Please note that we realize that the sole burden for gaming in Manhattan will shift to our shoulders if we decide to take up gaming there, and we need to understand the pressures and complications from such a task. However, I myself do remain optimistic.
Not quite... I'm not advocating for letting in non-superhero games.... just vs and maybe hero-clix... not too much pressure with just those, no? And you can cross-sell comics with the games...
Wow, I didn't realize people hated KG that much. I am personally willing to give them a last shot if its to save the game, but I do realize the necessity for HL to be in Central Manhattan as its the hub for everyone to come to. I live in Brooklyn, but say if The new HL spot was in the Bronx, I would not go there, as its simply too far for me.
That said, I really hope JHU Manhattan works out and will personally stop by to speak with someone there to show my solidarity.
I love VS and would be saddened if the NYC scene went the way of the DoDo bird.
man, that sucks, worse MW ever then. broken ipods? how does that even work. did they not come in their original cases? that would make it all the more obvious. didnt UDE do anything about this disaster? they probably have the right to like evict them or something. its a good thing the runners of my local hobby leagues are also friends :D well i hope you guys find a better place and a better time.

Andrew Yip did try to compensate. Those that went to MWNY, and emailed him received 3 packs of MUN express mailed along with a card that was from MEX or the Points store. So Bravo for that, but otherwise the weekend was a disaster (The People were cool though :D )
I was just saying that a brand extension (from superhero comics, superhero shirts, superhero toys to superhero cards) is much less risky than a business strategy change (from "Comics and Comic-Related Merchandise" to "Comics/Comic-Related Merchandise and Gaming").
Asking JHU to clear a couple of tables one night a week so that we can play versus is very different from asking them to redo their store layout to provide for people to play games at any time that they are open. They'd also (obviously) have to re-examine their checking of bags policy... how bad is the shoplifting?

Believe it or not, the first thing you mention is much, much more risky than implementing a similar system to the way we do it in Staten Island. If we only did Super-Hero related games, I guarantee you 100% this is what would happen;
A) Management would see that attendance (and money) is sparse for these events because these games are not the most popular games in the world.
B) Management would stop putting the tables out for the games.
C) I would look like an idiot (Which, granted, is not uncommon)
D) We could never start up any kind of gaming again in NYC because "We tried it once here and it didn't work."
The only way to make it work in NYC is to adapt a similar program to the one we have in SI- a once or twice a week hobby league that only lasts for a day, in which someone is hired to personally supervise the player and make sure tournaments go according to schedule. It would be very difficult (probably impossible) to make JHU a place with 24/7 gaming tables.
P.S. Shoplifting is not much of a problem in SI or NYC, but the gamers are totally different than comic people, as I'm sure you know.
Hmm...interesting...I am sad to hear that NG is closing. Not only for the game, but for the friends I have working there. As far as VS goes, VS has been tanking for a long time now. We have tried to keep it afloat as long as possible, but if JHU doesn't set up a HL in Herald Square area, I think we can pretty much say goodbye to VS in the NYC area. No one is willing to work with Kings and not too many people are willing to take the train ride. While NG was going through their renovations, me and a few friends met up at random places and tried to keep the game alive. The only thing that kept us meeting was the thought of NG opening again soon. This time, there would be no such hope and honestly I got tired of getting kicked out of public places. JH in Staten Island has always been a good place to play but 9 times out of 10 I am working on Sundays, not to mention the almost 3 hour trip for myself. It saddens me that this has happened, and I think this might be the nail in the coffin for me as far as VS goes.
