize for not being able to communicate sooner about our plans for the future.
As you know these are difficult economic times, and we have been forced to make a number of tough choices regarding the future of Upper Deck Entertainment. I would like to be able to tell you at this time that the Vs. System will continue to be produced for as long as Upper Deck is in business, but at this time nothing can be said with surety. I had hoped more definite plans for the future of the product line could be specified, but at this time, we truly have nothing more to offer you than a solemn hope that you will continue to play and enjoy the game we have presented to you, to gather in hobby leagues around the globe, and to maintain one of the strongest player communities in the gaming world today.
Upper Deck Entertainment at this time is reviewing a number of options for the future of Vs. System including some exciting independent opportunities, but with nothing set in stone, I do not wish to oversell an uncertain future. As soon as we have more concrete information to offer we will communicate it to you our loyal fan base, and until then I hope you will be able to enjoy our latest set Marvel Evolutions hot off the presses.
Your tireless efforts in the support of Vs. System have not gone unnoticed.
Thank you,
Kariggi with another BS press release.
Pleasant non-committal, would this make you feel better or worse, would you feel satiated or insulted?
No we are not testing possible releases for general response before releasing the real one…or are we?
At this point, any acknowledgement of the fact that we are not-so-patiently waiting for news would be welcome. Even if it had to be a non-announcement. Even if it was just a post in the forums saying, "Hey guys, thanks for your patience... blah, blah, blah."
I understand why this can't be done. But the silence is deafening. It's sending a loud message. Maybe an inaccurate one. But the current state of things suggests to people that Vs. is dead. Not dying, but already dead.
Anything that suggests otherwise would be welcome.
Current purchases of MEX? Not much. The announcement of a new set would impact my purchases.
Future purchases of UDE products? Well, there will be no future purchases unless they announce a new set. But, I will buy more of any set if the next set is already announced. I will buy less of any set that appears to be the last set.
The exception would be a DC set. I would by more of a DC set no matter what to help support future DC sets.
Your opinion of the integrety of those representing the company? Honestly, I don't care about that.
Feelings of detatchment? Like I said, any announcement (even one that essentially said nothing) would be preferable to silence.
